Beck Warns Again of Rounding Up Conservatives

Recently, Justice Scalia spoke to a law school class and said that he wouldn’t be surprised if the courts would accept internment camps again during a time of war as they did with the Japanese in WW2 because the courts are reluctant to get involved in such situations (he said he would oppose this and that the Supreme Court was wrong in the Korematsu case to uphold it). Glenn Beck, please fire up the outrage machine and go on a ridiculous rant about how conservatives will soon be locked up for being anti-abortion and doubting global warming.

“It was a group of people who said ‘we know we’re right,'” Beck said. “Global warming; sound familiar? We know we’re right and if you’re standing in the way, you’re standing in the way of Manifest Destiny. Sound familiar; Obamacare? We know we right and if you don’t, you’re standing in the way of progress. Sound familiar? Sound like abortion advocates? We know we right and if you don’t agree with us, there’s no place for you in this state. That’s why Scalia is saying it’s going to happen again.”

No, actually it’s not. It’s not even close, in fact.

So “I think you are wrong and will use my influence through voting and public statements to try and stop your ideas becoming law” = “There is no place for you in this society and I want you locked up”?

Did anyone else find it funny when they read this title that it came right after Ed posted something about wingnuts threatening violence?

I mean, yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some conservatives being rounded up in the near future.

  3. Trebuchet says

They’ve been going to round us up and put us in FEMA camps since GW Bush. Doesn’t seem to have happened.

Time to apply a little science.

Dalton’s law of partial pressure as applied to conservatives

If you have a few conservatives floating around in an atmosphere of rationality the conservative complains about kids playing video games and too many snow days. As the concentration increases paranoia increases and complaints are more and more about conspiracies. Once the Southern-Strategy ratio is hit conservatives become convinced that they are a persecuted majority and that they are rational.

The idea of putting conservatives into concentration camps should give us all pause as this would raise the concentration to the theoretical Palin-Jackson singularity. The Palin-Jackson singularity postulates all communication would be a jumble of talking points and that everything would be seen as a threat.

Ooooh! Harry Riley is bringing 10-15 million conservatives to D.C all gift wrapped! Who needs to round them up?

    [Cue dueling fantasies]

It goes back to at least the Clinton administration.

    “Doesn’t seem to have happened.”
No. Neither has the Apocalypse, but while you only have to be right once you can be wrong forever. Job security.

See, there’s this little advertised stage in the rollout of Obamacare. Stage 1 was the opening of the exchanges. Then came the deadline to sign up if you wanted coverage to start on January 1. Then there’s the deadline to avoid the tax penalty. Then there’s the final stage: the deadline to stop criticizing Obamacare, after which you and you family are rounded up an put in an internment camp. It’s right there in the law. I’m surprised it hadn’t gotten more press…

I am trying to imagine what ‘Tea Party Nation’ will declare war on the U.S. to initiate this rounding up of harmless patriotic American conservatives who share similarities with the violent sovereign nation of Tea Party. We know that that nation must be white, heavily male, well-armed, and elderly as well as conservative and paranoid. Perhaps that great savior of traditional values (intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, religious bigotry, autocracy, crony capitalism, and repressive violence against journalists and peaceful protesters), Putin’s Russia?

The bit about “there’s no place for you in this state” is from something NY Governor Andrew Cuomo unfortunately actually did say, about anti-abortion in particular. I forget the exact quote but it was stupid. Naturally GB et al are squeezing as much juice out of it as they can.

In January of last year, Mr Beck announced he intends to build Independence, USA (Glennbeckistan). Its a walled & gated paradise for rich libertarians. Perhaps he can get FEMA Camp funding for the initial construction phase.

  14. says

timgueguen, you don’t get it. The new Thomas Jefferson or Andrew Jackson is Barack Hussein Obama, and elderly white people are the new Indians or Mexi-Texians.

Has anyone suggested to him that when the Great People have retired to Beck’s Gulch, they should lock the gates and defend it against the hordes who will then discover how we are totally lost and rudderless without them, begging the Great Ones of the Gulch to return and lead us?

Why doesn’t someone put together Glenn’s Greatest Hits video, showing all the times he’s warned arkly of the imminent roundup of Real Murikans?

He really is the Harold Camping of the Heartland Homeschooler Holocaust.

    To the nearest integer.
(currently 10 [from 10.09176] really, really ideologically pure individuals. Although who’s in and who’s out is a little fuzzy at the moment. Knowing conservatives – ‘there can only be one !!!’)

Wingnuts display such cognitive dissonance when it comes to liberals. They regularly use eliminationist rhetoric regarding liberals while simultaneously fretting that liberals want to lock them up in concentration camps.

  19. David Smith says

It’s obvious that the left is seeking to replace an old intolerance with their new intolerance, an old tyranny with their new tyranny which makes them hypocrites and not liberal at all. Google the homosexual atheist Oxford professor warning of what’s occurring and how much he is against it.

All true liberals find plurality which respects the human rights under natural law and the liberties originally enjoined in the rule of law for opposing groups.

Taking control of government and passing legislation to severely persecute groups of people for refusing to facilitate your activities because they have moral and religious convictions against such activities or the other way around taking control of government and passing legislation to severely persecute groups of people who engage in activities not injuring others because they have no moral and religious convictions against their behaviors NEEDS TO STOP.

If you call yourself a liberal, and are part of this problem: then you are an intolerant UNliberal hypocrite plain and simple.

” Google the homosexual atheist Oxford professor warning of what’s occurring and how much he is against it.”
just any old homosexual atheist Oxford professor, or one person specifically? Has this person got a name?

“Taking control of government and passing legislation to severely persecute groups of people for refusing to facilitate your activities because they have moral and religious convictions against such activities…”
Really? Any actual examples of this? Any kind of evidence at all?
Or is it just empty moral panic because you can’t bully people into following your own ‘moral’ precepts?

David Smith, #27: Taking control of government….

Around here, that is more commonly called “winning elections.” And it’s kind of the central feature of democracy.

…an old tyranny with their new tyranny which makes them hypocrites and not liberal at all.

Well, you may call it “tyranny,” but making sure that everyone’s basic liberties and rights are respected is kind of the central feature of liberalism.

…because they have moral and religious convictions against such activities….</i.

I'm not aware of any religions that oppose taking pictures of gay people or the prohibits gay people from eating cake.

But according to some US conservative evangelicals, running a business in a decent society is against their religious convictions, so maybe that's what you are referring to. But then no one is forcing anyone to run a business that violates their religious convictions. They are free to choose another business to go into.

  22. Michael Heath says

    David Smith,

Whose rights should the government protect? The gay person seeking equal access to goods and services, or the business owner who wants to determine who he services and who he doesn’t, and doesn’t to people who happen to be gay?

Whose rights should the government protect? The gay employee, or the employer who doesn’t want gay people working for him/her?

Whose rights should the government protect? The public school teacher who doesn’t want gay students in his/her classroom? Or the gay student seeking equal access to a public education?
