Palin: Atheists ‘Threatening the American Way of Life’

Sarah Palin went on the 700 Club and told them that evil atheists are “threatening our American way of life” and are thus “dangerous and must be stopped.” You know what I think threatens the American way of life? Vapid political figures using demagoguery to make their credulous followers afraid of others.

You know what I think threatens the American way of life? Vapid political figures using demagoguery to make their credulous followers afraid of others.

Well, I kinda have to disagree there. Unfortunately, that pretty much sums up the history of the American way of politics, even going back to the days of Jefferson, Adams, et al..

Of coure, it is galling to see morons so transparently doing it. But it is hardly new and unique.

  2. raven says

It’s nice to be hated. By the right people anyway. If Sarah Palin didn’t hate me, I’d be incredibly disappointed.

You can see that atheists are moving up the fundie hate list. Gays are moving down. Moslems are holding their own. Racism is making a comeback.

  3. raven says

Palin has copied the tactics of Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and many other fundie xian leaders.

Just say anything, no matter how stupid, hate filled, or false it is.

Collect money. Big money in feeding the hate and lies of fundie xians back to them. Probably on the order of billions of USD per year.

  4. Jackie: ruining feminism one fabulous accessory at a time says

That’s so weird. See, I thought I was an American citizen and had no idea I was threatening my own “way of life”. Meanwhile, as I sit here watching the kids playing and the dogs napping wile I read and sip my soda, I wonder just which of those things is dangerous and must be stopped.

I’m guessing it’s the reading part.

  5. Crip Dyke, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden says

    Wait, what?

Are we selling deceptive mortgages designed to inflate the cost of home-ownership beyond the ability to pay so as to make the apparent payout attractive to buyers of mortgage derived financial products who don’t know that the inflated interest will never be paid so we get to pocket the buyers’ transaction costs while eliminating the dream of home ownership and beggaring the employees laid off by the corporate suckers who bought our derivatives (who only took the risk because the executives who make the decisions will get golden parachutes no matter how badly their company is crashing)?

Are we leaving behind us a populace with trashed credit ratings and communities of empty homes, effectively robbing property value from even those who didn’t fall for our fine-print shenanigans?

Are we creating vast pockets of unemployment as large layoffs and stalled housing markets ripple through the economy?

Because that would really, really fuck with the American Way of Life, it’s true.

Anyone who did something like that would truly deserve our ire.

Good thing Palin is here to criticize such evil.

  6. raven says

Palin: Atheists ‘Threatening the American Way of Life’

I hope so. Although nowhere near enough or as much as she pretends. Unfortunately.

Some atheists oppose the cult American Way of Life that consists of racism, mysogyny, voter suppression, imposed superstition, economic inequality, starving poor children, attacking science and education, hate, discrimination, and so on.

    Oddly enough, so do many….Xians!!!

Palin’s way of life is a minority in this country and always has been. She and McCain lost to Obama by 9 million votes.

  7. says

Darn it! She’s on to us! Scatter, Athiests! Meet up again at the one place they’ll never go: the library.

raven “Palin’s way of life is a minority in this country and always has been.”
Do you know who else were minorites? The Founding Fathers. And yet when Queen Victoria came over here with Sir Francis Drake and the whole Spanish Armada, they stood up for America and Freedom and America, and kicked the whole English army back to Europe!

“She and McCain lost to Obama by 9 million votes.”
Yes, but ACORN. Also, New Black Panthers.

  8. Larry says

Meanwhile, as I sit here watching the kids playing and the dogs napping wile I read and sip my soda, I wonder just which of those things is dangerous and must be stopped.

    You’re just like Hitler!

  9. mobius says

Yes. Clearly allowing atheists (and other non-Christians) to have religious freedom threatens the American Way. [/sarcasm]

  10. cptdoom says

Palin doesn’t know what the Obama administration is doing right? Well, given her stellar record of political achievements in, what 6 years, of public service, you sure can’t question her expertise on the subject, now can you? Let’s see, Palin managed to build an overpriced community center, wasn’t it, while the Obama administration saved the economy, including the US auto industry, passed the first step towards universal health coverage in 40 years, assisted in the expansion of recognized rights for LGBT Americans, and brought style (in clothes they actually paid for) back to the White House. As I said to my conservative cousin when he posted the old “Are you better off than you were 4 years ago” question on Facebook before the ’12 election “my house value is up, my 401(k) has more than doubled and the guy who tried to kill me on 9/11 is dead. Yeah, I’m better off.”

  11. thebookofdave says

I thought I was watching Sarah Palin’s comedy routine, until the newscaster comments at 1:50.

Palin, who is no stranger to adversity…

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!11!!!ONETY! That was awesome derp! I should check out more of his sketches, but not over my morning tea.

Now I need to wipe down my monitor and keyboard.

  12. Schlumbumbi says

She doesn’t even understand what she’s talking about – it’s not atheists who threaten the american way of life, it’s the social justice warriors with their communist masochism.

  13. zenlike says

Ah , I see the ‘pitter Schlumbumbi, after being banned at PZ’s place, is now looking to continue to gather ‘banned’ badges elsewhere.

Shut the fuck up Schlumbumbi, the ‘American way of life’ you hold dear is a paternalistic shithole, and it should die. Also, you sound like a Christian right-winger, calling everything you don’t agree with ‘communist’. You are a joke.

  14. throwaway, never proofreads, every post a gamble says

You know, someone who’s a vocal gun nut with a large gun nut continge, and someone who used crosshairs and gun euphemisms to target “political districts”, one of which belonged to Gabby Giffords, should either think twice about using rhetoric such as “they must be stopped” or be arrested for inciting violence against a minority group.

  15. Alverant says

Actually, Schlumb, I’ve noticed that the commies and conservatives have a lot in common. Neither likes democracy. Both see poor people as expendable. Both confuse loyalty to the party with loyalty to the country. Both want one party rule. Both believe in disproven economic ideas so strongly as to cast out anyone disagreeing with them. Both want to suppress gay rights. Both have low opinions of women. Both believe in some infallible all-seeing entity that owns everything yet can’t be neither questioned nor touched. Both hate freedom of religion and speech unless they approve of it. Both supported dictators in poor parts of the world. And both have a history of voter suppression.

Yep, those comservatists really are a threat to the USA.

  16. felidae says

Palin is sooo concerned about Christmas that she wants to make a lot of money by selling a ghostwritten book to credulous idiots who watch FOX news–look for it in the remainder bins come February

  17. says

Actually, Schlumb, I’ve noticed that the commies and conservatives have a lot in common. Neither likes democracy. Both see poor people as expendable.

yay. another person who has no idea what communism means.
Wait – socialism must mean nazism because Hitler’s Germany was called “National Socialist,” right?

And axles are evil! Or something.

  18. Alverant says

Jafafa, there’s a difference between the theory of communism and what the USSR practiced. I was going by what they did, not what “real” communism says they should have done.

  19. Schlumbumbi says

    @zen #18

Shut the fuck up Schlumbumbi, the ‘American way of life’ you hold dear is a paternalistic shithole, and it should die

Stop swallowing toothpaste. It’s bad for your brain.
I don’t give a fck about the american way of life, simply because I understand that every society has the exact political and cultural framework it deserves.

Voting for evil and dumb politicians is truly american. Idiotic, discriminatory loophole-for-the-rich legislation is truly american. Homeland security and Guantanamo are truly american. Fast food fatness, gang culture, gun nuts and school shootings are truly american. Scientology , megachurches, wage gaps and Affluenza are truly american. Self-hating SJWs and PETA vegan arsonists are truly american. Black and White thinking, rape culture and radical feminism are truly american. And the list goes on an on, without ever coming to an end.

And while some other cultures have adopted some of these lunacies, noone else but the US would be stupid enough to grow and foster all of them with so much passion.

You know what would change if Sarah Palin and her ilk just disappeared from one day to another?
Absolutely nothing. For 1 crazy person in american TV politics, there are 10 others waiting in line for their chance to fck up the country just a bit more.

Actually, Schlumb, I’ve noticed that the commies and conservatives have a lot in common

Sorry, but from the outside, they all look the same. No substantial differences.

What’s the difference between Andrew Breitbart, Jesse Ventura and Michael Moore ? What’s the difference between Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton ? What’s the difference between Ted Haggard and Barney Frank ? Between Mitt Romney and Nancy Pelosi ? How is Ann Coulter any more toxic than Chris Hedges ? And what’s with these radio clowns, Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken and Alex Jones ?

If you think one of them is substantially better than any other one, you’re not seeing the wood for the trees.

  20. says

Schlumbumbi “How is [person who is fucking awful] any worse than [person who isn't as bad]?” (paraphrase mine)
If you think Ann Coulter and Chris Hedges are the same, you need glasses.

  21. dingojack says

My dear Shrubthingy – I’m sorry to hear your brain damage has impaired your ability to distinguish between people. Perhaps some nice doctor will write a book about you.
    Dingo

  22. birgerjohansson says

I thought I was the one who threatened it the mostest. Also, in regard to Iran I should be adressed as “Equally Great Satan”. I have menace envy .

And Stewie Griffin is the greatest threat to Santa, and thus Christmas.

  23. says

Schlumbumhole sounds suspiciously like former (long gone and unlamented) commenter, “who”. Living elsewhere than the U.S., and being critical of many of the same things that, surprise, many people who live here are critical of, as well. Since I don’t know where he is I can’t tell him about the fucked-up shit that HIS country’s up to doing. It’s fun being a nihilist, until somebody bans your ass, son.

  24. Schlumbumbi says

    @Modusoperandi #28

The overall outcome of their efforts is identical. Both make a living by injecting poison into peoples’ minds. Lots of. But if I had to chose which one to keep, I’d chose Ann Coulter, because at least she can’t help but laugh at her own stuff. And that means, she is infact substantially less insane. Insofar, I take back what I said – there is a difference between Ann Coulter and Chris Hedges.

    @democommie (really?) #31
I never started counting but until now, I’ve been “accused” of being an alias for (roughly) 4 or 5 other FTB commenters. Whatever the reason for that is, full blown paranoia or the anal desire to pigeon-hole any form of dissent – just spare me your obsessions and take your pills, old fart.

And no, I’m not even remotely blind to the shit that’s going on in my own country. I won’t say a single word to defend it and I’m unwilling to delude myself into thinking that if only I could change this bit and that bit, things would get better. They wouldn’t. Shit tends to pile up, until it finally collapses. That’s the small timeframe, in which people can adjust some basic settings, in order to rebuild a slightly better version of society than the one they had before. Every single eurasian nation of the last century is a witness to that testimony.

  25. Jackie wishes she could hibernate says

    You’re just like Hitler!

It was a diet soda. So…yeah pretty much as bad as Hitler. ;)

    Slumbumi,
You’re dull, wrong and working hard at being unpleasant. Just go away.

  26. freehand says

Schlumbumbi: And what’s with these radio clowns, Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken and Alex Jones ?

Well, for one thing, Franken is no longer a radio host; he’s a senator. He isn’t shallow or misinformed. He is not filled with hate, nor superstitious, nor rude. He gives every indication of caring for the US, for high culture, and global civilization in general. You can’t tell the difference? I suppose that is nominally better than, say, Alex Jones’s actually favoring evil, bigotry, and ignorance.

Do you have any examples of people in the public eye you think are doing it right, or who are admirable? If you can think of none, perhaps the problem lies in yourself.

  27. says

“They wouldn’t. Shit tends to pile up, until it finally collapses.”

And yet, you’re still standing. Should we start a pool on when you’ll collapse into a puddle of fecal goo instead of being the tower of feces that you are at present?

“And no, I’m not even remotely blind to the shit that’s going on in my own country.”

Which you seem more than a bit coy, who, about identifying.

Nihilist troll will be nihilist fucking troll.

  28. Schlumbumbi says

    @democommie #36

LOL, with THAT name, you’re not in the position to call anyone anything, you evil old man.

  29. Ichthyic says

you know, less ignorant people could name at least one difference between each of your chosen comparisons.

you evidently, aren’t even aware, let alone could name one.
