Barton and Copeland Have Solved PTSD

With hundreds of thousands of soldiers returning from war with severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, an obvious result of the horrors of having to kill and possibly be killed, David Barton and televangelist fraud Kenneth Copeland have a solution: Just stop feeling it because God thinks you did great.

Reading from Numbers 32, Copeland said that soldiers are doing the work of God and, as such, “shall return and be guiltless before the Lord” meaning that they should never suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

“You listen to me,” Copeland said, addressing the camera, “you get rid of that right now. You don’t take drugs to get rid of it, it doesn’t take psychology; that promise right there will get rid of it.”

Barton wholeheartedly agreed, pointing out that many members of the “faith hall of fame” in the Bible “were warriors who took so many people out in battle,” but did so in a just war in the name of God, proving that “when you do it God’s way, not only are you guiltless for having done that, you’re esteemed.”

Oh yeah, the war being referred to in Numbers 32 was such a righteous, Godly war. Moses sent the soldiers into Midian and told them that God wanted them to slaughter every man, every married woman, and every male child and to take all the young virgin women back as the spoils of war. And seriously, this is his solution” “You listen to me, you get rid of that right now”? Well gosh, I bet that never occurred to them! We have a whole new form of therapy.

Sadly, that’s a common response to mental illness even outside the moronic fundie circuit. The stigma of mental illness and the belief that it just takes willpower (or “God power?”) to get over it is one of the tragedies of our times.

They’re being ridiculous. PTSD is Obama’s fault. First, he loses two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan, which he invaded, to kill the Muslims that he is one of), then he got involved in Libya, then he didn’t get involved in Egypt, then did both did and did not get involved in Syria. That’s, like, eight different kinds of PTSD! And don’t even get me started on him banning Military Jesus, forcing The Gays on the military, or dressing Marines in girlie hats.
Sure, the cure is still The LORD (and also voting for Christian Constitutional Small Government Tea Party Conservative Libertarian Republicans), but they should at least tell us who to blame.

And here I thought it was demons. Or am I getting my moronic fundies mixed up again? It’s so hard to tell the difference!

Granted I don’t know their histories, but I have my doubts that either David Barton or Kenneth Copeland have seen combat.

So according to their logic, all those soldiers have PTSD because they were NOT doing the work of God when they fought those wars the Christian Reich supported. That’s a nice bit of unintentional honesty there.

I’m sure they are experts, both having served in the military…oh, wait a minute…no, they didn’t.

I have a cousin who went in Afghanistan. We thought he’d be ok. He was supposed to be in a construction crew, and his job was supposed to be paving roads inside the perimeter of the bases. He wasn’t infantry. He was a road grater. I don’t know the full story, and I don’t want to ask him now. He ended up a part of a convoy. He was supposed to be in the lead vehicle, but for whatever reason wasn’t. It sounds like fucking cliche, but I don’t know if it was a IED or a grenade or whatnot, but the lead truck was hit. They died, he didn’t. Now he’s home, but at the same time he’s not. I am pretty sure if I did what they said to do and told him what they said I should say and pointed to the bible, my cousin would tell me to go fuck myself and then he would never speak to me again. And I wouldn’t blame him.

So this is a big fuck you to those like Copeland and Borton.

I love how when it comes to stoning disobedient children, they’re all “new covenant! New covenant!” But when it comes to killing people in war, its all “Old Testament! Old Testament!”

Maybe they should argue the point with William Lane Craig, who thinks the real victims of the OT genocides were the soldiers who had to do all that massacring. I mean, he at least acknowledges they might feel a wee bit upset about being on God’s death squads….

Fucking moral imbeciles, the lot of ‘em.

Can we start culling these people from society? It really is starting to become too much to bare.

    Dear Mr. Copeland,
I’m writing to offer a challenge for you. I challenge you to search for the biggest, baddest marine you can find. One who has a purple heart and a limp to prove it. Someone who has seen his brothers and sisters in arms cut to ribbons with gunfire or blown to bits by an IED. Someone who has to live every day knowing what it’s like to be involved in a conflict whose sole purpose seems to be to help right wingers like you get their jollies. When you find this marine, I want you to say, to his face, “You listen to me. You get rid of that right now.” When you get done with that sentence, you should be able to count your remaining teeth on one hand. Which will be handy, since your other hand will be occupied applying pressure to try and get the bleeding under control. It will be better than you deserve.

    Your friend,
    Loqi

What I really want for these clowns and every single one of the morally oblivious dullards who agree with them is to wake up to the reality of what they’re saying and what they’re agreeing with. And then I want them to wake every morning and realise afresh just how evil they’ve been. If they’re lucky and if they’re strong, they’ll settle their minds and their memories during the day and get on with their daily lives. And then they’ll wake up the next day and have to do it all again.

    For years. Endless years.

    They’ll get over it. Eventually.
