Peter LaBarbera is Not a Happy Camper

Illinois is about to become the 15th state to give legal recognition to same-sex marriages and Peter LaBarbera, who hails from that state, is none too happy about it. And the argument he makes absolutely cracks me up. He says it doesn’t matter what the law says:

Peter LaBarbera heads Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, which is based in the Chicago suburb of Naperville.

“It’s very sad to see the Land of Lincoln now on the verge of officially defying God with our marriage laws,” he tells OneNewsNow. “No matter what happens through the law or what politicians do, two men will never really be married, nor will two women. Marriage is one man, one woman.”

Then shouldn’t you just shut up about it? If you and your imaginary friend refuse to consider them married no matter what, then why does it matter to you? I’m sure gay couples are perfectly content with you sitting on your porch muttering “they ain’t married as far as I’m concerned” until the cows come home.

If fundie xianity couldn’t hate gays and Obama, what would be left?

About enough to bury in a matchbox.

Because the funnest part of having an imaginary friend is making everyone else obey him.

Hey didn’t the last time [Mrs Kitty O’Leary’s] cows came home turn out to be a bit of a disaster in Chigago?

Well no. . . there’d still be “RINOs”, Burkean/Oakeshottian conservatives, Democrats, liberals, moderates, honest people, Muslims, Arabs, hispanics, secularists, atheists, scientists, academics, “uppity” black people (read – sane reasonable black people), etc., etc.

For those who haven’t seen Betty’s take on Traditional Marriage, here’s 4 minutes of fun.

No matter what happens through the biblical law or what preachers do, Christians will never be saved, nor will the Muslims. Only the atheists will go to heaven (because God hates ‘yes men’).

This is the last gasp of the bigot who has lost in the public square.
“Well, you’ll never get ME to accept your so-called ‘marriage’!! Hmmmph!!!”

Fine. Now go die in a slow, hot fire.

Ya know, in Naperville the grassy area between the street and the sidewalk in front of you house, including said sidewalk, is considered public property. You’re responsible for the upkeep, but you can’t stop anyone from being on it. How fun would it be for a bunch of Naperville same-sex couples to get married in that space?

uh, Raven meant “left of the fundie xian” if they couldn’t hate.

    get it now?

Well, that was funny. Although she left out Lot & his daughters.

I tell people that Biblical marriage is one man and all the wives and concubines and sisters-in-law and female slaves & prisoners of war he can afford.

  11. Ex Patriot says

I f Betty B is correct then I can have 700 wives and 300 concubines, I don’t know what I would do with them all but would giveit a shot,. Idiots like himself should read their damn book for a change

He never won. LaBarbera’s career is notable for his complete lack of competence. He was eased out of the Illinois Family Institute (of which he was a founder) after he failed to gather enough signatures on an advisory referendum on marriage to even submit the petition.

    He’s your basic D-list bigot.

  13. RickR says

I meant “the bigot” in a general sense, not referring to LaBarbera in particular. He’s just the latest asshole to express the sentiment in Ed’s post.
When the law no longer enforces your prejudices (as is clearly the trend with marriage equality), declare in a loud voice “well….you can’t make me NOT be a prejudiced asshat! So there! Nyah!!”

When you hear them say that, you’ve won.

Just to let him know, that when it comes to marriage and the benefits, the ONLY thing that matters is what the law says. Without a piece of paper from the county clerk, no member of the clergy can declare anyone married.
