Peroutka: ENDA Will Force You to Be Gay

Michael Peroutka, the theocrat and neo-confederate who ran for president on the Constitution Party ticket, told wingnut radio show host Steve Deace that the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is an outrageous violation of religious liberty. In fact, he said, all civil rights laws are unjust because “there is no such thing as a civil right.”

And to top it all off, he claims that protecting gay rights will “force you to engage in the perversion, that’s where this goes.” The derp is strong with this one.

Although the sound clip cuts off right after Pertoutka asserts that “there is no such thing as a civil right” my guess is that he helpfully continues on and explains that “rights” can only come from God.

No. “Rights” arise from mutual rational agreement on a ground of equality. What he’s talking about is “permission.”

Wait … what?! I thought being gay was a choice. Now we’re going to be forced to be homosexual? My wife is going to be so disappointed, (I think.)

Can I get a list of what perversions the government is going to force me to participate in? Is there some kind of exchange set up where I can swap out ones I don’t want for ones I’d prefer?

Actually, this kinda makes sense, within the twisted world view some of the Religious Right have. You see, if you fail to do your utmost to prevent people from engaging in the evil, evil practice of existing whilst gay, then you’re at least tacitly endorsing this abomination, and are therefore party to it. Thus, you’re engaging in the perversion, even if you aren’t actually homosexual yourself, and protecting gay rights requires that you fail to ostracise and discriminate against gay folk.

ENDA includes an Individual Mandate, where on state-operated public exchanges (on “ObamaCupid.gov”) you choose which men you want to date. Coverage for various perversions varies on which level you choose (from “Closeted” to “Bear” to “Faaaabulous!”).

I think he’ll probably go quite willingly, even if he doesn’t admit it.

The civil liberty of religious freedom can only exist when there are no civil liberties. Fundy koan

I hate when I make an ironic joke that is pure satire, and the very next story is someone who claims the exact same thing will happen.

You try Reductio ad absurdum, then you see there’s no such thing as absurdum.

*shrug* I was already forced to end my heterosexual marriage and marry someone of the same sex when my state approved same sex marriage. Being forced to engage in same sex sex is just the next logical step down that slippery slope.
