Jackson: God to Stop ‘Blessing’ the Military

More and more of Virginia Republican lt. governor candidate E.W. Jackson’s bizarre and irrational statements in the past are coming out now that he’s actually relevant to something and it’s not turning out well. Here he is in 2011 saying that God is going to stop “blessing” the military because THE GAY!

But of course, it’s bigotry to quote his own words back to him. What does it even mean for God to “bless” the military? Help them win battles? How could we possibly tell whether he’s “blessing” the military or not?

… and it’s not turning out well.

    Not for him anyway.

What does it even mean for God to “bless” the military?

It prevents the devil from entering your nose when you sneeze.

Apparently the US military is so incompetent that it can’t function properly without the support of an omnipotent being.

The Washington Post just posted their final poll of the Virginia campaign (9/22 results in parenthesis):

    Governor
    McAuliffe (D) 51 (47)
    Cuccinelli (R) 39 (39)

    Lt Gov
    Northam (D) 52 (45)
    Jackson (R) 39 (42)

    Attorney General
    Herring (D) 49 (45)
    Obenshain (R) 46 (42)

Democratic Party: 50 fav, 48 unfav
Republican Party: 32 fav, 65 unfav

Virginia voters have had one of the clearest contrasts between candidates imaginable: Terry McAuliffe running an explicitly liberal campaign, and Ken Cuccinelli running a hardcore conservative one. It’s what both bases have been demanding, and both candidates have delivered.

There is one bright spot that could be used as evidence for the existence of the gods.

Jackson and Kookinelli aren’t doing well at the polls. Both are at 39% and way behind the Democrats in the last poll.

The wonder isn’t that Jackson is losing. The wonder is that anyone much less 39% of the Virginia voters are voting for him. He is just repeating standard fundie xian god babble over and over. A parrot could do the same thing.

And Kookinelli wants to make the visions of his dark, empty, and twisted mind into law in Virginia.

So covering up the rape of female soldiers is OK with god but allowing homosexual soldiers to openly be homosexual is not. Got it, thanks.

I thought you needed the arc of the covenant to help you win battles. At least that’s what Indiana Jones told me during his first, and best, documentary.

How could you watch that entire movie and take away that?! To win the battle, you need the other side to have the Ark.

When God blesses the military, each soldier gets +1 to all saving throws.

Doesn’t matter if god blesses the military – everyone uses iron chariots now so the blessing is ineffective.

Somebody find some quotes about the religious wrong of the Civil War period saying the same thing about slavery, and read them to this man…..

Now you’re just being ridiculous. Sure, He blessed the South, but He blessed the North more.*

    * And also the South will rise again. Which is good for some reason. And the Republicans are heroes. Like Lincoln, who valued State’s Rights so much that he banned the right of Rebel states to own people (which, I believe, was overturned by the Roberts court because it only effected states that owned people, while leaving the ones that didn’t own people free to own the people that they didn’t own) .

Is this a cause of Huccicucci’s recent lament, blaspheming against his god for failing to unleash promised hellfire and brimstone upon the heathen and infidel run US of A?

God could demonstrate his blessing the military by repairing their wounds, especially the casualties we humans can’t yet heal.

I’ll happily take bets that won’t happen, with odds!

There’s an old joke that during WW2, a group of Allied soldiers captured some Germans. The Germans cried `Gott mitt uns’, which the Allied soldiers heard as `Got mittens’. They held up their hands, and called back `We got mittens too’. (This may explain why Willard wasn’t elected President last year.)

Actually, the whole thing is a throwback to the days when gods ruled territories, and thus when the Israelites invaded Canaan, this meant that the gods of the Canaanites were defeated and overthrown by Yahweh. It actually put a good check on unbridled expansionism, as invading another country meant you were putting your god(s) up against theirs.

Anyway, a real Christian would say that, since God is universal, that blessing one country should not come at the expense of others, and certainly not at the cost of injustice and inequity. But then, the `Bishop’s’ ravings have not very much to do with Christianity.

When Kooky and Jackson lose, of course, it’ll all be due to illegal voters.

They are already making excuses – that they ran a bad campaign.

It seems that god stopped blessing our military after WWII. All of the wars since then have not gone well for us, except for Grenada, but that was waived for Comic Relief. Sort of like god saying, “Pull my finger.”

I wonder if the men and women in the military who were sexually assaulted or harassed felt blessed by god.

@5: Who said anything about the covering up of rape of soldiers being ok with God?
