Rush, Garrow Want Obama Executed For Their Delusions

Eric Rush and Jim Garrow continue to spout their bizarre theory that President Obama tried to nuke the United States before being stopped by three military leaders. They even claim that the Iran agreement is an attempt to distract attention from that “fact” because Americans were catching on to their delusions.

Looking At Another Klayman Rally Speaker

Larry Klayman’s failed “second American revolution” rally had nearly as many speakers as it did attendees, including some of the most extreme and ridiculous figures on the far right. Right Wing Watch takes a look at one of them, Thomas Robert Lacovara-Stewart, one of the “Oathkeepers” with a website that is chock full of bizarre conspiracy theories. A few examples:

American Atheists Challenges IRS Religious Preferences

The Freedom From Religion Foundation won a very important lawsuit this week against the parsonage tax exemption for churches, with their argument being that because it applies only to Christian churches, it is a special benefit for churches and thus unconstitutional. American Atheists has a similar suit going on another case of disparate treatment, the lower reporting requirements for churches under section 501(c) of the IRS code. Kimberly Winston writes about that case at Religion News Service.

Klayman, WND Lose Another Court Ruling

Remember that absurd lawsuit filed by the Worldnetdaily against Esquire over a parody article making fun of their birther obsessions? The district court dismissed the case, in which they are represented by Larry Klayman and now the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld that ruling. And look who the judges were that ruled against them:

Catherine Dunphy’s Story of Being Shunned

Catherine Dunphy, executive director of the Clergy Project, tells an all-too-familiar story at Hemant’s blog. The story is about being shunned by her deeply religious mother over her atheism and it’s pretty heartbreaking to read, especially for those who have endured similar situations (I have not, for the record).

IRS Proposes New Guidelines for Political Non-Profits

Throughout the mostly fake IRS “scandal” the right pretended that it was all about Obama persecuting conservative groups, but the real problem was that the rules governing political non-profits are far too vague and provide little guidance. Now the IRS is proposing new rules to fix that.

Klayman: On a Mission From God

I had missed this little tidbit from Larry Klayman’s speech to the tens of people who gathered at Lafayette Park to get President Obama to resign from office:

“Our strength comes from God. We take orders only from him. We don’t take orders from Hussein over there. We take orders from our God, not his. So consequently we are moving forward and we look for your support and your help.” He ended his remarks by saying, “and most important of all, we have God on our side.”

Okay, so if you fail to achieve your goal will it be because A) God doesn’t exist; B) God does exist but isn’t on your side; or C) God is on Obama’s side?

Doocy: Iran Deal a Distraction From Obamacare

Steve Doocy of Fox and Friends, who really is the dumbest man on television (his only real competition comes from his co-host, Brian Kilmeade), suggested on the show on Monday that the newly announced deal with Iran and several other countries was an attempt to distract attention from the Obamacare website problems.

Fischer: God Will Punish Us for Iran Agreement

Adding to the seemingly endless list of things that God is allegedly going to punish us for, Bryan Fischer says that God will curse America for reaching an initial agreement with Iran over nuclear power. Because Israel doesn’t like it. Good news, gay people — you’re off the hook, the next earthquake or hurricane will be John Kerry’s fault, apparently.

My Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Talk

On Monday night I participated in an interfaith Thanksgiving service in Grand Rapids at Temple Emanuel, a Reformed Judaism synagogue. I was representing CFI – Michigan, on whose advisory board I sit. It was the 14th annual event of its kind and CFI has been involved for the last few years at the insistence of the religious leaders involved, who have gone out of their way to include us. I was very pleased to take part in it.
