Robertson: Liberalism Leads to Nazis

Pat Robertson delivered on of his standard-issue diatribes against liberalism and humanism, which of course causes every bad thing imaginable and none of it would happen if we just all believed in God. And never mind all of the atrocities committed in the name of God — including Nazism.

You know the liberals, the so called socialists, the progressives, they’ve moved away from God and when you move away from God then you say, ‘were humanists.’ Then as a result of humanity and rejecting God, you have the orgy of the French Revolution, you have the guillotine cutting off the heads of thousands of people, you have the same thing going on now in Europe, you had it under the Nazis. Why can’t we come back to the fact that God loves people?

Because if the Bible is to be believed (and it isn’t, but Pat thinks it is), that simply isn’t true. The God of the Bible either commanded or directly carried out slaughters and atrocities far worse than Hitler ever dreamed of, including killing all of mankind and most of the animals — which the fundies teach as a cute story in Sunday School, FFS.

Thousands of people in Europe are having their heads cut off? How did I miss that?

Yes, that one always astounds me. Oh, lookit all the cute wittle animals! And the cute wiittle boat! Let’s play Noah and the Flood!

But they never seem to make cute wittle drowning sinners to put in their play sets. Not that it would be an improvement if they did.

People who think the Bible is a place to get fine moral lessons don’t seem to recognize that they’ve got a God who drowns virtually an entire planet — and a Devil who never does anything that could get anyone arrested.

I hope the fundies and teapartiers never learn about Godwin’s law. It would take half the fun out of it.

In the unlikely event that we ever have a Madame Defarge, what do you want to bet it would be somebody from the Tea Party?

One of the first things God says to Adam in the bible is a lie. The first quote from the Devil* is the truth. The original writers of this story would not have been oblivious to this. It must mean something.

*Requires that you subscribe to the relatively modern interpretation that the serpent is the Devil in disguise.

    “Liberalism Leads to Nazis.”

Silly me, I thought losing a world war and getting the shaft in the peace process leads to Nazis…

Why can’t we come back to the fact that God loves people?

Because it it always comes down in the end to the fact that Christians hate people.

Why can’t we come back to the fact that God loves people?

I know Robertson has read the Bible, but he obviously did not get the message. If God loves people, he has a rather sadistic, twisted way of showing it. How do I know? The bible tells me so. Why he loves people so much he frequently smote them, killed all but one family at one point in a worlwide flood, allowed his own son to be horribly tortured and killed, and on and on. If this is love, then I want to stay as far as possible from this Orwellian doublespeak nightmare.

Why can’t we come back to the fact that God loves people?

Because Robertson’s proposed god showed his disdain for people by refusing to use his omnipotence to prevent “the orgy of the French Revolution, … the guillotine cutting off the heads of thousands of people, … [and] the Nazis”.

Sorry, but exactly WHAT is going on in Europe now? Or does he just mean how Spain etc have legalised gay marriage?
