Meet Zeeda Andrews »« Chambers Gets Back to ‘Unskewing’ Polls

Carson Throws Red Meat to the Rubes

The annual Values Voters Summit started on Friday, which means the usual lineup of wingnuts saying the usual bugnutty things about President Obama and everything else. Rising right wing star Ben Carson started it off by telling the crowd that Obamacare was slavery.

I have to tell you, Obamacare is, really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery, and it is slavery in a way…

“It is making all of us subservient to the government, and it was never about health care, it was about control. That’s why, when this adminstration took office, it didn’t matter that the country was going off the cliff economically. All forces were directed toward getting this legislation passed. And why did they want to pass it so badly? Well, as I said the other night on television, Vladimir Lenin, one of the fathers of socialism and communism, said that socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state.”

*yawn* Let us repeat for the 10 millionth time that the Affordable Care Act is not even remotely “socialized medicine.” It is subsidized private health insurance. And on the list of things to worry about, America becoming a Leninist, socialist state should rank just below another Mission Impossible sequel.

Because “values” are all about making sure poor people can’t have their illnesses treated!

    “Subsidized” is Socialism.*

    * Except when I get it. Because I earned it. Unlike those people.

Yet here in Oz we’ve had medicare for many decades and have just voted in the most conservative government in at least a decade. Not much evidence of socialism here. Just healthcare taken fro granted for all as a basic principle and a very capitalist society generally.

Much the same applies for the UK too from what I gather.

Arrgh. Blockquote fail, sorry. First line is from the OP natch.

Fer realsies? I have a distinct memory of vigorous efforts being extended to save the economy. Propping up banks. Buying ‘troubled assets.’ Government investment in auto companies. Quantitative easing. I also have a distinct memory that those efforts were successful. Maybe it was just a dream.

No, no, see, here is how it worked. Bush implemented all of those policies that saved the economy, which is still terrible by the way. Obama came in and spent all the money in order to steal our freedom and implement socialist communism while ruining the economy that Bush had saved before leaving office. Much like Roosevelt, with all his spending, caused the Great Depression. [/sarcasm]

  7. John Pieret says

It is making all of us subservient to the government

Since when did the wingnuts have any problem making people subservient to the government? Like when they try to make everyone say prayers in school and at government meetings or when they want to use government to force women to have transvaginal sonagrams before they can have legal medical treatment in the form of an abortion.

Oh, right! It is only bad to make people subservient to the government when it is making them do what they don’t want to do instead of making other people do what the wingnuts want them to do.

Dr. Carson is also an evolution denier and, I would bet, a global warming denier. I note that he is also a Fascist News Channel contributor and a columnist for the Fascist Washington Times. Another self hating black man like Clarence Thomas.

BECAUSE FORCING OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN TO PRAY TO MY GOD AND SHAMING SLUTS IS FREEDOM!

dogmeat #7: that saved the economy, which is still terrible by the way…

Yes, and despite the monolithic focus on jobs, jobs, jobs by the Tea Party Republicans. Hard to figure out.

Vladimir Lenin, one of the fathers of socialism and communism, said that socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state.”

    1. Chances are Lenin never said this. Most fundie death cult xian quotes are fake, routinely George Washington, Jefferson, and Hitler. And if David Barton said it, it’s always a lie.

    2. Carson is a creationist, just a routine christofascist kook. Fundie-ism is a package deal of polycrackpottery.

    3. Just about every country in the Western world has some form of Universal Health Care, Canada, UK, Germany etc.. The world hasn’t ended for them, nor are they waving red flags around and threatening to take over the world. In fact, they like it a lot.

    4. One of the countries with partially “socialized medicine” is…the USA. We have Medicare for old people, a wildly successful and popular program. I’d like to see the Tea Party and Carson take Medicare away from the old people. Go ahead, make my day people. And Medicaid for a few poor people.

  12. raven says

it’s not true. Lenin never said that. And the fake quote dates back to when Truman was talking about (actual) socialized medicine.

    Oh.

I see Johnny Vector at 10 already checked it.

A fake quote. They do that a lot.

The truth matters. It should matter. It doesn’t matter to Carson and the fundies one tiny bit.

  13. demonhauntedworld says

I have to tell you, Obamacare is, really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery,

Well, they’re making progress. Republicans were saying that Obamacare was the worst thing ever in the history of the world. Now it’s just the worst thing since slavery.

  14. zero6ix says

And soon, once the message hits their brains that, no it isn’t, they’ll switch it up and evolve to “Its the worst thing since the japanese interment camps!” or “The worst thing since that time Bush Sr. threw up in the japanese prime ministers lap!”

Because I’m in a japanese mood today.

  15. says

Obamacare is like slavery, and, remember, the Founding Fathers all fought to their dying day to ban slavery. So preventing the working poor from enjoying an expansion of Medicaid and stopping the working not-so-poor and people with pre-existing conditions getting subsidized access to private healthcare insurance on an open, transparent, public exchange is exactly what the Founding Fathers would have done. After tipping crates of generic aspirin in to Boston Harbor Ben Franklin said it best, when he wrote as Richard Saunders in Richie Richard’s Almanack, “Screw you. I got mine.”

  16. rumleech says

I’m speaking officially on behalf of socialism here and I’m only going to say this once. We don’t want Barack Obama! We’re sure he’s a perfectly lovely bloke and all that but the millionaire, capitalism lover is not one of us and you can keep him

  17. Michael Heath says

    Ed concludes:

*yawn* Let us repeat for the 10 millionth time that the Affordable Care Act is not even remotely “socialized medicine.” It is subsidized private health insurance. And on the list of things to worry about, America becoming a Leninist, socialist state should rank just below another Mission Impossible sequel.

Well, I continue to be very worried about the effects on all humans due to the Republican party using this BS as justification for their insanely destructive behavior.

  18. says

Michael Heath “Well, I continue to be very worried about the effects on all humans due to the Republican party using this BS as justification for their insanely destructive behavior.”
To be fair, they weren’t using this BS as justification for their insanely destructive behavior they’d be using some other BS as justification for their insanely destructive behavior.

  19. colnago80 says

And to further demonstrate Carson’s ignorance, the economic system in the former Soviet Union had nothing to do with Socialism or Communism as it would have been understood by Marx and Engels. As the Trotskyites say, it was state capitalism.

  20. exdrone says

it was never about health care, it was about control.

But the ACA was 2,500 pages. Wasn’t there a simpler way to impose government control? Typical government inefficiency.

  21. Johnny Vector says

Speaking of “2500 pages”, does anyone know where that meme came from? And how dumb people think we must be to keep repeating it?
