Fox News Falls for Ridiculous Anti-Obama Story

On Planet Wingnuttia, no claim about Obama is ever too ridiculous to be believed, even if it’s obviously a joke. The latest fake story is that President Obama had offered to pay out of his own pocket to keep a Muslim museum open during the shutdown, which was published on a satirical website. But Fox News fell for it hook, line and sinker. Said Fox and Friends co-host Anna Kooiman:

The Republican National Committee is offering to pay for it [the WW II memorial] to keep it open so that the veterans from Honor Flight are going to be able to go and see this because who did it honor? It honored them. It really doesn’t seem fair, especially — and we’re going to talk a little bit later in the show too about some things that are continuing to be funded. And President Obama has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the museum of Muslim culture out of his own pocket, yet it’s the Republican National Committee who’s paying for this.

And I’m so tired of his hyper-emotional demagoguery over the war memorials, as though that was one great injustice of the shutdown. The EPA can’t do inspections or cleanup on toxic waste sites, but this is the real problem, that some memorials are closed and that proves how evil President Obama is (but not the Republicans, who caused the shutdown). For crying out loud, one of my dearest friends, someone I love very much, had to go to Canada on Friday and break the law to get chemo drugs for her leukemia because the NIH is shut down and they were the ones who provided the drugs for her treatment. She could have been arrested for getting drugs that are keeping her alive because of this. But no, the real tragedy, the one Fox News is obsessing over, is a fucking monument.

Not just Fox News. They know their audience and they know what their audience cares about.

My reply has been, don’t like the monument shut down? Call your congressman, they shut it down.

Fox News Falls for Ridiculous Anti-Obama Story

It might be more accurate to say that “Fox News Knows Its Audience Will Fall for Ridiculous Anti-Obama Story.”

They say it costs nothing to keep them open, so why are they doing this except to spite people, etc.

Insurance, maintenance, gardening, security, etc…its not like the place is a field people just wander around in. If someone breaks down a barricade and theres no staff on hand and somehow breaks some shit or injures themselves (which if theyre the kind of people intentionally going to a place with is CLOSED…they may not be the kind of people you can trust to not cut themselves on a spoon and then use salt to pack the wound) you can bet theyd be complaining about and suing anyone and everything.

Its like saying, why do you need to fund a community pool, its just a big puddle…nm the lifeguards who help make sure people don’t drown, the people who make sure the water is still hygienic, the people maintaining the grounds and the money that goes into things like plumbing, staff to monitor people coming and going to try and make sure people go into the right changing areas or dont forget stuff, people to help less able people with things, etc.

A department store is just a big open place full of clothes and things, so when they’re closed I should just be able to pick the lock and help myself? Because them shutting their doors for the night is just to spite me, so I deserve to get what anyway.

I mean crap, why are they going there?! Whats the point? Its closed, you know its closed, you people closed it…so stay the hell away until its open again! Why insist that you can live no problem without the gummit, and just wish it would go away, and the second it temporarily does you’re up in arms about the things you can’t do because of it? Morons.

Does “the museum of Muslim culture” even exist?

This stuff has been bugging me for a long time and has only gotten worse with the shutdown. A couple of FB friends reposted the “ZOMG! Obama is keeping people from seeing Mt. Rushmore”, complete with a badly PhotoShopped picture of Mt. Rushmore with a couple of helicopters lowering a tarp. The truth was that the Park Service had set out some cones to prevent people from parking along the road to take pictures — the tourists had to go to the designated viewing areas.

As someone has pointed out, the plans for closing monuments, etc., have been in the works since the last time a shutdown was threatened. They’ve been in public documents since 2011. There are no surprises here.

*sigh* Another symptom of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

Does “the museum of Muslim culture” even exist?

Yes, but it’s privately funded. Snopes has the details.

Uh, wouldn’t citizens paying to maintain their own monuments out of their own pockets sort of the thing that free market fundamentalist liberterandians would support?

    1. The shutdown is a minor thing, so minor that we nobody can tell. (Rightwing on odd minutes)
    2. The shutdown is the worst thing ever, and Obama is maximizing the pain. (Rightwing on even minutes)

Chiroptera: Well, yes, but this ties into the “Obama secret ebil Mooslum terrorist” bullshit. If Obama had actually donated money to, say, keep the Vietnam Memorial open, then it would’ve been proof of his grandstanding. Remember, everything that might happen is proof that Obama’s evil.

    What about this one:

    http://www.thelibertypaper.org/2013/10/05/the-only-national-park-untouched-by-the-shutdown-obamas-golf-course/

    There is an explanation:

“The Andrews Air Force Base golf course is funded through user fees and that’s why it remains open, said Air Force Captain Lindy Singleton, chief of public affairs for the 11th Wing at Andrews.” (source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-03/troops-forage-for-food-while-golfers-play-on-in-shutdown.html)

It’s highly unlikely that the truth will get any significant play.

President Obama has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the museum of Muslim culture…

Yeah right, who would even believe that? Everyone knows liberals prefer taking from the makers and giving to the takers. If the story said Obama’s secret service was shaking down the Armani suits exiting Rockefeller Plaza to pay the Muslims, then I’d be all like, I knew it, he’s a Muslim!

    @Democommie:

The guy who wrote that article about Andrews AFB (and other stuff) is a proud graduate of Belmont University, a private Christian college in Nashville, TN where Alberto Gonzales holds the newly established Doyle Rogers Distinguished Chair of Law.

    Just sayin’

    Thanks for the update.

I got the original link from a troll over at Southern Beale’s blog.
