Marriage Equality Wildly Popular in Massachusetts

10 years ago, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued its landmark Goodridge ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in that state. The bigots immediately began to make dire predictions, none of which turned out to be true. And now a whopping 85% of the residents say it’s been either positive or neutral:

Gay marriage being legal in Massachusetts still doesn’t seem to be destroying too many people’s lives. 85% of voters in the state say it’s either had a positive or no impact on their lives, with only 15% saying it’s been a negative. Even among Republicans 66% say it hasn’t negatively affected them. Voters in the state support gay marriage being legal by a greater than 2:1 margin, 60/29.

And remember how it was supposed to destroy straight marriages? Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country. And people are still getting married and loving their kids. “The family” hasn’t fallen apart or been destroyed in the least. Incest and polygamy have not been legalized. Dogs and cats are still not living together. No plagues of locusts have been reported. Gee, it’s almost like the Christian right was completely full of shit or something. Who woulda guessed?

The Talibangelicals promised me an apocalypse because of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. That never happened. It makes me wonder what else they’ve lied about.

Those librul statistics are false, I tell you!!!! Just like the stuff about global “warming”.
Or people in Massachusetts have been taken over by those mind-controlling alien slugs.
HELP! HELP! WE ARE BEING OPPRESSED!

Who would have guessed that 60% of the people of Massachusetts would be demon possessed?

Great! Now they can get started on legalizing Polyamory (as opposed to polygamy or polyandry).

I used to live in Massachusetts, before the Supreme GAY Makeover. Now, when I go back to see my friends I have to visit multiple houses because they’re all divorced and reGAYmarried. It’s horrid. Oh, and I can’t take Buddy the Wonderdog, neither, cuz, cats and dogs living together!!

Wait for it, Ed. We legalized same sex marriage in Canada 13 years ago and there are dogs and cats living together in the house right next door to mine. Not that I have a problem with that…some of my best friends are dogs and cats.

An anecdote: my daughter’s cat is a recent widow. Hairball was in a common law, inter species, same sex relationship with the black lab next door until cancer claimed the dog. They had a beautiful relationship.

Oh sure, but what Ed doesn’t tell you about is the mass incarceration of Christian pastors/ministers/priests who had the nerve to speak out against the official government position on the evils of gays and them having marriage equality. Synfandel, do you even let them use your bathroom, or do they have their own water dish?

Artor, they have their own litter pan, of course. I’m not a communist. Well, okay, I am a communist, but people would talk.

    … 15% saying it’s been a negative.

“Waahh! Adam and Steve already booked the best caterer on that day!”

    @Crip Dyke:

If it isn’t, my wife, girlfriend, her other boyfriends, and my wife’s boyfriend (and his wife and…well, get the picture?) are breakin’ the law.

What I should have said, I suppose was ‘polyamorous marriage’.

TYPICAL! “‘GAYS ARE POPULAR’, SAYS STATE”, “WORLD DOESNT END AFTER HOMEGAYS SO-CALLED ‘MARRY’”. PAH!

“MARK MY WORDS IF THIS KEEPS UP ONE MORNING YOU’LL WAKE UP AND FIND THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS LEGALIZED POLYDACTYLRY!”

Goody goody. Then that would mean that my husband’s beloved polydactyl cat would no longer have to live in shame! He has seven toes on one front paw and six toes on the other three paws.

    Kaintukee Bob, #14:

Polygamy refers to plural marriage of either sex. Specifying one-husband-many-wives is “polygyny.”

Even among Republicans 66% say [gays marrying] hasn’t negatively affected them.

I would love to see the claims on how the 33% have supposedly been negatively affected. Here’s two of the reasons I think would be reported: It’s harder being a bigot and family members are coming out where I prefer they quietly suffer in the closet.

You have at least one other obvious reason. They don’t get to bully teh GAY without being vilified for it.

“Well, of course gay marriage has harmed the state. The fact that people think it hasn’t harmed the state shows that they’ve all been brainwashed into thinking it’s okay. Therefore it’s not okay.”

(I was once told that my thinking that being gay has not harmed me is proof that it has.)

The high percentage of support is just cognitive dissonance. The Goodridge ruling made same-sex marriage mandatory, which is what the fundies warned us would happen. So now that everyone has been forced into a homosexual marriage, they’re just making the best of it.

And guess what else? Romneycare hasn’t ended all life in Massachusetts either. We seem to have beaten all the demonic influences.

We’re thinking of posting tower guards on the border fences.

You know what’s really SKKKary to the KKKonservaKKKlowns?

Massachusetts has teh GAYmawwiage, Romneycare AND something like sensible gun control and it STILL hasn’t resulted in the earth bursting open and demons dragging the whole population straight into hell.
