Ladies and Gentlemen, the ‘Ex-Gay’ of the Year

The “ex-gay” group Voice of the Voiceless is giving out some awards, including one for the “ex-gay” of the year. Here’s an interview with this year’s winner, who says he was a “Satanic drag queen” but all that changed when he went to church and “some of the most masculine, butchest men reached into my life and loved me.” Ooooookay.

I have a friend in the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. She usually has a goth and/or steampunk theme to her outfit. Is that the kind of “satanic drag queen” he’s talking about?

“some of the most masculine, butchest men reached into my life and loved me.”

I don’t think he’s fully got the hang of the ex gay bit.

Did they have a swim-suit section?

This is a tragic tale of child hood abuse leading to drug abuse leading to homelessness, none of which is related to homosexuality, made all the more terrible by some bigoted fundies convincing him that it was all due to his homosexuality. Add a friendly face at the church and he has a new community and abandons his old life in favour of that.

Absolutely none of it proves you are not gay at birth. Absolutely none of it even proves he isn’t gay any more; they’ve made the classic fundie mistake of thinking that “gay” is a lifestyle rather than a sexuality. He’s given up his former lifestyle, but does he still have feelings for men? Because that’s what homosexuality means, you dumb xian arseholes.

Ahahahaha, how does someone say that with a straight face? He might as well have winked at the camera while reminiscing about last nights “group study”.

Wait a second, he was a homeless, jobless, cocaine addict that couldn’t even get a “gig” as his drag-queen satan self, but when he had his “transformation,” he had to cancel all of his scheduled appearances? If you’re going to tell a bullshit story, at least try to maintain a consistent bullshit story.

Fortunately, it was DC so they weren’t discriminated or…pummalted?

How appalling that they grabbed some foreign tourists who seemed to have little to no idea what this was even about to use them in the video (of course, they had to given that there were about ten people at the “rally”).

    Yes.

SC, I doubt that there were ten people there. He interviewed at least two of them that I saw and they appeared to not have a clue as to what the “rally” was about, just that idiocy about gay people not being born gay, that you can be ex-gay, etc. Reminds me of uncreative kids creating a video for a class project and just talking to random people about the topic.

I noticed that, too. He also says that his gay friends were nowhere to be found when he was in crisis, and then later revealingly suggests that he’d “worn out his welcome” with pretty much everyone. Tough to stick to the ex-gay script, I guess.

“some of the most masculine, butchest men reached into my life and loved me.”

and he’s immediately cut off by the other guy.

    Re dingojack @ #5

OT but yesterday, you asked about the post where Donaldo got the heave ho. Here it is: http://goo.gl/xQagZh

    Brayton’s comment @ #41

I’ve had enough of Don Williams and his bizarre rants and thread hijacking. He’s history.

I thought it was at this ridiculous event. Looks like about ten, but maybe fewer actual attendees.

The only thing he missed was saying that he is so grateful not to have homosexuality shoved down his throat anymore.

Apparently, this was the culmination of Voice of the Voiceless’s Single Man March on Washington.

I think that event would have had a lot more “ex-gay” attendees, if only due to confusion over the name.

I nominate a more accurate term. The Lying to Yourself for the Sake of Some Imaginary Friend award would be far more apt.

    “Voice for the Voiceless”? WTF?

KKKristianist maroons seem to specialize in using names for their groups that are either an obvious contradiction in terms or an oxymoron.

Other than in the sense that he might have been abused or bullied for being gay, of course.

People who convert are rewarded and conditioned to present the most depraved possible former life (think of Jack Chick atheists) and the most wonderful, sappiest, post-conversion lives (think of The Stepford Wives). A few inconsistencies are bound to show up until one has practiced the story a few dozen times.

Will there be a “Village Voiceless” column or publication starting up soon?

There is actually a traveling show, done by mimes. Yet another reason to loathe mimes.

Of course I never went through the drag queen scene due to being a transwoman who wasn’t attracted to any males until I was around ~21-23; I imagine if I was a straight girl I might have. As a transwoman this is till sad to me even though trans=/=homosexual because gender identity=/=sexual orientation.

So yeh..pretty sad story really, hopefully he can at least get some coin of the rubes willing to hear the tale, and then go party on it or something.
