Pratt: Obama Helps Al Qaeda, Hates America

Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, the group so far to the right that they think the NRA are a bunch of liberal pansies, went on Stan Solomon’s internet radio show and declared that President Obama is always helping Al Qaeda because he just hates America.

One of the hallmarks of being a wingnut is that one’s preconceived notions about the world are absolutely immune to evidence or logic. No matter what is actually going on, they will continue to repeat the same talking points. Obama is a liberal appeaser and probably a Muslim terrorist and that’s all there is to it. The fact that he has actually ramped up our pursuit of Al Qaeda operatives all over the world with an unprecedented drone strike program is simply ignored. Let’s ask Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader Anwar al-Awlaki how much Obama is helping him. Oh, we can’t. He was killed by a drone strike. So was his son.

Here’s a list of other Al Qaeda leaders that have been killed or captured: Al Qaeda’s chief of Pakistan operations, Abu Hafs al-Shahri; ‘Atiyah ‘Abd al-Rahman, the deputy leader of Al Qaeda; Ilyas Kashmiri in Pakistan; Ammar al-Wa’ili, Abu Ali al-Harithi, and Ali Saleh Farhan in Yemen; Al Qaeda in East Africa (AQEA) senior leader Harun Fazul in Somalia; Younis al-Mauritani was arrested in Pakistan; Tehrik e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mahsud; Jemayah Islamiya operational planner Noordin Muhammad Top in Indonesia; AQEA planner Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan in Somalia; Al Qaeda operational commanders Saleh al-Somali and ‘Abdallah Sa’id in Pakistan; Haqqani network commander Muhammad Haqqani and Lashkar-e Jhangvi leader Qari Zafar in Pakistan. One could go on and on.

But Pratt and his fellow far right propagandists don’t care about any of this. They have a narrative and they’re sticking to it, facts be damned.

    How did kiilling the founder, Osama bin Laden, help Al Qaeda? A task Bush and Cheney tried and failed to do.

    Unfortunately, several of the groups that the US would be supporting in Syria are openly supported by al-Qaida and other Islamicist organization. Kind of puts these right-wing nut jobs in a bit of a quandary, doesn’t it.

    The only way President Obama’s actions could have helped Al Qaeda is if they’re unionized and were having trouble ridding themselves of obstinate but incompetent members.

    Maybe he forgot that St.Reagan helped al Qaeda in the first place.

    @Raven
    No, they didn’t try to kill OBL. They just made a show of it until it got hard and realized that it was better for them OBL was alive to scare the American people into supporting them. Remember how OBL tapes were always revealed when W’s popularity took a dip then stopped after he became impeachment-proof?

    You’re forgetting that, with every kill, Barack Hussein Obama moves one more step up in the organization.

    Pratt probably figures that Osama and all those other dead guys are actually alive and have been smuggled into the USA to carry on their evil plans.

    Kind of puts the Obama administration in a bit of a quandary too.

    But at the beginning of the sound clip, he cites “buzz on the internet”, so his argument is evidence-based. It’s not like he’s pulling it out of his ass, you know.

    It took the US ten years, two administrations, and hundreds of civilian deaths to find and kill Bin Laden, it took six weeks for the french socialist who snarked his way into the presidency to find and rid the world of Abu Zeid: funny how the seemingly meek “appeasers” are often more efficient: it’s as if all the right-wing bellicose posturing served only to hide blatant incompetence and sloth.

    Woah! Back up. That’s not fair. It also hides cowardice and fear.

    These groups and individuals are effective in their role. By staking out the fringe, they provide cover for the less fringy groups to promote their agendas. This allows the NRA, for example, to move the country to the right and still claim a middle ground.

    It’s a common tactic.
