Liz Cheney, the Second Coming of Winston Churchill

Liz Cheney’s primary challenge to Sen. Mike Enzi is floundering. She’s getting crushed in the polls and she’s getting desperate. So what does she do? Compares herself to Winston Churchill fighting against Adolf Hitler (played, of course, by Barack Obama).

Cheney filled her 90-minute speech and question-and-answer session with red meat for the conservative crowd. She compared herself to Winston Churchill standing up to Adolf Hitler and suggested members of both parties in Congress are hiding information about Obamacare from the public. She wrote off the entire newspaper industry, but more specifically the Jackson Hole News&Guide.

Melodramatic much? Oh, and she delivered empty platitudes like this:

Cheney said her candidacy — she plans to challenge incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi for his seat in the 2014 Republican primary — is important because the country is at a turning point.

“Nations go through moments where the people in those countries have to make a choice and have to make a decision,” she said.

Wow, Liz. That’s profound. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the people in every country have to make lots of choices and decisions every day, don’t they?

What would that even mean “Hiding information about Obamacare” they are trying to do different things. It is understandable the Democrats might want to hide information about how bad it is, or the Republicans about how good it is, nut why would people who have tried to repeal it thirty odd times and make campaigning against it a feature of election strategy hide anything that makes it look bad? they want to persuade the public that they are doing the right thing. It doesn’t make any sense.

Although still a melodramatic comparison, I nonetheless think Oswald Mosley would be a better fit than Winston Churchill.

(Oh, did I just Godwin the thread?)

“Didn’t the first coming result in Sid Vicious?”

    Don’t forget Margret Thatcher too.

Franz Liebkind: You know, not many people know zis, but der F¸hrer was a terrific dancer.

Max Bialystock: Really? Gee, we didn’t know that, did we, Leo?

Leo Bloom: No, we sure didn’t.

Franz Liebkind: THAT’S BECAUSE YOU WERE TAKEN IN BY THE BBC! Filthy British lies! But did they ever say a bad word about Winston Churchill? CHURCHILL!

Franz Liebkind: With his cigars, and his brandy, and his ROTTEN paintings! ROTTEN! Hitler, there was a painter! He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! Two coats!

Played by ? Obama is Hitler !

I have a radical view on Adolph Hitler — there was only one Hitler and he’s been dead for a long time.

Second coming of Churchill, eh? So she wants to emulate the job he did as First Lord of the Admiralty in WW1. Is she planning another Gallipoli?

I like the Mosley comparison, but I’ll withhold judgement until I see her try and lead a march in jackboots down through a working class neighbourhood. It might be just what the campaign needs.

  9. Crudely Wrott says

Truth is, Liz is channeling Churchill.

Since she hasn’t the chops to win this election on her own (unless she greases into office on the lard of Wyoming’s fierce, woefully outdated and now slowly fading dedication to all things Rethuglican) she is following a bit of sage counsel from ol’ Winston:

To jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war.

Out West you call her a “jaw-jacker”. Only in polite company, of course.

I think the real gem in the piece is her stance on Syria – she’d vote against intervention because Obama doesn’t have a definitive plan or goals. Because the “we’ll be hailed as liberators” and “the oil will pay for the war” strategies served her father so well.

    Re Whheydt @ #9

Actually, the strategic thinking behind the Gallipoli campaign was quite good. Unfortunately, the British High Army Command placed the incompetent Ian Hamilton in charge of the operation, which he proceeded to totally botch, much like McClellan botched the Peninsula Campaign and Lucas botched the Anzio operation. As Napoleon once opined, the men are nothing, the Man is everything.

  12. Ichthyic says

    Obama is Hitler !

don’t even joke about that. So tired of idiots comparing anyone they don’t like to Hitler.

go kill 6 million people, attempt global genocide, THEN compare yourself to friggen Hitler.

She blamed her opponent for the publicity surrounding her embarrassing fishing license gaffe.

of course she blamed her opponent. because personal responsibility is the mantra of tea party candidates like Liz.

    oh, wait…

“I think her father needs to take her duck hunting.”

Upland game birds, not ducks. Assholeciate SCotUS justices go duck hunting; problematic needtogetshotintheface types get invited to the canned pheasant shoots.
