More Bigots Endorse Russia’s Anti-Gay Law

Isn’t it funny how the religious right claims so fervently that they don’t hate gay people and don’t care what anyone does in private, they only oppose same-sex marriage and such, yet they’re falling all over themselves praising the Russian law that puts people in prison just for advocating equality. Here’s Rick Scarborough and Kris Mineau of the Massachusetts Family Institute going after Obama for criticizing that law:

It should be obvious by now that the Christian right bigots are green with envy at Russia being able to do what they can’t do here because of that pesky First Amendment. If they could, they’d do it in a heartbeat — all while still screaming about how censored and persecuted they are, of course.

According to Mineau, Obama’s opposition to the Russian law means that “if you or I oppose same-sex marriage, we are immoral.”

No, under the First Amendment, you are free to oppose same-sex marriage. What would be illegal under the 1st Amendment (and arguably immoral to the extent that the Bill of Rights enshrines basic human rights) is passing a law that prevents gays from advocating for their right to marry.

Of course, the wingnuts have never understood that freedom of speech thingie.

Hopefully none of us will live to see the day when a far right Christian extremists is able established a “Godly” dictatorship in America and throw the constitution out the window. Not only he pass something similar to the anti gay laws in Russia, we can be certain he’d do much worse.

It’s always unsurprising to see that the same KKKristianist ReiKKKwing Assholes that so hated repression of religion (an acquired trait) in the old COMMIE Russia have no problem with repression of teh gay in the new and improved TSARIST Russia.

    Bigots AND hypocrites.

    I dunno,

Obama’s opposition to the Russian law means that “if you or I oppose same-sex marriage, we are immoral.”

I think Mineau has pretty much hit it on the head there.

    Damn, tag fail.

Obama’s opposition to the Russian law means that “if you or I oppose same-sex marriage, we are immoral.”

is what I meant to post.

“if you or I oppose same-sex marriage, we are immoral.”

Oh, I mostly agree with that part (at least when they lie and obfuscate in order to do so … I’m not so sure that simply being against it is immoral in and of itself). But that wasn’t the point Obama was making

Two other figures who have come out to praise Putin: Vic Eliason of VCY America and David Barton of David Barton fame. The former praised Putin’s anti-gay laws, the latter praised his alleged attempt to teach Christianity in Russian public schools.

I really wish they would all just MOVE to Russia.

Maybe we could arrange some kind of exchange with Russia. We’ll take their gays if they take our wingnuts. I see it as a win-win scenario.

Is it time to get out some old “America: Love It Or Leave It” and “If You Think Russia Is So Great, Then Go There” bumper stickers?

Sheesh, I finally understand Archie Bunker!

  10. says

You’d think Barton wouldn’t be happy with Putin supposedly putting Christianity into Russian schools, since it will be Russian \Orthodox Christianity, not American “God’s gonna suck us up with his cosmic vacuum cleaner!” Christianity.
