Fischer: Obama Was Photoshopped Into War Room

Bryan Fischer has yet another wildly ridiculous theory, that President Obama was photoshopped into that famous picture of the war room the night of the raid to catch Osama Bin Laden. Seriously, Bryan? It’s pretty easy to identify when an image has been photoshopped, you know. Do you really think no one would have thought to check that by now?

Was it Fischer or someone else (so many wingnut morons, so little time) who opined that, because Hillary had her hand over her mouth in the picture (supposedly indicating “horror”), she is unfit to be president?

  2. DLC says

what’s disturbing is, a certain percentage of the population of the United States will believe him. Not because his assertion makes any sense, but because they wish to believe any bad thing about Obama.

I suspect that examining the metadata from any publicly available copy of the image will indicate that it’s been processed with Photoshop. That doesn’t mean it’s been faked, just that the tool has been used in post processing — cropping, resizing, adjusting brightness and contrast, etc.

Fischer’s claim, of course, is just silly. How hard would it be for the all-powerful tyrant Obama to call a bunch of people together and have a picture taken?

I thought what you meant jokingly was is it really Fischer in the video or has he been greenscreened and dubbed. Of course, Occam’s razor would assess that Fischer is quite capable of saying something this absurd all by himself.

Brayton was referring to the fact that if someone did take a picture that Obama was not in, and then added him in, there are a number of ways to detect this sort of manipulation. It is very difficult to do this and not leave detectable artifacts behind.

Fischer’s claim has nothing to do with EXIF data or anything like that. Rather, one of Obama’s aides Reggie Love said in an interview that he spent much of the day playing cards with Obama on the day of the raid since there were large chunks of time during which nothing was happening that was relevant to DC.

Fischer has then jumped to his typical idiotic conclusion that this means Obama was *never* in the situation room and, therefore, the image must be photoshopped.

The funny thing is Reggie Love said that he and Obama were playing cards with the White House photographer, s presumably Fischer must think the entire photograph is a pastiche since the photographer–like Obama–must have been too busy playing cards to take the photo.

All that’s missing was for Fischer to claim that you can tell because of the pixels and that he’s seen many photoshops in his time.

His explanation doesn’t even make sense, his presumed reason for it even happening. Its much easier to photoshop someone out of a picture than into one, so wouldn’t the stipulation be if it went bad to photoshop him out, but go ahead and do the or thing anyway? (would that even matter? if it went bad would they have even released any picture? if they released a picture without Obama in it…how would that have served in any way to distance Obama from it anyway? The Fiscers of the world would have just said the fact that he wasn’t there proves he’s a bad leader. I don’t see what there is to gain, even in the fantasy world Fiscer lives in.)

  7. colnago80 says

I doubt that Fischer really believes it. He is just a fuckken liar pandering to his sycophants.

  8. Chiroptera says

I didn’t watch the video, so I have to ask: where does he think Obama really was? Reading a children’s book?

  9. dan4 says

@2: Yes, it was Fischer whos said that.

@9: As Brian Cammell@6 mentioned, playing cards all day.

Or, you know, take the picture, have him get up and leave the room, and then take another picture.

I find it deeply troubling that there are people either stupid enough or sufficiently blinded by a need to believe bad things about the President that they actually get taken in by this kind of bullshit. Sadly, I see people posting stuff equally or even more moronic as this on facebook pretty much daily.

This rumor has been going around since the picture was made public. It’s based on the fact that the angle of Obama’s face makes it appear that he is looking in a different direction than the rest of the people in the picture. This is actually a common problem with special effects shots. Because the actors don’t know where exactly the effect will be, they don’t know how to react to it properly. It might also be explained by Obama looking in a slightly different direction than the rest of the people in the picture, which is hardly a criminal act.

  12. alanb says

This claim has been going around the wingnutosphere for quite some time. Here is an article by Mara Zebest that Fischer is probably cribbing from. Mara is the great photoshop expert who explained to us why the long form birth certificate was a clear fake.

  13. says

Reggie Love is also the aide that many in the wingnutisphere allege is Obama’s lover, so I’m amazed Fischer didn’t imply that “playing cards” is a euphemism for teh gay sex.

Fischer’s entire claim doesn’t make sense. If the raid had gone south, Obama would have been stuck with the blame whether he’d been in the war room or not. Carter’s failed attempt to rescue the Iranian hostages being Exhibit A. In fact, if it had failed, I doubt the White House would have released any photos, so it would hardly have mattered.

Of course, on Planet Wingnuttia, making sense is never a priority. All that matters is that it fits their narrative that Obama had to be dragged kicking and screaming into approving the raid, because he’s a gay atheist Muslim coward, except for when he’s a ruthless dictator.

    Here’s the part that I don’t understand.

Let’s just say for a moment that Obama wasn’t actually there when Bin Laden was killed. Wouldn’t it be easier to call everyone in and retake a picture with him in it, than to Photoshop him in? I mean, he’s the president, if he told everyone in that picture to meet up in the war room again, they would say, “What time.”

  16. says

    @ Jason

The idea is to make Obama look as bad and nefarious as possible. Simply getting a bunch of people together in a room for a picture isn’t evil enough for Fischer.

Is there a term for the direct opposite of Occam’s Razor? The conspiracy nuts seem to go looking for the most complex and improbable explanation for everything.

At the time I remarked to a friend that Obama had a really tiny head (aka a pinhead) in that picture … or maybe the general sitting next to him had an unusually large head. The only moral to the story is that some people have small heads and some have big heads.

  20. says

He wasn’t in that room. He couldn’t have been. He’s such an evil totalitarian despot with plans within plans that he was on the mission. The perfect cover. Typical Obama! Who do you think tried to sabotage it by crashing that helicopter? And he couldn’t even do that right! Typical Obama!

I have thousands of images on my hard drive of groups of folks who were posed for a photo with some substantial fraction of the group looking somewhere other than my direction.

What I can’t understand is why Brainless Fischer doesn’t sell gold, or would that be musclin’ in on Glennie Blek’s turf?

That’s Dennis Markuze, aka David Mabus violating his probation once again.

  24. says

This is pretty much normal. The conspiracy theory not only lacks any evidence, but it makes no sense to begin with. It requires Obama to be both an evil genius and a drooling idiot at the same time.

He traitorously took sole credit AND traitorously revealed the identity of the SEAL team that did it. I’ve heard both. Consistently is not one of their hobgoblins.

I am really at a loss as to why not being there would make him look bad. If he were on a flight or had to speak at some previous engagement or or or… so what? I can even see it as good strategy; don’t break pattern, so if any other intelligence service is watching, they won’t expect anything.
