West: ‘Marxist’ Obamacare Leads to Muslim Takeover

Diana West is one of those Worldnutdaily columnists who loves to play Wingnut Madlibs, tossing together as many totally unrelated but scary buzzwords and catchphrases together as she can. Columns like this one are the result, weaving together Marxism, health care reform, the Muslim Brotherhood and Anthony Weiner.

Nationalized health care was one of the first programs enacted by the Bolsheviks after they seized power in 1917. Nearly a century later, the U.S. enacted “Obamacare.”

Who won the Cold War again? This is one of the questions I work over in my new book, “American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character” (St. Martin’s Press). Can we realistically claim liberty and free markets triumphed over collectivism when today there is only a thin Senate line trying to fend off Obamacare’s totalitarian intrusions into citizens’ lives? We see perhaps a dozen or so patriots led by conservative ace Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, gallantly mustering forces to defund further enforcement of this government behemoth aborning. (Call your senators and ask them to join – or tell you why they didn’t at the next town hall.) How can we maintain that the republic endured when a centralized super-state has taken its place?

So, once more, who really won the Cold War? The question is better framed when we realize that the battleground where the Free World met Marx was also psychological. Consciously or not, we struggled against an insidious Marxist ideology that was always, at root, an assault on our nation’s character…

But don’t worry. We “won” the Cold War. Obamacare, here we come. At this rate, we’ll declare “victory” in the so-called war on terror and, before you know it, become a leading outpost of the caliphate.

Dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria.

I know, the long con and all that. I just wish they had some sense of perspective and history. That our current president is center-right, that capitalism and the Cold War doesn’t mean that robber baronism triumphed. This should fail every single subject under the social science umbrella.

I, for one, welcome our new Marxist Muslim overlords. (Oh, come on — someone had to say it.)

    A bit more seriously:

This is one of the questions I work over in my new book

and I have no doubt she leaves it bruised and bleeding on the sidewalk, but no closer to the truth.

“Comrade Lenin! The plan for LeninCare is complete! We’re going to get people who don’t already have capitalist health insurance from their capitalist employers to purchase health insurance from primarily capitalist corporations to pay capitalist doctors and primarily capitalist hospitals, who use medical products from capitalist companies.”
    “Mmmm, sweet, sweet Marxism.”

If she would prefer to see health care through a capitalistic lens, tell her that a single-payer system is just the government adoption of a Walmart strategy to lower costs.

  5. Robert B. says

But we don’t have a single payer system. We don’t even have the option of government health insurance, something that even centrist Obama wanted but couldn’t push through Congress. Obamacare is just the health version of the existing laws on auto insurance, except with more standardization and fewer teeth.

    What a lot of questions

Who won the Cold War again?

    America

Can we realistically claim liberty and free markets triumphed over collectivism when today there is only a thin Senate line trying to fend off Obamacare’s totalitarian intrusions into citizens’ lives?

    Yes, yes you can

How can we maintain that the republic endured when a centralized super-state has taken its place?

You can just say its a centralised super republic

    Next!

Every time a wingnut calls Obamacare “Marxist”, an angel must commit suicide. What in the name of Zeus is Marxist about a system that encourages people to buy private health insurance? Do we even need to mention at this point that this idea was originally cooked up by the Heritage Foundation? The only excuse conservatives have for opposing Obamacare at this point is pure spite. I just wish they would admit it instead of screeching about how their own idea is suddenly “Marxist” because a democrat signed it into law.

Why do I suspect that all of this was just recovered from moldy archives of the 60s campaign against Medicare? Just change the name and you’re there — I’ve read transcripts of Reagan’s Medicare recording that just switched “Obama” for “Medi” and you could probably get that printed in most of the Right’s house organs.

Shame on the United States for taking nearly a century to get around to it and for still ending up with a pale shadow of the public health care Russians enjoyed for decades.

  10. felidae says

And that notorious commie Kaiser Bill instituted universal health care in late 19th century Germany as part of his marxist plot to destroy Christianity!

  11. freehand says

I was hoping to be arguing with conservatives about the best way to pay for medical care and other issues as I entered my dotage. Instead, I am confronted with folks who use atheist and Muslim interchangeably, and conflate Socialist, Fascist, and liberal. Sigh.
    .
“I think single payer universal health insurance is the most fair, simplest, and cheapest way to go…”
    “That would be ungood.”
“Um… could you be more specific?”
    “That would be plus ungood.”
