Peterson: Obama Trying to Take Power From the White Man

Jesse Lee Peterson, the astonishingly far right preacher and Sean Hannity buddy who thinks women should not have the right to vote, gave a talk last year to the John Birch Society in which he said that President Obama and his “angry black female” wife want to “take power away from the white man and give it to people who [want] handouts, with socialism mentalities.”

The whole thing was just weird. Of Michelle Obama he said, “We have an angry black female in control and if you want to know what an angry black female can do to you, go to the Post Office.” WTF?

To be fair, I have often said that if you want someone bawled out good and proper, you should get a black woman to do it for you. If they REALLY need taking down a peg, get a Jamaican woman to do it.

Apparently he’s afraid some angry black female is gonna break his package? (Postal reference.)

There seems to be a meme in the racistsphere that the USPS’s main functions are to make money and employ blacks. Since they aren’t necessarily doing the former, ergo it is the latter’s fault. For example, see (WARNING: extremely racist site, and also rather incoherent), United States Postal Service (USPS) Make Money? No — It’s a Job Program for Black People:

The moral imperative of our age is to sit back and watch Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the USPS lose hundreds of billions and not notice the people employed by each organization at rates that are immensely greater than the private sector, who are incapable of being responsible for anything negative in this world.

That the USPS is on the verge of insolvency isn’t the crisis; that it is on the verge of insolvency, which could jeopardize black peoples — who are grossly misrepresented statistically in USPS positions — livelihood is the crisis…

And yet no one dares ask if the USPS insolvency has any correlation with it being nothing more than a job programs for black people… same with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

As far as I know, minorities are heavily employed by the USPS. Ironically, the above link quotes from an article (with a dead link) which explains why:

“There’s a long tradition of the public sector being more friendly, or less hostile, to African-American workers,” said Robert Zieger, emeritus professor of history at the University of Florida in Gainesville. “The Post Office is the best example.”

African-Americans make up about 20 percent of U.S. Postal Service workers — and are the majority in some urban centers, representing 75 percent to 80 percent of the 5,000 letter carriers in the Chicago area, according to Mack Julion, president of the Chicago branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The above is possibly from U.S. Post Office Job Cuts Threaten Black Middle Class. Eyeballing other Generalisimo Google™ results, that seems to the origin of the racistsphere going off the deep end this time.

Um, if http://factfinder2.census.gov/ really is the site for US census data and I’m searching it I get

    Total population -311591919
Identifying as black or African American alone – 39189528
Identifying as black or African American and some other race -42533817

Which gives the percentage of African-Americans (including those who also identify with another race) as about 26%.

Why are they under represented in the US postal service by six percent?

OMG, Michelle Obama’s going to sell me stamps! The horror!!

  6. grumpyoldfart says

It sounds racist to have a white speaker say that Obama hates white people so they put out feelers for a black speaker and coached him to make the claim. Can’t be racist ‘cos he’s black too.

  7. busterggi says

Jesse Lee Peterson – you are taking the job and power from a potential white male preacher. kindly stand up for your principles and resign immediately.

  8. says

    matty1 @ 9:
There is a smaller percentage of black USPS employees than their corresponding share of the population because they don’t need such menial jobs as postal worker when they can instead take the free handouts associated with having a job as a postal worker you see. It makes perfect sense!

  9. gertzedek says

She’ll…deliver my mail at extremely reasonable rates, even to residential addresses? Seriously, I’m not sure what post office these people are going to, but I’ve generally had as good or better experiences with USPS than UPS or Fedex (especially UPS…by G-d, I hate UPS).

  10. F [is for failure to emerge] says

“take power away from the white man”

Sooooo… we are admitting that white men have disproportionate power relative to other groups? Why, that’s astonishing, Uncle Ruckus.

  11. Pen says

It occurs to me that Jesse must be a bit of lightning rod for anger amongst the black people in his entourage.

  12. doublereed says

Isn’t he like a self-described misogynist? Like I’m pretty sure he actually thinks women are just plain evil.

  13. skemono says

I am reminded of Bill O’Reilly complaining some six years ago,

Let me repeat that. America is run primarily by white, Christian men, and there is a segment of our population who hates that, despises that power structure.

Uh, yeah. We dislike that white men have a disproportionate amount of power and control of this country, and want instead equal shares and representation. That’s kinda the theoretical foundation for the country.

  14. jnorris says

Thank you Jesse Lee Peterson for telling everybody about Plan 8 and the USPS. Now we have to go to Pan 9 and NASA.

  15. smrnda says

I have heard that the ‘insolvency’ crisis at the post office is due to laws requiring that the post office have larger than normal requirements for its pension fund. Can’t find a reliable cite on that, but will look.

A reason why some public sector jobs might be less hostile to minority workers is that they tend to be union jobs, where procedures for filing grievances and such exist which can protect workers who, without them, might be unfairly singled out for bad treatment by management.

  16. says

smrnda, here you go. Basically, the federal government sabotaged the USPS by making it prefund healthcare for USPS employees that aren’t born yet, gives them ten years to do it, and won’t let them do anything to increase revenue to fund it.

  17. grepagni says

@matty1 — You are misreading the labels. The 42 million number is “Black or African American alone or in combination with one or more other races.” The total percentage of AAs in the US is then 42.5M/311M *100 = 13.7 percent.

Assuming that the proportion of AA letter carriers is 20%, they are 20/13.7*100 = 1.45 times as likely to work at the post office as the population in general.

  18. caseloweraz says

The odd thing about Jesse Lee Peterson’s outrage is that it’s the way old white men are using their power which is largely creating the need for those handouts (e.g. 50 million people on food stamps.) I say this as an old white man.

  19. Thumper; Atheist mate says

… I have to ask, Mr. Peterson is aware that he is black, right? Because he appears to be full of self-defeating statements motivated by an astonishing level of racially-motivated self-hatred.
