Russian Church Game Kills Pussy Riot Members

This is seriously twisted. The Russian Orthodox Church has released a video game where the aim is to kill the members of Pussy Riot, the punk band sentenced to prison, before they are able to enter a church. And the weapon of choice to kill them? A cross, of course.

A video game was showcased at a recent Russian Orthodox youth festival in Moscow that encourages players to “kill” members of the feminist punk-rock collective Pussy Riot.

In the game, “Don’t Let Pussy Riot Into The Cathedral,” players use an Orthodox cross to snuff out the balaclava-clad women before they enter a domed white church.

The punchline: The name of the game was originally “Inquisition.” How appropriate.

StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return!

If this is the same one as featured on Pharyngula the other day, I think its actually supposed to be a satire.

Which does NOT, of course make it either a good game or a good satire idea but still.

    Yup. Poe’s law applies.

Yeah, like StevoR says, I am pretty sure this is satire. The article claims it was released AT an Orthodox youth festival, but it does not say it was released BY the Orthodox church. Google’s translation of one of the comments (from a commenter called Vlad) reads: “Well done, subtle humor. Watch the background – Sales Church, fatty priests, gift car, absolution for bobla :))) Super”

I am pretty sure this is satire.

Oh yeah. Dude. Did you actually try PLAYING it? The priests are all hideous caricatures. This is obvious satire.

It looks like satire because the game itself is so unserious and cartoony, but then Reuters got a comment from the graphic designer of the game, and she was defensive about the Church and critical of Pussy Riot.

Pfft. Feminists just have no sense of humor about using their own bloody deaths as cheap entertainment.

Not to mention that as a game it is poor.

    Poor.

Ummm… no. The Russian Orthodox Church did NOT release this video game. It did however condemn it it in the strongest possible terms.

But hey, don’t let facts get in the way of a scoring political points when a little slander can work do so much to advance the cause.

Would that be the same Russian Orthodox church hierarchy that got their panties in a bunch over the Pussy Riot band in the first place?

    ?

That Russian Orthodox Church? Yeah, okay, fuck them, fuck their Patriarch, their GOD and their complete fucking lack of a sense of irony. After nearly 90 years of having to hide their own beliefs from the Russian communist gummint, they’re already on witch hunts for people that “desecrate” the cathedrals, built and maintained with blood money they took from the Tsars? Yeah, I got lotsa sympathy for those fucking assholes.

BTW, when trolling, you need to use better bait, dickhead.

I played the online version (still titled Inquisition) and I would be really surprised if the ROC had released this. When you lose, it asks you to pay money for an indulgence to play again. The fancy car and fat cat priests and 70% sale (print too small to read for what) don’t exactly paint a flattering picture of the clergy either.

What would actually happen if they managed to get inside a church?
