Gohmert Fires Up the Rubes

Rep. Louis Gohmert gave a talk recently at a Tea Party rally, telling them that Obama is engaged in a war against Christianity. But most amusingly, he tried to talk about evolution and homosexuality and babbled like the idiot that he is, saying “for someone who believes in evolution, who believe that throughout the history of the universe, and particularly Earth, that people have come together and borne an offspring from different species that has evolved and given us stronger and better species, how does the mating of two males evolve the species upwards? Somebody can send me a letter and help me with that.” Why would anyone bother? You’re too stupid to understand it anyway. People have come together and borne an offspring from different species? WTF?

I believe this is why someone coined the phrase, “That’s not even wrong.”

No wingnut has ever felt the need to understand something in order to criticize it.

Now who can argue with that? We are all indebted to Gabby Gohmert for stating what clearly needed to be said. Not only is it authentic frontier gibberish, it displays courage little seen in this day and age.

… that people have come together and borne an offspring from different species that has evolved and given us stronger and better species, how does the mating of two males evolve the species upwards?

But if homosexuality is so evil, why did Noah bring two of them on the ark?

“people have come together and borne an offspring from different species”

Well, yes. Men are from Mars, women are from Venus. Didn’t you know?

  6. says

how does the mating of two males evolve the species upwards?

Technically speaking, the Bible says that god made Eve out of a piece of Adam. That means that Eve was a clone. Which means Eve was actually a (trans, I’d guess?) woman. Therefore every man who’s ever had sex with a woman has had gay sex and every child who has come from that has advanced the species, temporally at least.

    Your move, Gohmer.

  7. says

And, crap, I messed up the middle bit when I put in the parenthetical. That should read “Eve was actually a man.”

Your High School Biology teacher called, Louis. They said they already sent you a letter, and that letter was F.

Apparently Gohmert has never heard of the concept of “worker bees.”

While Louis is out there doing the hard work of searching for the evolutionary rationale for homosexuality, maybe he could also figure out the evolutionary reason for my prematurely gray hair. Perhaps nature abhors a vacuum of ammonia-based hair dying products?

Is he trying to say that Obama is a hybrid, that whites and blacks are separate species?

“Somebody can send me a letter and help me with that.”

This is half true, somebody could send him a letter however his ignorance is beyond all help.

“people have come together and borne an offspring from different species”

I wonder what species Gohmert’s mother “came together with” to produce him?

  13. Taz says

Beyond the scientific illiteracy, this argument has the same problem as every other reproductive argument against SSM. Why does it apply to gay couples and not childless straight couples?

  14. Larry says

And people like him are allowed to make laws that govern us. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

And man does Gohmert just physically look like an idiot.

  16. suttkus says

Reverse question: What harm does it do to evolution, even Gohmert’s delusional rendition of it, if two men mate?

    Zilch.

Okay, we’re done, except to wonder why they’re so obsessed with male homosexuality all the time.

  17. exdrone says

After a couple of hundred thousand years, human evolution has resulted in Gohmert, so maybe the creationists have a point about entropy, at least as it could be extended to intelligence.

  18. thebookofdave says

people have come together and borne an offspring from different species that has evolved and given us stronger and better species

So, in his idea of evolution, new species emerge from interspecies mating. As if our ancestors fucked pigs to produce humans (explaining the existence of Tea Party rallies, anyway). And he’s appealing to traditional bestiality to prevent his fellows from fucking same-sex pigs. Because that would be an evolutionary dead-end. We are dealing with a principled man and one of the most formidable intellects in the history of the universe (and possibly even Earth).

Once again, how the fuck does this idiot keep getting elected. Our electoral system is very, very broken.

  20. sezme says

C’mon, Doug. Democracy is doing fine in southern Texas. More rubes vote for this guy than any other candidate because they agree with him. It’s scary but true.

  21. Michael Heath says

    sezme writes:

Democracy is doing fine in southern Texas. More rubes vote for this guy than any other candidate because they agree with him. It’s scary but true.

I realize this quip is purposefully snarky, but it can’t be emphasized enough that maximum representation is not the end objective of those who framed our country as a [liberal] democracy. Instead their objective was to create a government that best approached the ‘just governance’ standards laid-out in the Declaration of Independence. Democracy was a method to reach an objective, not an objective itself.

Rep. Gohmert practices a form of politics in direct violation of the standards asserted in the DofI, and a majority of Texas voters in his district support his approach instead; that reveals democracy is far from, “doing fine in southern Texas”.

It should also be noted that “more rubes vote for this guy than any other because they agree him” also has to do with the fact Texas voting districts are gerrymandered to insure that is true for a maximum number of Texas voting districts. So even if maximum representation was the end game in Texas, democracy still fails in there given the lack of representation for so many people in Texas; insuring Texas government continues to privilege white conservative Christians at the expense of all other Texans.
