Gohmert: Latinos Will Join GOP Just Like Black Voters Do

If you had any doubt that Louis Gohmert inhabits an entirely different reality from the rest of us, look at this video he did for the Worldnutdaily. He actually argues that if the Republican Party kills immigration reform it will make Latino voters like them more “just as you’ve had more and more African-Americans realizing” how great the GOP is for them. He does realize that Republicans lost the African-American vote by well over 90% last year, right? Oh, you liberals and your crazy, eggheaded, elitist math.

Yeah, arithmetic is pretty hoity-toity, highbrow stuff.

  2. Mr Ed:

So the GOP outreach relies on the Stockholm Syndrome.

  3. davidct:

It is hard to know what effect this will have. The sad fact is that most Latino’s (at least here in Texas) do not vote. If and when they do it is hard to see much support for the GOP. The GOP might appeal to Catholics on the abortion issue but on every other issue they offer nothing.

  4. Gregory in Seattle:

Reality has a strong liberal bias, and Republicans simply DO NOT agree with liberal biases.

  5. bmiller:

Such a SEXY BEAST is our Gohmert. LOL.

There is a strong social conservative bent to many Mexicans I know, but as the generations turn over, and as the Republican War on the Brown continues, I really doubt this will lead to a huge turnover to the GOP.

  6. holytape:

And by African-Americans, he means the Irish. He sometimes can tell the difference.

  7. holytape:

    * can’t. Damn the lack of an edit button.

  8. Chiroptera:

It’s not math he’s having trouble with. It’s the idea that if you keep punching someone in the face, they aren’t likely to vote for you — that’s what he’s having trouble grasping.

  9. Larry:

And when they don’t, it’s because of the chicago-style politics of Obama, the free stuff they get from the gub’mint, and the funding of Soros that prevented it from happening. It certainly won’t be the toxic sludge spewing from the mouths of every GOPer out there.

  10. theschwa:

I agree. I think Latinos WILL join the GOP just like black voters do: in ever decreasing numbers.

  11. Modusoperandi:

To be fair, he thinks Latinos is a breakfast cereal.

  12. Draken:

Well, George Zimmerman will likely vote GOP in the future.

holytape #6: And by African-Americans, he means the Irish. He sometimes can tell the difference.

Those black Irish make it really confusing.

  14. slc1:

    Re Draken @ #12

    But he’s only 1/2 Hispanic.

  15. dingojack:

SLC – so he’ll vote GOP, but without much enthusiasm.
    Dingo

  16. Michael Heath:

Well, in Mr. Gohmert’s defense, if he sees one black person in a large crowd, that probably sets off his brain’s fear center that the hordes are invading.

  17. Modusoperandi:

Michael Heath, now you’re just being ridiculous. The reason his eyes get wider around black people is because he thinks that since they’re so dark he must be squinting.
On a side note, if you throw a blanket over him, he falls asleep. And if it’s a sheet, he thinks he’s a ghost.

  18. Loqi:

Good to see they’re sticking with the “we’ll get the black vote by convincing them that slavery was a net positive” train of thought. I’m sure it will work just as well with Latinos.

  19. Modusoperandi:

Loqi, now you’re just being ridiculous. Their pitch to latinos is “Vote for us so we can save the country from you people”.

  20. skinnercitycyclist:

I notice Comrade Gohmert is not wearing his flag pin in this video. Why does he hate America?

  21. sezme:

And if it’s a sheet, he thinks he’s a ghost

No, he thinks he’s the Grand Lizard Duke.

  22. dingojack:

I thought if you threw a sheet over Louis ‘Gomer Pyle’ Gohmert he thinks he’s at a KKK necktie party.
    Dingo

  23. birgerjohansson:

A strange detail: He was an officer in JAG, so he cannot be a total dimwit. Presumably his cognitive weirdness is of the mental rigidity type, with selective perception bias, plenty of cognitive dissonance et cetera.

And in his home in Texas, he only associates with o t her wealt hy conservative whites, so it is a near-perfect bubble.

  24. francesc:

    @19 Modusoperandi
At some point, they will change that pitch to “you are almost people, so vote for us as we can save the country from blacks”
