Glenn Beck’s Backup Singer

When he had his show on CNN Headline News, Glenn Beck’s frequent fill-in when he was gone was Joe Pagliarulo, or Joe Pags. Now Joe is guest hosting for Beck again on his own network. I have a bit of history with Joe Pags. I used to talk to his mother online quite a bit (for Gretchen and Sastra, who would know who I’m talking about, his mother is bnyfoofoo) and she’s a very sweet lady. And he used to have a TV show in Lansing, Michigan. In fact, I was scheduled to be on his show to talk about church/state issues the evening of 9/11, but plans obviously changed quickly and I never did go on. Shortly after that, he left Lansing for, IIRC, San Antonio. And I never got the impression that he was really a wingnut, but this video of him guest hosting for Beck certainly suggests otherwise.

Speaking about pro-choice protesters in Texas, he says, “They’ve got a vast communist, socialist agenda; they’ve got a vast anti-freedom, anti-American agenda; they’ve got a vast anti-Christian, anti-Constitutional agenda.” Seriously, Joe? You have to know that’s just idiotic bullshit. Rick Santorum then offers the usual blather about “Saul Alinsky tactics,” as if Alinsky did anything different than what Pags and Santorum are doing in this very video. This is nothing more than red meat for morons.

  1. Mr Ed says

    WAR IS PEACE
    FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
    IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

    And now pro-choice is anti-freedom

  2. Chiroptera says

    They’ve got a vast communist, socialist agenda…

Yeah? Well, the pro-choice side has a…national socialist agenda. HAHAHAHA Get it? HAHAHA

    But seriously:

    -

    …they’ve got a vast anti-freedom, anti-American agenda; they’ve got a vast anti-Christian, anti-Constitutional agenda.

All that sounds like the Right Wing. Including the anti-Christian part: remember, historically whenever Christians have been burned at the stake, it’s been other Christians doing the burning.

Chiroptera – while I agree with you*, just to be really, really pedantic, saying “historically whenever Christians have been burned at the stake, it’s been other Christians doing the burning”, is a little like saying ‘in the largely English speaking country of England when people were hung, drawn and quartered, it tended to be people who were considered traitors who were being killed in this way and it tended to be English speaking people who were doing it’.**

It’s not really as meaningful as you think.

    * A variant on our ol’ favourite ‘I’m not a bigot but…’
** Burning at the stake was the punishment for ‘crimes’ such as blasphemy and heresy. These are associated with religious belief and since the majority of Europeans religious belief would place them in the category of ‘Christian’ that both victim an perpetrator were Christians is hardly surprising.

or Gretchen and Sastra, who would know who I’m talking about, his mother is bnyfoofoo

Any relation to Honey Boo Boo?

I remember back when I was a kid Red Meat for Morons won the battle of the bands at the local church.

    donalbain –

Yes. Gretchen, Sastra and I used to be ops in a channel there way back in the mid-triassic period, as was bnyfoofoo. Very nice lady.

  7. donalbain says

Thought so. I recognised the bnyfoofoo name and Sastra and Gretchen. I always liked bnyfoofoo.

    *pedantry alert*

“Backup singer”? Not if he replaced Beck when he was away … a backup singer is there at the same time as the lead. The word you want is “understudy”.
