Gilbert: Obama Used NSA Data to Steal 2012 Election

Joel Gilbert is the right wing propagandist who made the documentary Dreams From My Real Father, which claims that Obama’s real father was communist Frank Marshall Davis. So he’s no stranger to bizarre conspiracy theories. And he says Obama used NSA data to steal the 2012 election:

Gilbert: Obama could have used the NSA. Don’t forget, there was that incredible database that the Obama campaign used that had all these details on everybody, and they were able to have this amazing, I don’t think they Googled everybody in the country to create a database. I have to assume that the Obama campaign used the NSA data to categorize and reach out to a large group of potential voters.

Gilbert: A lot of it has to do with voter fraud, it has to do with manipulating the system. They were very confident that they would win this last election.

Boyles: Did Barack Obama vote or not vote? I’ve read different theories that he didn’t vote.

Gilbert: Well, exactly. For the first time ever… Usually you see a candidate, the president of the United States, you see him voting on Election Day. First time ever, and this revealed their game plan, Michelle voted two months an advance on the absentee ballot, and this was their game, Obama voted a week in advance on the early voting.

Boyles: Yes, because usually when I was a kid, you saw Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, you saw Jack Kennedy in Hyannis…

Gilbert: Well, absolutely, you saw Bush, Clinton. Going to vote is part of the ritual. This was their game plan, was to stack the election through absentee and early voting. So, Michelle said, ‘I’m too busy, I’m a single mother, so I voted early.’ In reality, this was a signal to their followers, for everybody to get an absentee ballot. And I think a large percentage of those on absentee voted again on Election Day.

Boyles: You do?

Gilbert: Absolutely. So in reality, about 25 percent of the electorate voted prior to Election Day. Romney actually won the election on Election Day. But because they had stacked the vote through absentee ballots, through dead people, homeless, disabled people, people voting two, three times, I believe that’s how they knew they would win the election, along with the fact that they knew they had suppressed the organizing of the conservatives through the IRS.

He has no evidence for any of this, of course, but in wingnut circles that’s actually considered a positive thing. Baseless speculation is so much better to them.

He thinks homeless and disabled people should be prevented from voting. This guy is past wrong and moving towards cartoon villain territory.

When I was a kid I like star gazing, trying to find the various constellations that ancient people saw was fun. Seems Gilbert is fairly good a connecting random dots and seeing the boogie man.

What it does do, however, is demonstrate how secret surveillance contributes to erosion trust in the government. Although, clearly in this case, there wasn’t much trust present to begin with.

And as Gilbert is also responsible for manufacturing such bizarre rumors as ‘Obama Had a Nose Job!’ and ‘Obama Wears a Muslim Ring!’, it shouldn’t surprise how he manages to mangle even his few facts here:

    1) Michelle Obama didn’t vote absentee “two months in advance.” She mailed her absentee ballot on October 15, less than three weeks before the election.

    2) George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Laura Bush all voted absentee in 2008.

    3) The Obamas are registered to vote in Illinois. So voting early or absentee makes a lot of sense. Especially when they’re available options. And in an age of social media, when you can tweet pictures of yourself voting early, you don’t need to waste time on election day traveling back to your home state, and causing massive delays for people who share your voting location.

    4) *Of course* Presidents back to Truman didn’t utilize early voting. Because IT WASN’T AVAILABLE.

This is the same conspiracy theory the right has been spouting since Rove’s meltdown, just with the NSA scandal grafted onto it. They will never be able to grasp how they cold have lost to a black man twice. This is their way way of coping.

Hate to burst your bubble Gilbert, but the NSA isn’t needed for that. Both parties already know the population’s voting preferences and opinions down to the granularity of streets and probably even households. Highly effective gerrymandering requires the parties have exactly the sort of data you are worried about. And that practce is a lot older than the NSA.

Both parties already know the population’s voting preferences and opinions down to the granularity of streets and probably even households.

To be fair, the Republicans are probably still looking at data and voting preferences to try to figure out how Dewey was cheated by Truman.

d.c.wilson, #6: They will never be able to grasp how they cold have lost to a black man twice.

You know what? We have two political parties: one is competent and not built on an ideology of harming people on purpose. The other, incompetent and clearly malevolent. Yet not only are elections close, the Party of Evil actually wins!

    I still can’t grasp that.

  9. Moggie says

I have to wonder what would motivate any sane individual to vote twice. If you get away with it, you’ve almost certainly made no damn difference. If you don’t get away with it, you’re facing serious legal consequences. In reality, you’d probably get a significant amount of such fraud only if the votes were bought, with immediate, tangible rewards for the voters to make the risk worthwhile (cash in your pocket, basically). Party workers handing out wads of cash to thousands of voters… how could this possibly pass unnoticed?

  10. lldayo says

@5 – Not to mention that if Obama flew back to Illinois to vote instead the Republicans would throw a fit over him wasting tax payers money instead of utilizing the early vote option.

  11. dingojack says

    Obama seemed confident of winning?
Firstly – Well what would expect a candidate to say, moron? ‘Gee vote for me I’m almost certain to lose’? And I’m pretty sure Rmoney was pretty certain god (or at least the party allegedly representing god) was gonna sew up the election for him. (All this ‘shucks I didn’t really want to run’ stuff is just post-facto bullshit, and everybody knows it).
Secondly – shit, i was predicting Obama would win months before the election. Was this because I was magic? Was it because I tapped into some demonic future-seeing power? No, it was what the betting markets were predicting, (as I reported, regularly, at the time) and it’s what Nate Silver was predicting (based on the polling taking place at the time). Everybody seemed to have known it except numbnut Wingnuts like yourself and the FAUX ‘news’ team.
Perhaps if you took your head outta of your rectum occasionally and off Internet trash sites like UnskewedPolls once in awhile you might (unlikely, but statistically possible) get a clue.

    Sheesh.

  12. Skip White says

He left out the part where Obama used his Magic Time Machine (TM) to go back in time and vote for himself millions of times, then went further back in time, became his own father, then faked the moon landing.

  13. John Hinkle says

You could tell Obama knew he’d win. He didn’t even have a concession speech prepared.

    Oh wait…

  14. says

They do cross out your name off the list when the absentee ballot arrives, or when you vote in person, right? This means that if it’s already crossed off and you try to vote in person or the absentee ballot arrives, your name gets put in the “error/potential fraud” file.
Morons. Willfully ignorant, malevolent morons. Ironically, thinking they’re fighting the good fight. Not that I fight the good fight. I jello wrestle, mostly. I’ve said too much.

  15. Chiroptera says

Why do the Republicans think voter fraud is so rampant? You’d think with so many of them in jail for voter registration fraud, they’d realize that the system pretty much works.
