Feder: America Now ‘Doomed to Extinction’

Don Feder of the World Congress of Families (well, some families; no icky gay people allowed) isn’t going to let his fellow wingnuts get all the attention for their hysterical overreaction to the Supreme Court’s marriage rulings. He says we’re now “doomed to extinction.”

Writing for the majority, Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy – Ronald Reagan’s most tragic mistake, surpassing even Bush ’41 – said the wicked and iniquitous DOMA “places same-sex couples in an unstable position of being in second-tier marriages. The differentiation demeans the couple, whose moral and sexual choices the Constitution protects….”

Of course, the Constitution does no such thing. It no more protects “sexual choices” (under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments) than it creates a sphere of privacy (under the First Amendment) which permits abortion-on-demand. A society incapable of differentiating between a family and a perversion is doomed to extinction.

Really? it doesn’t protect sexual choices or a right to privacy? Okay, let’s pass a law saying that Don Feder can no longer have sex with his wife without an audience and video recording devices. What, that’s not allowed? But you don’t have any constitutional right to privacy or making your own sexual choices. You just said so. Oh wait, that only applies to people having sex in ways you don’t approve of. How convenient for you.

    There, fixed it for you.

Well in the long run everything is doomed to extinction so I guess he's right about that.

Oh wait, Don Feder's NOT talking about our Sun ballooning into a red giant and destroying Earth or the Heat Death of our cosmos?

Feder's talking about teh Ghaaaayyyyyysssss!! Getting, well, treated the same as other human beings?

As though that's going to be an evolutionary and social problem?

(Points and laughs at teh Burning Stoopid.)

D’oh! Sorry about the blockquote fail there. ‘Sposed to only be the first line in quotes.

(Editing capability sure would be handy here. *Hint.* Sigh.)

I’d be very surprised by outright “extinction” (except that I wouldn’t be around to see it), but a post-Soviet style break up is very possible. That’s the optimistic scenario for when the money runs out.

Otherwise the models are Yugoslavia or Rwanda.

Not over this one issue, but it would be in the mix.

It has always pissed me off when someone tries to define “family” with their own idea of a what a family should be, almost always involving children. Especially things like “family programming” on television or “family restaurants.”

My family is myself, my wife and our dogs. The purpose of my family is not procreation, you assholes. If you don’t think that qualifies for your definition of “family” you can go fuck yourself, “World Congress of Families.” That goes for families that include gay couples, too. My family and my marriage are what I want them to be, not what yours is to you. Mind your own fucking business.

    The real truth is:

A society that lets religous kooks like Don Feder run around doing what they want is doomed to extinction.

We see it every day. Iran, Somalia, and Afghanistan are the most obvious. Pakistan is barely hanging on. And in one year, Egypt was run into the ground by a sincere Moslem theocrat.

A hallmark of civilization is keeping religious extremists on a short lease so they don’t wreck everything.

I loved his guitar work on The Eagle’s Hotel California!

    What? That was Don Felder?

    Never mind!

  8. dingojack says

I agree with Raven – It’s important for societies not to give extremists leases any longer than 6 months, a year at the outside (and definitely no pets), sitting tenants are a real drag.

Seriously, it really is important to keep extremists of all types from having any kind of real power. Keeping them on a short leash is a good rule of thumb.

Here’s what I wish: All these nutcases people who insist that America faces imminent doom should be given 30 days to pack up and get out, or be enjoined to forever shut their pie-holes.

Especially things like “family programming” on television or “family restaurants.”

My town used to have a business that billed itself as “a family funeral home”. It creeped me out every time I saw the sign.

  11. John Horstman says

@10: We have a “family funeral home” – ours means family-owned and -operated i.e. local business that’s been run by the same family for a couple generations, like “family farm” and unlike “family entertainment”, which would not be a term applied to the performing family in the Aristocrats joke.

  12. dan4 says

“it doesn’t protect…a right to privacy?”

I can’t believe that I’m actually defending Don Friggin’ Feder, but I think he’s not making a general “there is no right to privacy” argument. What I think he’s saying is that specifically legalized abortion shouldn’t be seen as falling under that right.

So is ‘merica “doomed to extinction” or “the greatest country that has ever existed, ordained by Gawd himself”…I keep forgetting.
