Deace Fantasizes About Killing Jason Collins

Jason Collins coming out of the closet has really driven the bigots crazy, hasn’t it? They’re so infuriated by it that they’re openly fantasizing about assaulting and even killing him if they could, while completely ignoring the reality of how homophobia has affected him and every other gay person. Here’s lunatic Steve Deace on his radio show:

He then turned right around, did a fundraiser with Michelle Obama and now is doing LGBT promotion, and that’s really what this in the end is all about. If a guy was having sex with your daughter for years while he was also having sex with other guys, asked her to marry him, then called off the wedding but then said he wanted to stay engaged to get married at some point in the future, and engaged in this behavior for six, seven, eight years, hey dad, would that guy be a trailblazing hero to you? No, he’d be a real good reason why maybe we have to have a waiting period to buy a handgun, that’s what he’d be. He’d be an indentation from the side of his face, permanently ensconced on my knuckles, that’s what he’d be to most dads. That’s what Jason Collins did to his girlfriend, but he’s a hero, when Jason Collins does it, we call him a hero.

First of all, he has no idea who Jason Collins was or wasn’t having sex with, ever and under any circumstances. More importantly, he is blissfully and conveniently ignoring the fact that what drove Collins to date women and get engaged in the first place was the homophobia of bigots like him. It’s what has always driven men to get proverbial beards in this manner. If you really think that’s a bad thing — and it almost always is — then you should be all for ending anti-gay bigotry and allowing men to be openly gay without punishing them for it.

Did that guy just support gun control?

I suspect that Jason Collins who is a very large man (height = 7′, weight = 255 lbs) , could beat the shit out of Steve Deace.

Actually comments like that are a real good reason for having a waiting period to buy a handgun. The period being until you can make a convincing case you no longer want to shoot a total stranger because you don’t like what you saw about him on TV.

Well, it’s interesting how the old timey patriarchial notions that fathers need to protect their daughters honor seems to come up an awful lot.

But since Deace asks: I would hope that I would, with tears in my eyes, express my sorrow that he was under such pressure from homophobic bigotry to go through something like this.

Actually, for creating the environment where people like Collins felt pressured to engage in behavior that hurt his fiancee, his fiancee’s father (since that is important in patriarchial fantazizing), and Collins himself, it’s probably Deace that should be thankful for waiting periods.

It’s occasions like this I reserve my “I’m incredulous that you could possibly be so stupid that I have to connect the dots for you” glare for. If homophobia wasn’t a widespread cultural phenomenon, people like Collins wouldn’t feel the need to feign heterosexuality. Heck, there are asexuals out there who get ostracized for allegedly being gay simply because they don’t express enough interest in the opposite sex. The answer, of course, is to stop the orientation-based stigmatization. Some gay people engage in this sort of deception precisely because our backwards culture stigmatizes their sexual honesty. We like Collins because he stood against that stigma and announced his true orientation. We hope this inspires courage in others to stand against homophobia and live true to themselves instead of living a lie like the homophobes want them to.

Homophobes like Deace celebrate sham, loveless marriages as a pillar of society and a sacred duty, then suddenly they act shocked, appalled, and betrayed that someone felt pressured enough by them to go into one. Which is it, Deace? Is being openly gay wrong or is hiding homosexuality in a sham marriage closet wrong?

In Deace’s case, that will be a very, very long time.
