Cliff Claven Wants Allen West to Spread His Seed

When I saw that John Ratzenberger, the actor who played Cliff Claven on Cheers, was going to appear at last weekend’s Faith and Freedom Coalition conference, I kind of chuckled. Turns out he was there to introduce Allen West and his comments were a bit…unusual.

“We should really take something from his gene pool and put it everywhere across this great country,” Ratzenberger said. “A real American hero, my friend, Allen West.”

It was not immediately clear if Ratzenberger intended for West to personally distribute his DNA or had some other method in mind for sharing the “gene pool.”

You know, it’s a little known fact that a person can spread their gene pool around an entire country merely by trying to hold on to the last fading bit of glory from having been on a TV sitcom a couple decades earlier. No word yet on how Punky Brewster feels about the subject.

Maybe he was never really on the show to begin with. Maybe he was just some homeless drunk guy who wandered onto the set from time to time and spouted meaningless “facts”. Maybe he did the same thing at this conference…

And then Allen West proceeded to ejaculate all over the audience, to roaring cheers.

Hey, now, John Ratzenberger’s been in every Pixar feature ever made (so far) — frequently as a cameo, true, but still….

While I very much disagree with Ratzenberger’s politics, this is too encroaching on elitism for my tastes. Too “who are you and why are you speaking?” Too “shut up and sing.”

That’s not to say he didn’t say something stupid.

You know those stories about how everyone is descended from Genghis Khan because he was so, um, prolific? Before long they will told about Alan West.

Ratzenberger’s career topped out whe he played one of the buried “pigs” in Motel Hell.

Once again Ed tries to insult a celebrity by suggesting that equivalence with some other innocent party is somehow embarrassing. So you don’t like Ratzenberger’s politics. What’s your excuse for a complete asshole to Soleil Moon Frye?

JESUS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! Don’t do that without somesorta warnin’ that it might not be SFSP*.

Cliff was selected for the cast of “Cheers” after an exhaustive search proved that it would be much harder to find someone who would ACT like a total douche.

Heh, I never even knew Cliffy was gay, let alone he had a thing for Allen West. Well more power to them, just as long as they don’t ‘shove it down our throats’.(as wingnuts tend to say).

If I remember correctly, that’s kind of what actually happened. I have this vague memory of reading somewhere that he was on the set as for a one-time bit role and started doing the Cliff thing and they kept him around.
