Corsi: Gay Rights Lead to Snuff Films

The always irrational Jerome Corsi gave a speech recently in which he absurdly claimed that if we give equal rights to gay people, that will lead to pedophilia, bestiality and the legalization of snuff films. Because the Bible says so, or something. “What is to prevent us” from legalizing snuff films, he asks. Seriously? You can’t see the difference? You can’t see why we should treat gay people equally but not let people kill others to get off? Then you’re either stupid or crazy. Take your pick.

The ol’ slippery slope is so slick you can go down the slope of increasing human rights and go up and over the slope of taking away the rights of children, sentient animals and people in general not to abused or murdered.

It’s the wingnuts’ slippery ski jump.

  2. says

“Take my pick?!” “Or” is just too limiting, so I pick “and.” Seriously, Corsi is clearly both stupid AND crazy (unless, of course, he’s just knowingly making shit up because he knows it will get him money).

  3. footface says

I see. So if something is legal, then everything will be?

How have we managed to keep murder illegal for so long?

    It’s a miracle!

  4. says

“pedophilia, bestiality and the legalization of snuff films”

All three of which are presumably not between consenting adults (I should add ‘human’ to that ‘adults’). Does that make a difference???

  5. says

“You can’t see why we should treat gay people equally but not let people kill others to get off? Then you’re either stupid or crazy. Take your pick.”

Those are not mutually exclusive options: with regards to America’s Talibangelicals, there is considerable overlap.

By treating minorities and gays like shit. Do try to keep up, dear.

Back in the early 90s, my friend Yvon and I spent a couple of years trying hard to organize for queer rights in Ontario. This culminated in an attempt, by the then-leftist government of Bob Rae, to pass an omnibus queer rights bill in Ontario, altering seventy-odd statutes to allow for same-sex civil unions to be registered.

In the end, we failed, but along the way, i got to experience the life of an activist. Meaning the death threat calls at 2am, the ones where they just say how they’re totally going to rape you to death, the ones who give the bestiality-incest slippery-slope bullshit argument as noted here…they all sort of blend together after a while.

The one I remember best was one fellow who insisted he had a right to a debate with me, on my phone, at my home, at his convenience, whether I wanted it or not. He got to the slippery slope and said “so obviously, the next step here is being able to marry children or horses-”

I interrupted. “That’s out of order, mate. Enough with the slippery-slope bestiality bit; if you don’t know the difference between sapient consent and abusing animals, I will hang up without further warning, as I’m not interested in talking with you in that circumstance.”

He said, “Okay, fine. But when you start to ask about being able to marry a hor-”

    I hung up.

He called right back. Outraged! “How dare you hang up on me? I was only trying to talk about your wanting to marry a hor-”

    I hung up.

He called right back. Outraged even more! “You’re the rudest person I ever met! You homosexuals are all alike!”

After I hung up that time, I blocked his number.

The next day, he called from his work (more or less pre-cellphones, this was, to show how back in the dawn of time I’m meaning) to do it again. So I blocked that number.

This went on for a week, with him finding new phone numbers, and me blocking each one.

FUCK the slippery slope argument on this, and FUCK anyone who thinks it’s valid or valuable. It never leads anywhere productive, and can be taken safely as a sign that the person raising it isn’t worth wasting decent sun-fearing carbon dioxide for.

The outrageous part of this is that the lamestream media took this fuckken asshole seriously back in 2004 relative to his Swift Boat smear campaign against John Kerry.

We see that happening with the Rethuglican candidate for Lt. Governor in Virginia where the lame stream media takes him seriously, instead of considering him an object of mirth.

  9. Taz says

The Biblical principal is that sex is given to human beings by God as a sacred act…

This has always made me laugh – the idea that human fucking is some sacred act as opposed to the fucking of millions of others species on Earth. Sorry, Jerome, you’re an animal, and what you do with your dick isn’t any more sacred than what any other animal does with its dick.

  10. timberwoof says

I was going to say, “but but but! false dichotomy! they could be deliberate!” but Raging Bee beat me to it. Then I read CatieCat’s experience, which reminded me of a conversation I had with some conservative Christian men (a father and two or three of his sons) outside the inaugural meeting of the Promise Keepers in Boulder, CO. (The CU Boulder head football coach had misused his university podium to announce the group.) I agreed to talk with them on the condition that they not bring up pederasty, which I and every gay person I know find repulsive and is not part of what we want to protect. If they bring that up, the conversation is over. They said they were fine with that. So we had a pretty good conversation for about half an hour about a wide variety of topics related to gay rights. Then, as I knew was inevitable, Dad brought up pederasty. I said, “I told you at the start that I am offended by that, so this conversation is over.” I turned my back on them and left.

They’re a little bit stupid and a lot malevolent … but they can’t think rationally. They’re crazy.

  11. slc1 says

    Re timberwoof @ #12

Don’t you know that straight people never engage in pederasty? If you believe that, I have a nice bridge over the Potomac I’d like to sell you.

  12. Abby Normal says

Indeed, one can hardly walk down the streets of a Massachusetts town without getting murdered on film to feed the insatiable demands of the death fetishists. Just last week it happened to me three times while visiting Boston.

    I got better.

  13. says

CaitieCat, thank you for your work, and you have my sympathies for having to put up with irrational stalker people.

Deanaustin, you’ve hit the nail on the head, I think. It isn’t about consent/non-consent to the religious. It’s only about sin/not-sin.

  14. Moggie says

The Biblical principal is that sex is given to human beings by God as a sacred act…

It kinda creeps me out how many Christians make sex sound like something noble and high-minded and rather boring. If you can’t tell the difference between fucking and reading psalms, you’re doing at least one of them wrong.

  15. says

Corsi’s “argument” is straight out of the demented Underpants Gnomes play book.

    1) Equql rights for homosexuals

    2) ??????

    3) Snuff films!

The other weird thing is how the fundagelicals can view sex as something sacred and icky at the same time.

  16. rabbitscribe says

“If you can’t tell the difference between fucking and reading psalms, you’re doing at least one of them wrong.”

Or you are one hell of a psalm-reader.

  17. Michael Heath says

The biggest supposed snuff film of all is the Christian god watching the people he sent to Hell burn there for all eternity. And Jerome Corsi celebrates this god.

  18. Trebuchet says

You’ve got to remember, a lot of these folks see nothing wrong with killing abortion doctors or homosexuals. 60 years ago, they didn’t see anything wrong with killing blacks either. Still don’t, in fact, if they’ve fallen afoul of the authorities. So projecting that gay marriage leads to murder is pretty easy for them.

  19. says

In a recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle, Archbishop Cordileone actually said that same-sex marriage must be opposed because “Children have a right to a mother and a father.” As we can all readily see, the establishment of marriage equality will inevitably reduce the number of children with mothers and fathers. You just have to peer through your Catholic lenses!

  20. birgerjohansson says

You see, if we let down our guard just five minutes there will be wall-to-wall buggery, cannibalism and whatnot.
Because without the rules of the church, we will immediately devolve into…I dunno. Terminators?

This is why the Scandinavian countries are like Australia of the Mad Max films now that we have mostly abandoned the churches.

  21. CaitieCat says

@23: Oh, so THAT’S where Tina Turner got to. I’d been wondering.

Did they build the Thunderdome up north, out of, like, caribou-ribs or something? Cause that’d be cool. Gross, but cool.

Oooh, or maybe they built an Ice-Thunderdome!

  22. busterggi says

“The Biblical principal is that sex is given to human beings by God as a sacred act…”

Not according to Genesis – Adam & Eve didn’t know about sex until they disobeyed Yahweh and ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, it had been deliberately kept from them.

And afterwards Yahweh punished women by making childbirth painful which is no gift.

Really wish these Christian dogmatists would read their damn book.

  23. says

“Not according to Genesis – Adam & Eve didn’t know about sex until they disobeyed Yahweh and ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, it had been deliberately kept from them.”

The “Forbidden Fruit” was oysters and beef steak, laced with VIAGRA!

  24. lofgren says

Not according to Genesis – Adam & Eve didn’t know about sex until they disobeyed Yahweh and ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, it had been deliberately kept from them.

Um, no. God decrees that man and woman would be united as “one flesh” in Genesis 2:23. The Fall doesn’t happen until 3:6, and there is nothing about sex in that chapter.

  25. doublereed says

I didn’t know “snuff films” were in the vocabulary of high-minded christians. Seriously, most people don’t know what that refers to.

  26. njosprey says

Michael Heath said: “The biggest supposed snuff film of all is the Christian god watching the people he sent to Hell burn there for all eternity. And Jerome Corsi celebrates this god.”

Agreed. In fact God wrote, directed and produced the most famous snuff film in history in which he cast “his only begotten son” in the leading role of human sacrifice.

  27. lofgren says

Once again we see that these people have no concept of consent as the basis for healthy and legal sexuality. Like the claim that anti-abortion groups are primarily motivated by a desire to punish and control women, I once considered the claim that conservatives consider consent to be irrelevant to what sexual behaviors should be legal to be a beyond-the-pale attempt to vilify them. Yet quotes like this have shown me again and again that it is all too true.
