BSA Board Apparently Possessed by Demons

Kevin Swanson of Generations Radio is turning the crazy up to 11 in his reaction to the Boy Scouts of America voting to allow gay teens to join their ranks. As many wingnuts do, he blames everything he doesn’t like on “spiritual principalities” — that is, demons.

You have powerful principalities; you have spiritual principalities that have a fair amount of control over large, centralized systems and these demonic systems find opportunity to control these large, centralized organizations. That’s one reason why it is so dangerous to centralized power; it is very dangerous, that’s one reason why our nation was inherently decentralized at the beginning.

Of course. Who can forget Thomas Jefferson’s powerful words urging political decentralization so that demons don’t take over the country?

If at the point where they have embraced some of the absolute worst abominations found in the word of God, friends I would think people would wake up and say, ‘you know what I just don’t want my children growing up with the idea that we accept this kind of behavior as righteous behavior.’ Friends, this is the disintegration of society and morality as we know it, this is where it happens, right here. Unless parents wake up and get their kids out of the Boy Scouts and out of the Girl Scouts, I personally think you’re going to lose your kids, you’re going to lose your kids to these worldly ideas, you’re going to lose your kids to these civilization-destroying things like homosexuality. My encouragement right now is all good people, any parent who loves his kid should get their kids out of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts because they are endorsing some of this unrighteous behavior. This is the kind of stuff that is destroying our nation and our civilizations.

I know, right? All those nations that have full equality for gays and lesbians, just being destroyed before our eyes!

Yes – but in his defense its only because the Devil made him do it!

“He blames everything he doesn’t like … on demons.”

Well, as long as he’s being logical about it.

“… these demonic systems find opportunity to control these large, centralized organizations.”

    Like the Southern Baptist Convention?

  3. Michael Heath says

Well, in Kevin Swanson’s defense, it was centralized power that ended slavery in the U.S. and thereby thwarting the will of God.

I’m a Boy Scout leader and I’m pretty sure there’s been no demonic influence in our preparations for summer camp. Unless demons cause the incredibly loud roughhousing inattention of 12 year old kids.

I had to read that twice to realise the second quote wasn’t from Fake Jefferson as a joke.

If the demons are more powerful than jesus/god, why call them gods? Call them slacker wannabe’s instead.

This is the senselessness of some xianity.

    1. God is all poweful and can do anything.

    2. God does nothing and lets satan and the demons run around doing everything.

Swanson’s god is sick, dead, or just doesn’t care any more.

    Demons don’t exist.

Even when I was a xian, that was the belief of our church, although probably not the official one. There was a dogma somewhere but no one knew what is was. Or cared. They were supposedly Calvinist but I never heard one word about Calvin or predestination.

For a lot of people, demons went out of fashion when it was discovered that rather than demons causing disease, it was microbial pathogens, genetics, and lifestyle choices. Most of us go to real doctors these days, not witch doctors.

The BSA board is possessed by something many orders of magnitude more powerful than demons or satan.

    The need for money.

They have high fixed costs and salaried employed bigots.

Their membership has been falling steadily and donations are drying up as groups decline to oppose a bunch of oogedy boogedy haters. At some point, some of the so called leadership are going to have to find other jobs.

The “absolute worst abominations found in the word of God” were committed by God.

I don’t think I comment on any behaviour being righteous. His little strawman quote is just bizarre. Unless you’re impersonating Bill and Ted.

  11. John Pieret says

some of the absolute worst abominations found in the word of God

I don’t suppose it occurred to him that that could be taken two ways.
