Wingnut on Wingnut Crime: Jones vs O’Reilly

Okay kids, pop the popcorn and set your DVRs to stun. This one is going to be really fun to watch. It seems Bill O’Reilly put up a graphic of Alex Jones with the words “hate speech” next to them on his show last week and Jones is losing his mind — or what’s left of it — over the whole thing.

“I’d like to get in a boxing ring with Bill O’Reilly,” Jones said, after accusing him of taking his words out of context on his show Wednesday night. “I challenge you to a pay-per-view boxing match. You think you’re so tough?” Jones accused O’Reilly of trying to intimidate his guests by turning their microphones off and pointing his finger in their faces. “You big, fat bully!” he exclaimed.

“You’re scared to have me on your show,” Jones said, predicting that if he was a guest, O’Reilly would draw 10 million viewers. “You’re jealous. Your radio show failed, you’re a failure.” Jones insisted that he represents the “independent” “wave of the future” while O’Reilly is stuck in the past. Increasing his intensity and volume, Jones screamed, “you want to start a fight with me, punk? Huh? You think you can shove me around? You’re a coward, punk, rat bastard!”

Forget boxing, let’s do MMA. We can call it the Ultimate Fucktard Championship.

The other day I tuned into my favorite talk show by Pot, and there was this giant graphic behind him of Kettle, with the word “black” next to it.

Kettle immediately went out shopping for shoe polish and charcoal.

I’m not sure there’s enough popcorn on the planet for how entertaining that would be.

It really shows the aberrant psychology of these nuts. What does boxing have to do with it? It’s like children trying to prove they’re right by way of “my dad can beat up your dad!” In my family, children are expected to grow out of that. You don’t settle arguments by changing the subject to who’s the better fighter.

And, of course, there’s the stupidity of bringing up jealousy. One of my favorite bits of dialogue from Futurama:

    Leela: “Oh, you’re just jealous.”
Fry: “No, I’m not. Oh, wait, I am. But my point remains valid!”

One of the few moments where Fry is the voice of reason.

So Jones responds to an accusation of hate by behaving in a hatefully. My money’s on O’Reilly, given Jones’ apparent propensity of ducking into the punch.

“You big, fat bully!” shrieked the overweight man who challenges complete strangers to fights all the time.

I can’t help but think this is premeditated. They probably met at the Rotary and discussed how to best come in the centre of attention again. After all, they’re both millionaires aren’t they?

I view this sort of thing as similar to “beef” in the rap industry, where one artist will criticize another, and so that artist returns the insults, it goes back and forth, and both artists sell more albums as a result. (ex: is there any question that Jay-Z revived Nas’s career by giving him the opportunity to do ‘Ether’ as a response to ‘Takeover’)

I’m sure O’Reilly and Jones both want this conflict, since for them, there’s no downside (do you really think that either of them will lose any fans as a result of this?). And the more ridiculous it gets, the more entertainment they’re providing for their viewers/listeners, and they’ll end up increasing the number of viewers/listeners as each other’s fans tune in to see what the other one is going to counter with.

10 million viewers? I haven’t heard of Alex Jones outside of this blog. Is he really that big?

  9. Amphiox says

Kinda hard to lose something you never had….

That’s why he is so upset. He had so little to begin with, and scarcity increases value.

This is awesome. Is it just me or is Billo now the voice of reason of the right wing blow hards. Forget the popcorn give me a good single barrel bourbon for this one.

Alex friggin’ Jones criticized someone for being fat?

What is it with this unamerican boxing match. Jones should pick up his six shooter stand on the street in front of the fix noise building and demand O’Reilly would step out and duel him.

Fighting doesn’t really prove who’s toughest, since you can win a fight through dumb luck. A better method is for both parties to stand and smash their head against a wall as hard as they can until one of them gives in. That’s a true measure of grit and determination.

    .
Well, that’s true, but having two folks actually fight is the best way to see who the best fighter is. Can’t eliminate the luck factor.
    .
Assuming that neither know anything about actual fighting, but only bullying, I wouldn’t bet much on the outcome, but I’d put up a Lincoln on Jones. Since neither knows anything, they’d probably end up wrastlin’ poorly, and Jones would win with body mass.
    .
I’d pay more just to watch, however.

More to the point, it doesn’t prove who’s right. Jones is getting embarrassed and flustered as he goes ever further out on a limb to make a fool of himself, and now he apparently has no better response than to lash out like a little kid and brag about how big and tough he is as everyone else just walks away. I take that as a good sign.
