Sylvia Browne Finally Responds

After several days of taking a well-deserved public beating over having told the mother of one of the young women who was kidnapped a decade ago and was found alive last week, Sylvia Browne has finally responded to the uproar with a self-serving and inane statement:

For more than 50 years as a spiritual psychic and guide, when called upon to either help authorities with missing person cases or to help families with questions about their loved ones, I have been more right than wrong. If ever there was a time to be grateful and relieved for being mistaken, this is that time. Only God is right all the time. My heart goes out to Amanda Berry, her family, the other victims and their families. I wish you a peaceful recovery.

But Sylvia, what about your “spirit guides”? Did they lie to you? You either have the ability to talk to the dead or you don’t. You either have the ability to foresee events or you don’t. And lady, you don’t. You’re a fraud. Here are just a few of your predictions for 2012:

There will also be earthquakes in Japan, China and Europe.
There will be a tsunami in Florida in the fall.
We are going to see an economic package in place in November.
There will be a cure found for M.S.
Obama will not be reelected.
The next president will be a Republican.

Wrong. Wrong. None of these things happened. The only predictions that were “accurate” are those that are so vague or so routine — “There will be more hurricanes in 2012 in the east, and more tornadoes in middle America” — that they happen every year. In 2011, you predicted that there would be vaccines for AIDS, ALS and MS. Didn’t happen. Because you’re a fraud, a con woman fleecing the credulous and the desperate. You should be in prison.

Technically the “next president” one hasn’t happened yet. Obama’s still our president. It hasn’t changed.

I read this twice and I’m missing what she told the mother. Reading comprehension fail? Or is something missing.

    @John

You’re right, Ed missed that in his post. Sylvia Browne told Amanda Berry’s mother that she was dead. Berry’s mother passed away while Berry was in captivity, thinking that her daughter was dead.

I agree with John Hinke, Ed. I may be in no place to judge the English skills of others, but that sentence needs a little revision.

Are TV hosts like Montel Williams also taking a beating for hosting charlatans like Sylvia Browne? IMO they deserve MORE heat than Browne, because they have more power to decide who gets on their shows. Liars lie, but TV hosts make the lies pervasive.

The people who seek the advice of psychics will happily accept Browne’s explanation and continue to pay hundreds of dollars for a consultation.

I wonder if Amanda Berry’s mother was gullible enough to pay Browne for her ratbag advice, or did the TV station pick up the bill?

There probably were earthquakes in Japan, China, and Europe in 2012. There are every year.

Only God is right all the time.

Has God every made a falsifiable prediction?

  9. Synfandel says

I’m not psychic, but I predict that Sylvia Browne’s business will take a nose dive in 2013.

    Absolute bullshit.

I have been more right than wrong.

    I predict this is wrong.

Only God is right all the time.

    based on?

hey, even if you think for some odd reason the collection of tales known as the modern bible is a source of information on this character, even in THAT god admits to making mistakes.

    Synfandel @ 14:

In a world of intelligent people, Synfandel, that would be the case, but this is not that world. Probably the publicity she is getting – for being egregiously and humiliatingly wrong – will actually increase her business. You’d think “no way – only incredibly stupid people would do that!” but let’s face it, that’s the group that is her target audience in the first place.
