Buehner and Swanson Explain The Gay

Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner of Generations Radio are so far out on the lunatic fringe that John Hagee must envy them. On a show last week, they gave their utterly simplistic and offensive explanation for why people choose to become gay. I’m sure this will all sound familiar to you:

Buehner: Women don’t trust men, women raise sons, sons don’t trust men, but there’s a hole in their heart, looking for a man, looking for the love of men, they’re not getting the love of their father, they’re going to go seek it out in other men, i.e. male homosexuality. A woman does not have a trust in a man, she didn’t see a loving relationship with a man, she’s been taught that husbands are buffoons and that at best get yourself a man who is a good roller coaster ride for the night, maybe try and get a few bucks off of him doing the amateur prostitution thing but move on, keep your independence from the family and from the man and ergo why not just go ahead into lesbianism.

Now homosexuality and lesbians start building on each other and snowballing. I believe that we are at the knee of the curve here, in other words, the rate of homosexuality in society has been fairly low, it’s been in the low one percent, two percent, we’ve always had some but it’s been low, I think it’s going to skyrocket in the next decade.

Wow, he’s good. I mean, most of us would feel incapable of taking the lives and identities of millions and millions of people we’ve never met and casually reduce them all down to a single, cartoonishly simple case of cause and effect. What of the millions of gay men with perfectly good relationships with their fathers? I guess they must magically not exist because they don’t fit the narrative.

Of course this kind of message is only meant to be consumed by their simple minded followers. Truth need not apply when flogging confirmation bias to fundies.

Another example of the truth of H.L. Mencken’s dictum:

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Me and these two assholes in the same room better never happen.

I looked up to my alcoholic father because he was a decent man and though he fell off the wagon many, many times he always climbed back on. But, maybe these two complete wastes of air, water and cellular matter are only capable of loving SUCCESSFUL fathers like, maybe, Ted Haggard or Larry Craig or Ken Mehlman or (fill in the closeted sefl-hating homosexual of your choice) some other good, decent, RepubliKKKan MAN!

It almost resembles a testable hypothesis! Will he recant when, ten years from now, the number is unchanged? I’m still waiting for Intelligent Design to become the dominant paradigm in biology!

It’s the hockey stick graph! Which all good conservatives know is a lie!

    At Matt G:

The numbers may well NOT be unchanged as increasing societal acceptance means more LGBT folks come out. It won’t be anything like the explosion he’s expecting, of course.

Does he also claim that these complicated familial relationships are the cause of homosexual behavior in other animals, or is he still unaware that other animals also have teh ghey (oh no!)?

The number of OUT gays and lesbians may change, but the total number likely will not. Of course this assumes that one is either gay or straight, as opposed to there being a continuum.

How do gay children of Christian families fit into this narrative? I mean, surely there’s several God- and husband-fearing women in the audience hearing this and thinking, “wait, is he saying it’s my fault?”

Lesbians are homosexual, moron. The word “gay” is sometimes used to refer only to gay men. It’s like they performed a “search and replace all” in their brains.

I believe that we are at the knee of the curve here, in other words, the rate of homosexuality in society has been fairly low, it’s been in the low one percent, two percent, we’ve always had some but it’s been low, I think it’s going to skyrocket in the next decade.

Crazy people of this sort have been pushing this claim for at least a decade in my memory. And just like the “Scientists all over the world are beginning to reject evolution,” trope, it doesn’t matter that it never actually happens. As Lofty pointed out, the target audience consists of hardcore fundagelicals who are quite used to forgetting about prophecies unless there’s some way they can interpret them as fulfilled.

No, not snowballing!! Don’t people know how dangerous that is? Sure, there’s that momentary rush from and tingling feeling, but if it takes more than two minutes there’s a serious danger of frostbite. See how dangerous these homosexuals are!!

they’re not getting the love of their father

And if a gay child isn’t getting the love of their father, you can betcha that it is religiously motivated.

  12. Stacy says

Don’t miss the take home message: when men aren’t “trusted” enough by women, kids–or the women themselves–turn queer. It’s all about respect for men.

Women are responsible for the gay. Without men at the top of the hierarchy, the gay ensues. Followed by chaos, dogs and cats living together, etc.

What I was trying to say, not very successfully, is that poll numbers will change. I agree there’ll be no significant change in actual numbers as a percentage of population.

I had a HORRIBLE non-relationship with the guy who supplied the sperm to make me, yet I still mostly like to have sex with women.

Same old shit, People are Ghey because there’s something WRONG with them.

And what can we infer from these people who are so bereft of love from flesh-and-blood humans that they go seeking it from some imaginary Invisible Wizard in the Sky?

    * an absent father who only ‘communicates with him’ via voices in his head? Who gives him a huge persecution complex which leads to suicide via the most horrible method possible? How could he not be gay? Plus the whole page-boy haircut and hanging around twelve men, thing is a big giveaway. (And the gaydar-exploding John situation.)

    .
I assure you that women in these households have been taught all of their lives that everything is their fault, so they will take this accusation to heart. And they aren’t any better at reasoning than their menfolk are, so it’s not going to cause cognitive dissonance or anything like that.
    .
Look at the bright side – the 90% or more whose sons are not gay (or haven’t come out yet) will take pride that they have obviously done well as a mother. Sure, he may have gotten in trouble for that little incident in middle school, but boys will be boys, and at least he isn’t an abomination unto the Lord!
    .
    Praise god.
