Ron Paul has endorsed one of the looniest men in Congress, Rep. Paul Broun, in his race to replace Saxby Chambliss in the Senate from Georgia. And of course, he says it’s all about restoring the Constitution, something Broun wouldn’t recognize if it smacked him in the face.
“If we’re going to restore our Constitution and put our nation back on the path to prosperity, we must elect principled conservatives who will fight in Washington,” Paul, a former presidential candidate with deep tea party support, said in an email Thursday. “Paul Broun will continue fighting, and that’s why I endorsed his candidacy for U.S. Senate in Georgia.”
Just for fun, let’s take a look at some of the crazy and stupid things Broun has said on a regular basis. This is the guy who said that evolution and the big bang are “lies straight from the pit of hell” (and this guy is on the House Science Committee). He voted for nutcase Allen West to be speaker of the house after he was defeated in the last election. He claimed that “the only Constitution that Barack Obama upholds is the Soviet constitution, not this one.”
In his first fundraising letter in the Senate race, he said that he was “the first Member of Congress to call him a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies like government control of health care and redistribution of wealth.” I said at the time that this made him the first hipster wingnut: “I was saying batshit crazy things about Obama before it was cool.” Oh, and he said that the health care reform bill should not pay for sex-change operations because, “I’m not interested. I like being a boy.” Well good for you.
Ron Paul just endorsed this guy.
