Beck Promises to Expose the Coverup

Glenn Beck really is hilarious, isn’t he? On his show on Friday he repeated the lie about the Obama administration hurrying to deport the Saudi student who was a victim of the marathon bombing — you’d think the fact that we now know who did it would make them rethink that idiotic conspiracy theory — and he’s issuing a warning to the Obama administration that if they don’t come clean about this non-existent cover up by Monday, he’s going to reveal the truth.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I only wish he’d added, “If you don’t tell the truth, I’m going to get angry. And you wouldn’t like me if I’m angry.”

If Glenn Beck really did know the truth (& he doesn’t. Why the fuck would he?) shouldn’t he expose it immediately anyway?

What’s more disturbing than the usual noise from the right-wing nuttosphere is the fact that for most of a day, Watertown, MA was essentially placed under martial law. Despite the failure of the police’s heavy-handed tactics to produce results, the people cheered.

Guess it depends how you define “hilarious” really.

I don’t find him so. More frustrating, pitiable and exasperating.

    I prefer my comedians intentional.

Also, far too many folks apparently do take him seriously. No, I don’t know why either.

I don’t like the fucking fucker now. Him being angry isn’t going to change a thing.

@2. DaveL. From what I gather they were cheering at the results of that martial law – the capture of the Boston marathon bomber not the martial law itself.

    Extraordinary circumstances and all.

Democracy has kinda failed a lot of people in a lot of areas, (world wide) its depressing.

No, I can’t think of a better alternative.

Except just maybe Isaac Asimov’s Council of Science from his young adult Lucky Starr series although whether that was non-democratic or not, well I’d have to re-read or at least look again through the novels.

Also just maybe some of Heinlein’s ideas.

I believe democracy is the least bad political system but it also seems to me Democracy requires and only really works with an educated, intelligent, well-informed populace. Do we really get that in a lot of places?

Sometimes while watching Beck, I get a nagging feeling of familiarity. I think I just figured out why. His delivery is equal parts preacher and conspiracy theorist. I wonder if the Saudi guy has basis for a lawsuit against Beck. Maybe the claims were too vague to be litigable? IANAL.

The student in question here may be able to bring a big defamation suit. I fear he’ll be the center of right-wing conspiracy theories for years,

The dramatic pauses are getting sillier and sillier at each broadcast. Does his audience really buy into that schtick?

I can’t wait until Monday for Beck goes on air and “reveals” to the world that the Saudi national responsible for the Boston bombings is …. Barack Obama! His audience will eat it up.

DaveL said, “for most of a day, Watertown, MA was essentially placed under martial law.

No … it was a voluntary lockdown. They were ASKED to stay inside, which most of them did because they didn’t want to clutter the scene with persons who would waste resources being checked out and risk getting hit by a stray bullet or taken hostage.

When the Phoenix cops came to my door and asked me to stay inside because they were searching the neighborhood for an armed fugitive who had been in a running gunbattle with them down the freeway (I used to live near an off-ramp), I could have said, “Hell no” and strolled down the alleys and they wouldn’t have stopped me. But I’m not that stupid. Maybe you are.

When the narcotics detective I had reported a drug-dealing tenant to called me and told me that Friday would be a good day for the rest of the tenants to go to the movies and could I make it happen, I could have told him that they had a right to have their Friday evening BBQ outside despite his veiled warning of an impending drug raid, or they could have said “no., we want to have a BBQ even though you are telling us that the cops are going to land on that drug dealer we told you about” … but they weren’t that stupid. Everybody loudly and openly headed across the street for pizza and the movies to give the drug guys a clear field of action.

Despite the failure of the police’s heavy-handed tactics to produce results, the people cheered.
Exactly how would you search a residential area full of shrubbery, garages, sheds, fences, and boats for an armed person who had reportedly carjacked someone, killed one cop, wounded another, shot at police and thrown explosives at them?

The house with the boat was just outside the area that had been searched … but the loud and public search probably kept the suspect hiding and removed the chance of another carjacking and a hostage.

Calling what happened on Friday “martial law” is reducing the term to uselessness.

Tsu Dho Nimh mostly has the right of it, although as I understand it there was a ban on cars driving through Watertown that they at least claimed they would enforce (I would guess through tickets and/or temporary detainment). Whether there was any need, I don’t know.

I have several friends and family in that town. They were annoyed, scared, proud, and sad. They were most certainly not under anything that could reasonably be called “martial law.” The police made recommendations and elected officials assented, then they made fairly polite requests of cooperative residents. What happened was unusual but it is not unprecedented, and occurred entirely within the scope of the rule of civil law.

On Monday, Beck will reveal that his entire schtick is pulling stuff out of his ass, apologize to his listeners, and retire.

What? He’s going to reveal some OTHER truth?

Agreed, I’ve got family living in Boston near Copley Square and they know a family in Watertown. They said the same thing – residents in Watertown were asked to stay where they were if indoors – be that at work or at home – or otherwise return home and stay inside. They were not forced to do so, but were advised it was for their own safety in case there was another gun battle (which, in the end, there was), and told it would help the search. To say it was “martial law” is nonsense worthy of Alex Jones.

There is little potential down side for Beck. His audience and demographic are keen to hear dirt on, variously: Obama, his agenda, liberals in general.

He can depended that there are enough human errors like misspoken communications, fractured time lines, and general missteps to maintain doubt and uncertainty indefinitely. This was the grist that the 9/11 Truther mill ran on for … well … it has slowed and lost power, and followers, but it still exists.

If and when the counter argument becomes so incontrovertible that contradicting it publicly is obviously just an act of perversity Beck can be counted upon to reach for a bottle of Vapo-Rub, cry profusely, profess his innocence and … wait for it … declare that he was deceived by government sources as part of a conspiracy to discredit him. And … we are off to the races chasing down the hidden truth of another despicable act by Obama and his minions.

It is a self-winding watch … a veritable perpetual motion machine of propaganda and spectacle.

Glenn Beck wouldn’t know the truth if it punched him in the face with one hand and gave him a wedgie with the other. In fact, it’s done so many, many times and he still hasn’t gotten the hint. I guess the truth can’t handle Glenn Beck.

This is totally, unequivocally, hilarious. This takes posturing to such an absurd level that laughter becomes almost uncontrollable. And it takes GB and his followers to a whole new level of moronic. If he had even a crumb of credibility on any level whatsoever, it got tossed in this one.

Three words Ed, Lee Harvey Oswald, when has actually capturing the real killer stopped the loonies from making up crap?

They’re probably going to say that the Saudi is planning on using Obama’s magical time machine to become the second gunman on the grassy knoll.

The sad part is that I’m not sure I’m really joking about that.

Let me get this straight. You think that your President, the most powerful man in the world, is secretly a terrorist willing to murder innocent people for political capital, and your plan is to blackmail this person?

Now there’s a sentence you’ll never hear from Beck!

Don’t forget, after 9/11 when air travel was shut down, Obama also engineered the exit of dozens of Saudi citizens from the country while the WTC was still burning. Oh wait….
