It appears that Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is making a bid for attention in wingnut circles. And how do you get such attention? By ratcheting the crazy rhetoric up to 11 and saying batshit things. Speaking to a Republican group, he said that a group of Democrats seeking to make Texas a battleground state politically is more dangerous than North Korea:
Abbott also weighed in on Battleground Texas, a group formed by veterans of Obama’s presidential campaigns hoping to make Democrats more competitive in Texas, where the party hasn’t won a statewide election in nearly two decades.
“One thing that requires ongoing vigilance is the reality that the state of Texas is coming under a new assault, an assault far more dangerous than what the leader of North Korea threatened when he said he was going to add Austin, Texas, as one of the recipients of his nuclear weapons,” Abbott said. “The threat that we’re getting is the threat from the Obama administration and his political machine.”
He also ranted about the UN’s passage of a treaty to stop major arms trafficking overseas, saying he would sue Obama over it (which would be thrown out in about 8 seconds). I’d say Abbott has a bright future in Republican politics. He’s got the paranoid style identified so perfectly by Richard Hofstadter down pat.
