O’Reilly Blathers About ‘Secular Progressives’ Again

The Supreme Court has said that, when it comes to nativity scenes, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are secular symbols that dilute the message of Christianity. To Bill O’Reilly, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are the only things standing between secular progressives and their evil agenda.

O’REILLY: Secular progressives are running wild with President Obama in the White House. They feel unchained, liberated, and they’re trying to diminish any form of religion. The goal is to marginalize religious opposition to secular programs. For example, in Canada and China a woman can have an abortion for any reason at any time. Secular progressives want that here. But traditional forces in America are in opposition. Therefore in this country, you can’t terminate a baby about to be born without a damn good reason. And if you do abort a late term baby, you could be charged with murder. SPs hate that. In Scandanavia, there are laws that say you cannot criticize minorities and if you do, you could be arrested. Secular progressives want laws like that here. Also the legalization of drugs, well under way in many places, and that is a secular cause. So, if the far left can marginalize Santa and the Easter bunny, of they can tell the children those symbols are obsolete and unnecessary, they then set the stage for a totally secular society in the future.

You mean like the Worldnutdaily, which has correctly pointed out that both Christmas and Easter are pagan holidays coopted by early Christians?

Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny fighting evil? Sounds like someone thought Rise of The Guardians was a documentary.

Way to thrash the shit out of that strawman there.

Also the legalization of drugs, well under way in many places, and that is a secular cause.

But, but what about “Bong hits for Jesus”?

    Highly doubtful BillyO “facts”:

“in Canada … a woman can have an abortion for any reason at any time”

“if you do abort a late term baby, you could be charged with murder”

“In Scandanavia, there are laws that say you cannot criticize minorities and if you do, you could be arrested. Secular progressives want laws like that here.”

But, given his premise that marginalizing Santa and the Easter Bunny (as if they were non-trivial to begin with) will set the stage for a totally secular society in the future, what’s the sense in further demonstrating that he is delusional and/or will say anything for ratings?

matty1 @1- There are some that act like they think Team America, Red Dawn (the original, but given enough time the remake too) and The Flintstones are documentaries so why not that one too?

A nisse is a small elf-like creature that could easily be mistaken by Americans for the Travelocity gnome. They speak nissesprog, or “pixie language,” and are known to wear peaked red hats. They are pervasive in Denmark around Christmas– there are many stories about them, they appear in shop windows, on clothing, on greeting cards, basically anywhere you might see Santa Claus in the U.S. around that time.

Is it because of the nisse that the Jyllands Posten was able to publish multiple cartoons ridiculing Islam’s prophet Muhammad without anyone getting arrested?

O’Reilly does like to cherry pick the data. Unrestricted late term abortions are only allowed in three nations — China, Canada, and Vietnam. All those other Godless nations (Sweden, Norway, UK, etc) are no less restrictive of late term abortions than most states in the US.

Is Bill O a closet scientologist? It fits the ridiculous bravado and the persecution complex even better than Catholocism.

  9. Captain Mike says

From what I understand, it is literally impossible for a woman in Canada to have an elective abortion past 24 weeks. It’s not illegal, but there apparently aren’t any doctors who do them.

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of Canadian law on abortion but, as I said, it wouldn’t change my opinion of BillyO’s venality and/or break from reality.

,blockquote>Also the legalization of drugs, well under way in many places, and that is a secular cause.

That is incoherent and messed up even for O’Reilly.

I missed where the bible, the Pope, and xianity opposed the legalization of drugs. IIRC, the bible doesn’t say anything about it one way or another. They were OK with drinking alcohol for sure. And alcohol is a strong drug with potentially huge effects on people’s lives, including deaths from acute alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, and drunk driving. Jesus, who is god, is famous for turning water into wine.

The push to legalize marijuana seems to be pragmatic and broad based. The war on drugs failed just like Prohibition failed. Marijuana is decriminalized, semi-legal, or legal in many states. And guess what? It hasn’t made any difference.

“In Scandanavia, there are laws that say you cannot criticize minorities and if you do, you could be arrested. Secular progressives want laws like that here.”

Nope. You can criticize things like the honor violence prevalent in some minorities.
What you cannot say is “darkies are stoopid and/or dishonest”.

And for historical reasons, you cannot do the fascist salute or use a swastika symbol.

Canada -What about fetuses that are so badly messed up they will die within minutes of birth?

Fundie xianity is based on ingroup outgroup hate.

The brighter among them know this and do it quite deliberately. O’Reilly is one. If he can’t babble on about his hates of Fox news, he would be out of a high paying job. And Fox News wouldn’t have anything left to say.

Whenever there are hate crimes laws proposed, one group always shows up to oppose them. Fundie xian ministers. Because if they can’t hate, they have nothing else to say. And they know it.

They may be related to the Swedish original “tomte”, a rural entity friendly to humans. Later “tomte” became synonymous with the anglo-saxon santa Claus, wearing much more posh clothes.
Nisse is today used in Sweden as synonymous with the slave labour used by Santa to run his sweatshop.

Next question: Are the nisses secular commienazis or glorious religious freedom fighters?

Whenever someone claims that a group “HATES” something, or uses the work “shocking,” I just assume it’s a crappy web ad.

I fixed O’Reilly’s remarks to reflect actual reality:

Right wing theocrats are running wild with President Obama in the White House. They feel unchained, liberated, and they’re trying to diminish any form of secularism. The goal is to marginalize secular opposition to religious programs. For example, in Alabama and North Dakota, a woman can’t have an abortion for any reason at any time.

  18. says

    Doug Little,
In a Playboy interview a few years ago O’Reilly said he was in favor of decriminalizing marijuana. Sounds pretty secular progressive to me.
Of course, Bill doesn’t have to worry about any of his white Christian males picking up a Playboy. Now PlayGIRL on the other hand …

  19. katie says

Women can have abortions for any reason, at any time? How strange. I thought they were limited to having abortions because they were pregnant, at times they didn’t want to be or couldn’t be.

  20. jaxkayaker says

People, please. You’re missing the big news. Sure, Bill O’Really? is a shithead asshat. We know that. Everyone knows that, including his own family. The big news is that the WhirledNutDaily was correctly reported some facts. Ed buried the lede on the biggest story of the year.
