Rush: Obama May Cancel 2016 Election

Alan Colmes brought unhinged lunatic Erik Rush on his radio show and let him blather on about Obama’s plan to round us all up into concentration camps. And he said that there’s a 50% chance that he will cancel the 2016 election and declare himself to be dictator. But don’t worry, he assures us that “this isn’t crackpot stuff.” No, of course not.

Either Obama will do this, or he won’t. Therefore, it’s 50/50, as long as you have zero information. In other, Erik Rush is being perfectly logical and Bayesian as long as we assume that he doesn’t know anything.

I think this is a fair assumption.

    Modusoperandi

And when he declares himself Dictator for Life, then he’ll let the real leftwinger he is come out. You’ll see!

Erik Rush would need to climb up several levels of crazy to get to “crackpot”.

Wasn’t Obama going to cancel the 2012 election as well?

But why would Obama even want to cancel the election? Elections have been pretty good to him, up to now.

Ironically, the greatest danger of us ending up with a one party system are clowns like Rush driving the other party extinct with their radicalism.

Why are the conservative blatherers and ideologues trying *so hard* to inspire a disaster like the Bosnian Civil War in the United States? Didn’t they watch the snipers and the hungry children and the leveling of Sarajevo on television with the rest of us? Do all the various Christian Militias and Dominionist fanatics think they are bulletproof?

So, when Obama doesn’t cancel the election, he can say he wasn’t wrong about making a 50/50 prediction, since it could have just as easily gone the other way. Loyal wingnuts will probably defend him using this rationale, even if we bring up a track record of numerous failed predictions that demonstrate he doesn’t understand what he’s predicting or that he has the world’s worst luck.

Glad to have normal sized text, again, by the way.

Aha! And the fact that he DIDN’T cancell the election in 2012 is PROOF POSITIVE that he will cancel the elections in 2016!

Exactly: It’s a win-win for them. The same idiots who believe them now will believe them then.

Glad to see the fonts looking better.

How unimaginative! If Rush really wanted to scare the dopes he’d claim Obama will cancel the 2020 election. After all what better demonstration of Obama’s evil powers than cancelling an election four years after he left office.

If Obama were to attempt such a stunt, he would have to simultaneously dissolve Congress, which would have a bill of impeachment ready by the time the ink was dry on the “President for life” proclamation. And all that would do is remind all those guys in uniform that they swore to defend the Constitution.

In the United States, we don’t cancel elections. We rig them. Not by playing games with the ballot process, but by rigging the slate of candidates so that it doesn’t really who the nominal winner is. Despite their loud differences, both parties agree that that expanding the scope of government is always better. The Left frames it in terms of “We know what’s best for you”, and the Right sees an opportunity to create more Civil Service jobs to pass out to the Party faithful. Either way, the old Republic is as dead as Carthage.

If Pres Obama was going to cancel any election it would be the 2014s. But Mr Rush can’t claim that because someone might accidentally remember he made the claim. The wingnutz won’t remember any of this next week when the new outrage is announced on Faux News.

Just like he canceled the 2012 election, and just like Dubya canceled 2008 and 2004.

I’m not old enough to remember an election year that didn’t have conspiracy theorists yammering about a presidential coup.

Christoph: I don’t recall hearing much about Herbert Walker Bush being about to usurp the elections like that. And not even Reagan–back then, we were still just doing bad numerology exercises to get “666″ out of president’s names. Ah, good times, simpler times… Nowadays, I have to play a game of Illuminati just to try and keep up.

I was one of the ones worried that Bush was going to cancel the 2008 election & declare martial law. My reasoning was that his puppetmasters had so much invested in the Bush cabal, and were getting so much money & power through it, that they would never allow the situation to change. My reasoning was right, but my conclusion was wrong. They simply bought Obama too, and continue to run things & pull strings no matter who is nominally in power. Like Stever @13 said, there is no need to cancel elections- they just rig them & make sure whomever wins is already in their pocket.

    Artor writes:

So Sam Alito and John Roberts = Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor?

Also, why are the Republicans in Congress refusing to pass the president’s budgets, or filibustering in the Senate at a far higher rate than any other period in our nation’s history, in spite of the fact the Democrats in the Senate are promoting policies the President supports? After all, according to you, the president and Republicans* both serve the same masters. So why the infighting?

*Yes, I conflated George W. Bush with today’s Republicans. That’s because their financial constituents are the same and the policies they promote now are predominately the same ones Mr. Bush promoted while president.

How unimaginative! If Rush really wanted to scare the dopes he’d claim Obama will cancel the 2020 election.

The goal is not to “scare the dopes” who are most certainly too smart to be duped: the goal of these ludicrous claims is to make their fantasy of violently overthrowing the government seem like a principled opinion: it’s always better to pass for the village’s idiot when deep down you want to kill the village’s mayor to take his stuff

    Michael Heath:

Nobody is saying that the “two” parties are exactly the same. The Democrats tend to be more socially liberal and are based in coastal and large city areas while the Republicans are more rural and southern.

But the social issues which are so much sturm und drang??? The cosmopolitan elites really don’t care about them, overall. They can always get a safe abortion or find good culture.

But the fundamentals of policy…financialization of the economy (banking industry uber alles), expansionist foreign policy, massive military spending…pretty much a broad consensus. Look at who Obama hired to run his transition team? A bunch of bankers and financial gamblers…errrr Wall Street “experts”.

As for the masters….the politicians serve Mammon. Money. The system demands it. Are you suggesting this is not true? Nobody is saying elite classes never have divisions or arguments…of course they do. There is no monolithic conspiracy. just a class of people who often know each other, feel comfortable with each other, and have similar interests.

There are of course, buts on the fringe to provide entertainment. And the nuts can certainly negatively impact policy (look at the whittling away of abortion rights). But, overall, there is that broad agreement,.

    bmiller @ 23 to me, I assume based on my response @ 21 to artor @ 20:

Nobody is saying that the “two” parties are exactly the same.

Please quote what I wrote and then rebut that. Given that I was rebutting artor, it would also be good form to quote that as well for context. Not doing so makes it far easier to promote strawmen of what others actually wrote.

In addition you appear to be contradicting yourself in this one sentence. Specifically, your putting scare quotes around ‘two’ and then immediately asserting the two parties aren’t exactly the same.

It seems that these various wingnut claims and whines are more to do with loss of power and dwindling respect.
They are all going for ever more fantastical accusations.
Seems desperation, bruised ego’s and lack of self awareness conspire to make themselves a laughing stock in rational circles.

It is almost clown like except these bozos want to instigate an uprising, or at very least a hub bub of dissatisfaction and complaint against those that apparently want to disenfranchise them.so they create and promote the rumour of loss of liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and spice the pot with the most scary allusions they can conjure.
Anything from invoking dark Nazi inspired mayhem and death camps, to totalitarian Communism to the buzzwords that frighten and seems legit cos they see TV and the likes of Beck and Rush acting concerned and hysterical and read the media vomit about muslim…teh ghey…atheist…liberal…hatred of god…etc etc…in fact anything to tickle the knee jerk reaction that the scholastically dumb can be guaranteed to exhibit.

The god botherers up the anti cos they are always looking for advantage in any situation so they stoke it up as well, playing on the fears of the sheeple has always been a theist tactic.

What they want, seemingly, is a return to the values that apparently grants the chosen few power and respect.
In other words only to those that hate anyone else for being different and one of them not one of us!

So a lot of jeebus drooling, a lot of nationalistic pride, a lot of scare stories threatening personal liberty, claims of an approaching apocalypse, or a governmental conspiracy to take away the toys that make them feel macho and self important…any and all, just to get a kick back from the TV dinner munchers with little else to occupy their fear soaked thoughts.

And since Obama really kicked them in the white privileged gonads by winning a second election fairly despite their attempted gerrymandering and voter repression, and they are now for all intents and purposes being governed by a blackman, their shame and consternation is complete, they have no recourse but to take back what they think is theirs and only theirs and armed force seems the logical conclusion cos ‘democracy’ as it is practised has been corrupted beyond their belief, and as such certainly is no help.

So they have this childish desire to lie and misinform like Barton or make up stories like Rush to get their way.

The main problem is not that these muppets are out there spewing utter puerile bollix, but that there is a media that reports it as if the nonsense is a valid premise, that tends to give more credence and respect then it really deserves.
Adding that assumed gravitas just exacerbates the problem and encourages other conceited, bigoted, ignorant, privileged, blowhards to join the wailing incoherence because they want a part of the new republic where they are king and not some upstart uppity coloured monkey and his minions!

It is so transparent it is blinding in its simplicity.

You have to admit, the timing of the Osamma bush Forgotten tape being released right before the election is suspicious. W may not have considered canceling the election but his administration sure did manipulate events to work in their favor.

  32. 32

In what possible way could the president cancel the election? The elections are controlled at the state level – an announcement from the White House that the elections are cancelled would be ignored by most of the country.

The army would be legally required to refuse any order to sieze voting machines and barracade the poling places. Even if they do, the state legislatures could select slates of electors and probably successfully argue in court that this was the only way to fulfill their constitutional duties

Presumably, the president could just refuse to leave the White House, but since most executive branch agencies would stop taking instructions from him and start taking them from his successor, then it wouldn’t really accomplish anything..

  33. 33
    bmiller

Michael: The scare quotes are in this place ironic. But you yourself are ignoring my basic point, that there is a lot of agreement on questions of fundamental policy. They can argue about the details, but….

As for the straw man charge? Nah. Your quote delves into how the Bad Republicans are delaying Obama’s budget and slowing the machinery of government. No acknowledgement that Obama’s budget or his policy programs in general; are pretty much standard neoconservative/neoliberal on all important issues and that the debate seems to be about theatrics.

I will agree elements of the Republican Party are indeed, devolving into insanity, but as I question some of the fundamental agreements on policy, I’m not convinced that being more adult in defending insane things (the Democratic Party trope) is exactly encouraging.

    In order:
    * Because they think they are guaranteed to win (God says so!)
    * No, they really didn’t. My father’s obsession with right-wing news sources means I get exposed to them a lot and I can’t remember more than passing coverage on how bad the situation in Sarajevo was for the populace.
    * Yes.

The right-wing conception of a war in the US comes more from the film “Red Dawn” (either of them, I suppose, but I haven’t seen the recent one) than from real-world events. A rag-tag bunch of good-old-boys can totally whip-up on any better-armed opponents because we rednecks have the power of gumption on their side, with just a bit of smudge on their cheeks to show how hard it has really been. Sure, they’ll have to go camping for a bit, but it will be like camping out at a gun range because they’ll get to have fun shooting stuff all the time! Oh, and a few good people might get turned into awesome martyrs, and who doesn’t love that?
