Schlafly, Eliason: Hagel a Muslim, Obama a Pacifist

There’s something both amusing and appalling about the synergy that takes place when two wingnuts talk to one another. As if they’re activating their wonder twin powers, they manage to transcend their individual ability to be morons and combine to form one giant moron. Vic Eliason and Phyllis Schlafly demonstrate this symbiosis perfectly in this discussion:

Eliason: Phyllis, there have been those that allege that Mr. Hagel has become or has been a part of Islam, he’s Islamic. What substance is on this thing?

Schlafly: Hagel is the most dangerous appointee for secretary of defense we’ve ever had, he’s got so many things wrong with him. He’s for getting rid of our nuclear weapons, he’s for downplaying our anti-missile defense and he’s even for signing onto the Law of the Sea Treaty, which would give some more foreign people the opportunity to make decisions about our policies. Whereas we know the whole world is better off if we have military superiority. Well, when we talk about Obama and his attack on religion he gives a pass to Islam. So, we have to be on guard on that all the time.

Eliason: Well our good friend Jerry Corsi from over at WND had an interesting statement here, of course he refers to Mr. Hagel: ‘A former Nobel Peace Prize nominee warns that Senate confirmation of Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense would send a message to Iran of weakened U.S. resolve, making it less likely America’s military might would in any way deter Iran’s nuclear ambitions.’

Schlafly: Well Jerry Corsi is very reliable and I would take his words very seriously, that’s absolutely true. I think it so dangerous to have Hagel as secretary of defense, who is trying to implement all of the pacifist ideas that Obama has.

Hagel is a Muslim? And Obama is a pacifist? Welcome to the alternate reality on Planet Wingnuttia, where a man who has engaged in a massive campaign of raining missiles on Muslims is both pro-Muslim and a pacifist. Apparently there’s a wingnut dictionary where those words mean entirely different things.

My neighbors know the neighborhood is better off since I have a minigun mounted on my roof.

“Jerry Corsi is very reliable”? Another detached-from-reality statement. The density of such statements in the transcription must be approaching the theoretical limit.

Ah, but to the Right, missile-armed drones are for peaceniks! REAL American presidents send easily-duped kids who are stupid enough to enlist into poorer, weaker, and less-Caucasian lands to slaughter and be slaughtered in the name of Mom, glory, Jesus, and FRREEEEDDDOOOM!

  4. composer99:

It’s like together they form a singularity of stupid, from which no intelligent thought can escape.

    Wasn’t that the power rangers?

  6. Larry:

Pacifist? Haven’t heard Obama called that one before. I guess Muslim-Keynan-Marxist-Hitler-Communist-Fascist have lost their cachet and the wingers are searching for a whole new set of adjectives to use.

It’s like looking through a window into the Mirror Universe. I keep expecting to see a version of myself without the goatee.

If proximity to a Nobel is grounds for listening to someone one this topic then I see your Nobel Peace Prize nominee and raise you* an actual fucking NPP winner.

    * is that the right use of the term?

  9. clayhale:

I like the phrase: “A former Nobel Peace Prize nominee”. That’s certainly a great credential, since anyone can be nominated, provided they are nominated by someone meeting the correct criteria. Pro-tip – Lou Gohmert is eligible to nominate someone.

    What!

It’s a long-standing wingnut meme that Obama wants to weaken America’s military. Apparently, it’s part of the preparation for when the 500 million Muslims he’s smuggled into the country rise up and impose socialism and Shariah law on us and force us all to gay marry illegal immigrants.

    And Soros.

“combine to form one giant moron”

    Moron Voltron? Morontron?

Oh my God, Reagan was Muslim!

And where the word “substance” means “whatever arglebargle I can pull out of my ass that will pass for it with morons.”

Yes, but really it’s nothing more than standard authoritarian reinforcement behavior.

    amazing spectacle, but quite predictable.

    [bolded by Heath]

Well since a mere nameless nominee thinks Hagel is wrong while Nobel Peace Prize winner President Barack Obama nominated Chuck Hagel we must defer to Mr. Obama if we’re to follow Eliason’s “logic”.

    @davefitz, #12:

That’s exactly what I thought: not WonderTwin powers, but Voltron powers.

Then I came across the same difficulty:

    Moltron?

It’s got all the necessary qualities to be a moron, but somehow it makes even less sense, reads as confused, and comes across as, well, supremely dumb.

While at the same time, all the qualities that make it just superbly dumb can, if you squint and insist on looking at it from the right perspective, be exactly the qualities that make it seem so ingenious!

    Right, so Moltron it is.

  18. redmann:

    “one giant moron”
Could it be the elusive Higgs Moron?

Only in Wingnuttia can Barack Obama be simultaneously a weak, ineffective president who is forever on the cusp of becoming the most oppressive and bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the human race.

  20. Area Man:

Only in Wingnuttia can Barack Obama be simultaneously a weak, ineffective president who is forever on the cusp of becoming the most oppressive and bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the human race.

It’s a corollary of the Great Wingnut Paradox: Liberals are weak, effeminate, incompetent losers who somehow control nearly all modern institutions, from academia to Hollywood, thus explaining why the strong, manly-man conservatives are constantly being denied their god-given right to rule.

  21. tommykey:

Area Man, as an atheist, the other one I like is when religious conservatives deride atheists as being so insignificantly few in number that we’re not worth paying attention to and then in the next breath claim we’re somehow undermining the country.

  22. martinc:

Eliason: Phyllis, there have been those that allege that Mr. Hagel has become or has been a part of Islam, he’s Islamic. What substance is on this thing?

Well Vic, judging by the smell, I think the substance you’re referring to is what we commonly call “bullshit”.

  23. chilidog99:

You can stop paying attention once Jerome Corsi’s name is mentioned.
