Lively: Censor and Discriminate Against Gays

The maniacally deranged Scott Lively is just thrilled about legislation being considered in Russia that would forbid the advocacy of gay rights. And he says he has the solution to the whole problem, which is to actively discriminate against gay people as the Bible demands.

On Jan. 25 of this year the Russian State Duma, its highest legislative body, voted to prohibit homosexual advocacy to children, following the enactment of similar legislation in a number of Russian cities, including St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk (the capital of Siberia). Go Ruskies!

The law he is raving about does far more than that. It also forbids all public demonstrations in favor of equality. Welcome to Lively’s theocratic wet dream.

As we were meeting, the main news of the week in all of the headlines was the pending vote on “gay marriage” in the British House of Commons. Across the channel, the very same scenario was playing out in France. And across the pond, the very last non-religious institution to publicly reject homosexuality in this country, the Boy Scouts of America, was about to vote on allowing homosexuals into membership and leadership. By the end of the week both Britain and France had fallen to the “gays” by sizable margins, and the Boy Scouts had postponed their decision (a hopeful outcome but far from a true pro-family victory).

To my mind, the events of the week were merely confirmation of the spiritual nature of the global “culture war” and further evidence of the biblical end times. I’m personally persuaded (though I could be wrong) that we have reached the age of apostasy warned about in Scripture and that events are rushing toward the grand conclusion detailed in prophecy.

So why the hell are you trying to stop it? If this is all happening because we’re in the end times, and the end times are when you get to go hang out with Jesus, why would you be against it? You’re thwarting God’s will. Why do you hate God?

“There is a way to win this war,” I conceded, but it so extraordinarily difficult that I don’t believe our people can bring themselves to do it. We need to completely reject the humanistic presuppositions of the debate on homosexuality as they now exist and get re-grounded in the presuppositions of the Bible. In short we cannot possibly create or even preserve public policy that implicitly or explicitly disapproves of homosexuality while conceding the anti-biblical premise that discrimination against homosexuals is morally and legally wrong. We must be able – and willing – to build all of our arguments on the premise that homosexuality itself is wrong and therefore homosexual “marriage,” “parenting,” etc., are wrong.

Nice to see him come out and admit that he is in favor of legal discrimination. And you’re going to love how he introduces himself in the letter he reprints at the bottom:

I am Dr. Scott Lively, president of Defend the Family International, a human-rights organization based near Los Angeles, Calif.

A human rights organization? And Orwell wept.

Not if he’s a postmillenialist (i.e. dominionist, theonomist, or whatever the hell they’re calling themselves these days). They maintain that the Kingdom of God has to be built by believers, the exact opposite of the sit-around-and-wait premillenialists that you’re probably picturing. Given Lively’s proactive and rather monstrous behavior, I’d place him in the dominionist camp. Premillenials are silly, but ultimately harmless.

Don’t believe the lies of the humanistic presuppositions! Believe the lies of the presuppositions of the Bible!

Sorry, Scott, but Steiner couldn’t amass sufficient forces to launch an attack.

Of COURSE they are a human rights group…Wait, wait, wait. Do you actually think teh gays are humans? How odd.

I momentarily misread the last line of the OP as “Define the Family International”. On reflection, given the apparent eagerness of such groups to define “family” as a full-time working father who owns a baby factory (sorry, I mean “is married to a stay-at-home mother”) and a steady supply of children to indoctrinate (sorry, I’ve done it again – “to bring up”), I’m not sure I did misread.

In the same way, @theschwa, in my more cynical moments it seems to me that some on the RR really would be happy to redefine “human”…

I think Mr. Lively’s worried that at his day of judgment, he’ll need to provide evidence that he fomented sufficient hatred towards gays.

He is just trying to protect everyone from those muscular manly gay who would surly force everyone to worship their manly bodies.
What, doesn’t everyone worry about that?

And just to be perfectly clear, the BSA is not the, “…last non-religious institution…,” either in practice or philosophy. Over the years the BSA has become increasingly tolerant of a broad spectrum of religious beliefs, so long as they include a belief in god. A large percentage of scout troops are sponsored by churches and other religious groups, and the BSA encourages worship to the extent of offering a variety of awards among various christian sects and non-christian religions for religious participation.

Yeah you do that, while you are at it reject all tech that has been invented since the bible has been written as well. You wouldn’t want to look like a cafeteria Xian and raving hypocrite now would you, fucking bigot.

Now just wait one gosh-darn minute. Is he saying that we should ONLY discriminate against TEH Gay? There are so many other sinful lifestyles currently allowed under law – shouldn’t we discriminate against them if we are to be good “Christians” as well? I mean, we allow Mormons and Jews and Hindus and Buddists and all kinds of “godless heathens” to walk among us and have civil rights. Shouldn’t we attack their lifestyle choices as well?

    /snark

It’s ironic that Adolf Lively is advocating censorship and discrimination against gays when he’d be screaming about “Christian persecution” if anybody so much as suggested the same be done against him.
