Jerry Boykin, the disgraced retired general and now Vice President of the Family Research Council, in a staggering lack of self-awareness that would make Bryan Fischer smile, went on the 700 Club and told Pat Robertson that his organization hasn’t gone out of their way to homosexuals.
“We have stood on traditional Christian values, the values that America was founded on, and we have stood for traditional marriage. We have not gone after homosexuals, we haven’t made a big issue of trying to condemn homosexuals. We’ve tried to support family issues, Pat, and part of that being the traditional American family and that’s based on our research that shows that the family is very critical to the health of the society.”
Jeremy Hooper rounds up a whole bunch of fanatical and bigoted anti-gay statements made by FRC officials over the years. Like Peter Sprigg saying this:
“I would much prefer to export homosexuals from the United States than to import them into the United States, because we believe that homosexuality is destructive to society.”
Or Family Research Council VP of Church Ministries Kenyn Cureton saying this:
“Who do you think is ultimately behind the efforts to advance the radical homosexual agenda, indoctrinate our children, and ruin our military, now? Who’s behind the efforts to get God out of government, Christ out of culture, and faith out of public life? Who’s behind it? Well, I think we’ve got a pretty clear answer. [laughter] The Devil is behind it! So, the real enemy…it’s not the poor, deluded souls who are advancing these ungodly agendas—they’re simply pawns in the hands of their malevolent master. They need to be set free by the grace of God in the person of Jesus Christ—amen?…As you think about this battle in which we’re engaged, you need to think about who the real enemy is that we’re fighting against here, and that is, the fact is, we’re up against the organized, mobilized, demonized forces of hell itself. And really, to the victor goes the prize of the America our children will inherit, so this is a fight we dare not lose. Amen?”
If claiming incessantly that gays are demon-possessed and out to destroy American and civilization itself is not going after homosexuals or making a big issue of condemning them, what the hell else could it be?
