Rush: The Commies are Coming, Led by Obama!

Erik Rush, the staggeringly stupid and delusional columnist for such outlets as the Worldnutdaily and the Canada Free Press, has another hysterical and inane column declaring Barack Obama — if he is who he says he is, he whispers — to be a communist. It starts with this bit of absurdity:

In his February 1 column, Dr. Steven Lambert reprinted in part a section of testimony that was given before the House of Representatives in 1963; this cited 45 declared goals the Communist Party in America had in their strategy for taking the country over. The entire reprint is available in several places online, so I won’t use up space to include them here.

What’s chilling is that while reading them, it quickly becomes apparent that most of the 45 goals have been achieved, in whole or in part, and they are well on the way to realizing those that have not.

Uh, yeah. Take a look at that link above and see which ones “have been achieved” or are on the verge of being achieved. Most of them have to do with our relationship to Soviet-dominated communist countries, nearly all of which no longer exist. Let’s look at a few of those alleged goals:

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

Wow, how shocking! We shouldn’t use nuclear weapons and spark a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Well guess what? We didn’t, and the Soviet Union collapsed and has been relegated to the dustbin of history.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

Which largely has been done — at the behest of the business community, not the tiny, irrelevant Communist Party USA, which has a few hundred members and zero influence. And guess what? Trade is a great way to avoid war. You know why we will never go to war with China? Because both countries have too much to lose that way.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

Nope, didn’t happen until long after they ceased being Soviet satellites. And such aid was encouraged by the right as a means of creating new allies where there were once only enemies.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N. [Though the demolition of the Berlin Wall was completed in 1991, to date, little else of substance has changed in Germany, particularly with respect to genuine democratization; it remains in every way a hybrid communistic nation.]

Um, what? Germany doesn’t have “genuine democratization”? In what possible sense?

You can see where all this is going. Rush links to an article that is simple idiotic in its claims. And then he adds his own:

Enter Barack Obama – or Barry Soetoro, Barry Soebarko, Bari Shabazz, or whatever his name truly is. A spoiled, narcissistic man-child with the heart of a street hustler, he is anointed by the radical intelligentsia as the one who can make that exponential leap, taking America from decades of soft socialism to an all-out, 21st-Century communist state. Indeed, it is a plan more ambitious than anything that was accomplished in Europe, whereby prosperous market economies and democracies were transformed into democratic socialist states. No, this will be more along the lines of what occurred in Russia or China, except that in the US, the radicals will have gained control of the infrastructure prior to seizing total power. I have already stated that there will be a bloodbath as this occurs.

Part of this has to do with the grandiosity of thinking and innate narcissism on the part of radicals like Obama, lusting for the “glory days” of communism and of those they have long-idolized. Part of it has to do with the hatred they hold for America and its people. They want to punish; in their arrogant and narrow perception of America as an oppressor nation, they want to see America’s children starving (at least for a while), her people diseased, terrorized, and pauperized on a scale dwarfing that of the Great Depression. Only then will citizens be sufficiently pliant; only then can the radicals remove their masks with impunity.

Ah yes, secret conspiracies to bring about a communist society. They’re like catnip for morons.

Where do the Masons, the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and Skull & Bones fit into this scenario?

  2. raven says

They really need to update their demonology.

    Communism is all but extinct.

I believe the commie equivalent today are the…Space Reptiles!!!

C’mon Rush, this is 2013. You’ve got to keep up with the times.

    WTF? Never encountered this one.

    [bold mine – MH]

I think it’s reasonable to read this to mean nigger.

And if Barack Obama is spoiled, what term do we use for George W. Bush?

  4. unbound says

Chicken Little has spoken. Although if we started calling Rush Limbaugh Henny Penny, he probably wouldn’t even know what that meant…

  5. tbp1 says

I have learned that, virtually always, the moment anyone mentions “communism” in a discussion about current politics, I can ignore pretty much anything and everything they say.

Similarly, if they attempt to be clever with the president’s name, I know they’re a moron.

“We didn’t, and the Soviet Union collapsed and has been relegated to the dustbin of history. We didn’t, and the Soviet Union collapsed and has been relegated to the dustbin of history.”

Don’t be so sure, I just got this email from Putin,

“We’re getting the band back together!’

  7. says

You owe me a new desk, Ed. I’ve slammed my head on this one so many times after reading the right wing crazy you post here that it just cracked through.

How about just one day of posting nothing but funny cat pictures? No wingnuttia allowed for 24 hours during a day of rest? An FTB sabbath of sorts, without the speaking in tongues or diddling of alter boys.

  8. says

I swear that the right wing hasn’t changed their rhetoric at all since sometime around the Carter Administration. They still rant about creeping communism, cradle to grave welfare, and affirmative action hiring quotas, despite none of those having existed in the U.S. for decades (Exactly how many decades varies).

  9. Scr... Archivist says

It’s amusing that Erik Rush is re-hashing something publicized by a Southern Democrat who (from what I have been able to discern) voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Far-right folks seem to like highlighting the truthiness that comes from being read into the Congressional Record, downplaying the claim’s actual origin. The list of 45 goals was written about in 1958 by right-wing conspiracist Cleon Skousen, who would later go on to be one of Glenn Beck’s heroes. The “warning” is older than forty years, and proportionally more obsolete.

  10. garnetstar says

Obama’s father, Malcom X, took the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz when he became a Muslim. So, here we have in one elegant slur, a name that means “Illegitimate radical Muslim nigger”.

Clearly Rush is a master of rhetoric, right up there with Hitch.

  11. says

“Hybrid communistic” = “those evil Krauts don’t consider being a communist to be a disqualifier for public office”. (Yes, there are actual communists in German government, although they’re part of a larger left-wing party that covers several different aspects of left-wing politics. And some of them even represent places like Dusseldorf.)

  12. lofgren says

The only reason Rush is convinced that the left hasn’t updated its political goals since 1963 is because the right hasn’t updated theirs since 1953.

  13. says

A spoiled, narcissistic man-child with the heart of a street hustler,

It never ceases to amaze me how wingnuts continue to rail against Clint Eastwood’s empty chair. They keep describing him in terms that make Obama sound like some kind love child of Malcolm X and Karl Marx, screaming angry diatribes against Whitey and demanding reparations “by any means necessary”. It doesn’t matter that there is nothing in Obama’s demeanor or actions to support this conclusion, they cling to this caricature to the exclusion of all reason.

I think this is a big reason why the republicans lost last year. People hear republicans describe this frothing radical and they look at the president, who comes across as more professorial than revolutionary, and they wonder who the hell the republicans are talking about.

  14. RubiconAZ says

As a fan of Rush (the rock band), I always think you are posting something about them since I know you are a fan. Could you please differentiate on your headline so I don’t get my hopes up for reading something cool as opposed to the same idiotic drivel from Rush L. or E. Rush?

  15. kesara says

[Though the demolition of the Berlin Wall was completed in 1991, to date, little else of substance has changed in Germany, particularly with respect to genuine democratization; it remains in every way a hybrid communistic nation.]

    Wow… just…. wow.
I have no words to describe this idiocy, but this comes close.

  16. dugglebogey says

Did he not get the memo? We’re not spreading fear of communism anymore. Now it’s terrorists.

Get with the fucking program, asshole.

  17. kesara says

    @BrianX #14:

(Yes, there are actual communists in German government, although they’re part of a larger left-wing party that covers several different aspects of left-wing politics. And some of them even represent places like Dusseldorf.)

Not really, the german left party get´s usually around 5% of the votes in the federal election and was never part of a government coalition on the federal level (although they have been part of government coalitions on the state level in four of the former GDR states – Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Berlin and Brandenburg). The left party has a communist platform, but they are fringe and have close to zero influence (in a party that itself has little influence on the state level and no influence on the federal level whatsoever).

  18. John Hinkle says

Obama probably – like most of us – dabbled in “communism” back in college. But unlike Clinton, he had the balls to inhale.

  19. Nepenthe says

    @garnetstar

El-Hajj is an honorific for those who’ve completed the Hajj. X didn’t start using it until 1964.

  20. says

    Bari Shabazz.

He was named after the Southern Italian city where he was born. Obama’s father was a leader of the Bari section of the PCI.

  21. says

    What kesara said about #14.

To call Social Democrats communist is a huge offense to them, just look up German history.

The Left Party also is not really a communist party, and currently is part of ONE state government (out of 16).

There are a couple of communist parties in Germany, the most prominent among them being the DKP (German Communist Party), but it has been criticised by more ideologically pure parties such as the MLPD (Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany) for trying to justify the GDR…

  22. dingojack says

Dr X – Nah, he was named after his real birthplace, Barry in Wales*.
    FoAW notes:

The main feature of the area at this time [the medieval period] was the island in the Bristol Channel, separated from the mainland by a tidal estuary. It is described in Giraldus Cambrensis or Gerald of Wales’ Itinerarium Cambriae (“Journey through Wales”, 1191). He states that Barry derives its name from St. Baruc whose remains are deposited in a chapel on the island. The local noble family who owned the island and the adjoining estates took the name of de Barri from the island. [emphasis mine]

    I rest my case.

@5: I see you’re “unbound” from actually reading the article you’re commenting on (i.e., the mixup between which” Rush Ed was referring to).

  24. says

You guys are getting it all wrong!! This isn’t modern politics he’s talking about, he’s writing Alternative History stories! This is all some grand marketing ploy to hook readers for his upcoming novel! (I guess it takes another AltHist writer like me to recognize it.)

We need a new term for this kind of Alt Hist Poe, pretending his stuff is real. Oh, wait, we do: WND.
