As part of his new wingnut paradise in Texas, Glenn Beck says he wants to change the way we celebrate the 4th of July, starting this year. No more fireworks, hot dogs, beer or Bruce Springsteen. Because he hates America, unlike Glenn Beck, who loves America and is a Brave Purveyor of Truth.
Yeah! Bruce Springsteen hates America! That’s why he wrote Born in the USA, a song about a Vietnam vet who returns home to be mistreated and struggle to find work. Pointing out the mistreatment of Vietnam vets? Why do you hate America, Bruce?
You should watch this video, too, in which Beck explains his plans for the 4th of July in more detail. It includes some sort of production called The Man in the Moon: An American Story (From the Moon’s Perspective). Listening to him talk about is really kind of creepy.

Ah, Beck the dreck is just sore because Springsteen supported Obama in the election and because he is the hero of RINO New Jersey Governor Cristie. When is he going to go after George Clooney?

The man is delusional. I love how he’s tapped experts from Disney, the Muppets, and Industrial Light and Magic to help tell his childish fable about a personified moon sitting in judgement of mankind’s hubris. (Beck seems to ignore notable females.) It’s as if Michael Bay decided to film a Chick tract.

Jon Stewart did an extended riff on Beck’s libertarian paradise a couple weeks ago. Beck kept talking about green spaces and getting rid of backyards so everyone would hang out together and create community. And he was talking about making sure everyone ate nutritious food. The entire time I couldn’t stop thinking, “Wait, this guy is against Agenda 21, right?”
True authoritarian mindset: it’s good because we said it’s good. It’s bad if we didn’t say it was good. Even if we’re saying the same damn thing.

Now, I’m not huge on fireworks and the general whatnot of Independence Day (which, incidentally, is what the holiday is called – does Beck know this?), nor am I particularly a Springsteen fan, but what? What the hell?

Beck is right because he’s rich, which in fundie/authoritarian land means that he’s a smart job creator who has found favor from god. Because only Jesus freaks ever get rich. (Ignore Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs, and etc., they’ll get theirs any day now, and if they don’t they’ll still burn forever ‘n ever so there).

I recently watched The Master. Phillip Seymour Hoffman brilliant portrayal reminded me as much of L Ron Hubbard as Glenn Beck, who has all of the characteristics of a national cult leader.
