Major Corporations Call for DOMA Repeal

The Human Rights Campaign has announced the formation of a new business coalition that is calling for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. Interestingly, the list of companies includes Marriott, which is owned by Mormons who have long supported the Republican party (in fact, Mitt Romney is on their board of directors). Read more

GOP Congressman Offers Bizarre Constitutional Amendment

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), one of the Republican congressmen swept into office by the Tea Party movement in 2010, might want to read that constitution he claims to revere so much. He’s proposing a constitutional amendment that allows the impeachment of the president if the budget is not balanced. Read more

Christian Pastor Sentenced in Iran

Iran has sentenced Iranian-American Christian minister Saeed Abedini to eight years in prison, prompting the U.S. State Department to issue a strong condemnation of that action. Abedini was born in Iran and converted from Islam to Christianity, then came to the U.S. and became an American citizen. He has gone back to Iran many times to evangelize and to build an orphanage, but was arrested last year on his last visit. Read more
