Nevada Republican Pleads Guilty to Voter Fraud

A Republican from Las Vegas who tried to vote twice in the November election has reached a plea deal to pay a pretty big fine. She claims she was just trying to illustrate how easy it was to commit voter fraud, but the fact that she was denied a ballot the second time kind of proves otherwise, don’t you think?

A Nevada Republican arrested for voter fraud in the 2012 election, after claiming she was trying to test the system’s integrity, pled guilty and accepted a plea deal Thursday, forcing her to pay almost $2,500 and promise to stay out of trouble.

Roxanne Rubin, 56, a casino worker on the Las Vegas Strip, was arrested on Nov. 3, 2012 after trying to vote twice, once at her poling site in Henderson and then at a second site in Las Vegas. The poll workers at the second site said that she had already voted, but Rubin said that she hadn’t and insisted on casting a ballot, which the poll workers refused to allow her to do.

Rubin said that she was trying to show how easy it would be to commit voter fraud with just a signature. “This has always been an issue with me. I just feel the system is flawed,” she told the AP Thursday. “If we’re showing ID for everything else, why wouldn’t we show our ID in order to vote?”

But voter ID has nothing to do with voting twice, it is intended to stop voter impersonation, so there are really only two choices: A) she’s lying or B) she’s an idiot. And even if she’s telling the truth, the fact that she was prevented from committing voter fraud even without Nevada having a voter ID law shows that her claim of a voter fraud problem is false.

Nov 6, 2012 – An election worker in Oregon is facing a criminal investigation for allegedly … RELATED: PA voting machine ‘taken out of service’ for flipping votes to Romney. In a press release on Monday, Clackamas County spokesperson Tim Heider … County announced that the altered ballots would not be counted.

There was another case in Oregon. Some election worker was filling in blank spots for…Republicans.

Technically this is electoral fraud rather than voter fraud. So what.

Most cases of voter or electoral fraud I’m aware of have involved….Republicans.

The cognitive dissonance is strong with this one.

“Look, this knife isn’t sharp, and I’m going to prove it by stabbing myself with it.”
    *knife slides easily into lung*
“… Okay, yeah, sure, but this knife still isn’t sharp.”

I’m starting to really be in awe of the republican strategy. The GOP is screaming about how frequently Dems commit voter fraud (despite no evidence supporting the claim). What is the result? A bunch of stupid terrified Republicans justifying their fraud in order to counteract the fraud they believe to be taking place.

I wonder how many of these nuts got away with it in the name of “proving how easy it is for Democrats to cheat the system”.

You have to hand it to them, some of their political strategy is terrifyingly effective.

I just read of another case of a bemused Republican in another state (forget which) who also tried to vote twice to prove how much fraud there is.

He didn’t get to vote the second time, and has been charged with a fourth-degree felony.

    @ #1

Which just shows how dumb they are, since they would have to flip a couple hundred thousand votes to change the result in Oregon.

The amusing thing (to me) is they seem to be going out of their way to claim they are stupid. Their logic appears to be: “well, I didn’t get away with it, but its still really easy to do and I’m sure lots of Democrats did it.”

I know how she feels, I tried the same thing in Vegas. Walked right up to the roulette table, grabbed a rack of black chips, and walked to the door with them. Security stopped me, and would you believe their nerve, they didn’t believe I was just trying to show how easily their money could be stolen? I even offerred to wave my security consulting fee, but they stuck with the ridiculous idea that I was actually trying to steal from them.

Ingrates. Keep speaking truth to power Ms. Rubin!

I’m going to guess “none”. Since they were trying to show how easy it is for political effect, if they had gotten away with it, they’d be trumpeting the fact in every wingnut media outlet there is. We haven’t heard any such reports, so I’m pretty sure there’s no successful fraudsters.

Let’s take a hard look at how this could go wrong. Somebody shows up at the polls, claims to be me, and votes. I show up a bit later and the poll workers say I’ve already voted. Now what happens? Presumably they check a signature and I don’t get charged with a felony, but is there any way to nullify the spoofed vote or identify the imposter? (I’m in WA where votes are mailed in, so it doesn’t happen this way here.)

Never, ever forget option C) All of the above.

    [nit-pick]

… the fact that she was prevented from committing voter fraud even without Nevada having a voter ID law shows that her claim of a voter fraud problem is false.

    Not quite.

It shows that she was unable to get a sample of size 1 to support her position.

Her inability to do so doesn’t prove her position false.

Nit-picky, I know. But I hold you lot (self included) to a higher standard on this sort of thing.
