Catholic Traditionalist Declares Jews ‘Enemies’

The leader of the Society of St. Pius X, a traditionalist Catholic organization that has been essentially declared heretical by the Roman Catholic Church, went on a radio show recently and declared Jews to be enemies of the church. HuffPo reports:

Bishop Bernard Fellay, head of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X, declared Jews “enemies of the Church” during a talk that aired on a Canadian radio station, the Catholic News Agency recently reported. Fellay’s remarks took place on Dec. 28 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel in New Hamburg, Ontario.

Fellay, discussing negotiations with the Vatican in 2012 concerning the Society’s future, said the following during the address: “Who, during that time, was the most opposed that the Church would recognize the Society? The enemies of the Church. The Jews, the Masons, the Modernists.”

Fellay said Jewish leaders’ support of the Second Vatican Council “shows that Vatican II is their thing, not the Church’s,” according to the Catholic Register.

This isn’t the same group that Mel Gibson belongs to, but it’s part of the same Sedevacantist movement that formed in reaction to Vatican II.

These are the wackos my parents sympathise with. The problem with dogma, is that you get these strange people who actually want to adhere to it.

What they mean by “modernism”. It’ll blow your mind.

  3. Mr Ed:

I think he’s on to something. I remember reading about this orthodox Jewish rabbi who lived about 2000 years ago. Seems he had a bunch of new ideas too. can’t have good Christians listening to anything that a Jew might endorse

Jews, Masons, and Modernists aren’t the only enemies of the church. In fact I would say that the church is its own worst enemy.

You’re letting the Cat-lickers off the hook pretty easily there.
Vatican rejects rebel bishop’s denunciation of Jews

Fellay was among four SSPX bishops who were excommunicated from 1988 to 2009, when Pope Benedict reinstated them.
Talks between the SSPX and the Vatican to reintegrate them fully into Church structures ended in failure last year because the SSPX refused to accept Council reforms – including Rome’s reconciliation with the Jews – as valid Catholic teaching.

So they were considered heretical, but Pope Benny reversed that. He should shoulder some of the blame.

One of the major talking points of Catholic apologists who argue for the superiority of Catholicism over all other Christian religions is that the Catholic religion is unified and clear. Unlike the contentious Protestants with their sola scriptura and factions which constantly splinter and go off into all different directions, the Catholic Church remains whole and consistent. One central authority, one core interpretation, one method of deciding what is right and what is wrong — just as God would want. What better evidence that this is the true theology of God’s own church than the fact that there is ( and can be) such harmony?

Heretics. They throw out Catholic heretics such as the Society of St. Pius X — and of course these heretics insist that no, THEY are the True Catholics and the folks in Rome are all a bunch of splitters. How is this any different than “what the Protestants do?” It isn’t. They’re just using a double standard. What a surprise.

Unless we agree upfront that the majority view or a selected person in power is always right, there is no reason why objective outsiders should agree that Pope Ratzinger speaks for the REAL Catholic religion, and that the others are all heretics God would not recognize. Since the critical measure is this one concerning God’s approval, there is no final court of appeal on whether the current pope in Rome is the final court of appeal.

So much for the vaunted Catholic “harmony.”

And of course the Jews are the enemies of the Church, and of God. So are the Muslims and the Hindus and the pagans and the atheists and everyone else who doesn’t accept the True worship and understanding of God. The modern Catholic Church is simply polite enough to not say this out loud, or so explicitly.

    Dateline January 24, 2009:
    Pope Reinstates Four Excommunicated Bishops

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI, reaching out to the far-right of the Roman Catholic Church, revoked the excommunications of four schismatic bishops on Saturday, including one whose comments denying the Holocaust have provoked outrage.

Archbishop Lefebvre made the men bishops in unsanctioned consecrations in Switzerland in 1988, prompting the immediate excommunication of all five by Pope John Paul II.

Later that year, Benedict, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, sought to regularize the church’s relationship with the society. And as pope, he has made reinstating the Lefebvrists an important personal cause.

Father Lombardi called the revocation of the excommunications a fundamental step toward the unity of the church, after two decades of rift. “We have to consider it very positive news,” he said. He said that Benedict had “greatly suffered” at the group’s excommunication and had long been “a protagonist in relations with Lefebvre.”

    Way to go, Mr. Infallible.

  11. Reginald Selkirk:

dingojack #9: Do these troublesome priests accept the Catholic doctrine that on matters spiritual the Pope is god’s earthly mouthpiece?

I think you have that backwards. Jesus H. Christ said to Peter, the bishop of Rome and therefore the first pope:

Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Matt 18:18)

Catholic doctrine holds that this power passes from Peter to subsequent popes. So, it is the pope setting the doctrine, and Jesus is charged with implementing it in Heaven.

  12. dingojack:

So jesus is the pops’s co-pilot?

If Catholic churches are supposed to be uniform, how do “traditionalist” Catholics identify which churches carry the traditionalist line? It’s not like Protestant churches where you can just sort by denomination, movement, the “what we believe” page on their website, etcetera.

Is there some kind of “tell” people look for, or do they just shop around in person?

  14. richardelguru:

Pius X is that like Malcolm X?

  15. shouldbeworking:

    The pope is infallible.
A pope brings about Vatican II.
    Vatican II is evil.
We know what is right, the pope doesn’t

    Makes sense to me.

  16. plutosdad:

In 2009 the Pope rescinded the excommunication of Fellay and 3 other similar bishops. That tells us something – obsessed with gay sex and vaginas, but welcoming back into the fold Holocaust deniers who think Vatican II was a big step backward.

  17. Zeno:

“Traditionalist” Catholics are a hoot. They are examples of being “more Catholic than the pope,” totally devoted to the good old days of the Latin mass and incense and priests facing the altar (instead of the congregation) and papal infallibility and stuff like that. Except that they refuse to obey the pope in matters of faith, which is supposed to be the only thing papal infallibility applies to! They want a pope who repudiates Vatican II and rolls the calendar back to 1957, when Pius XII was pope (and before John XXIII started to screw things up between 1958 and 1963). The Pius X Society is loaded with traditional antisemitism and it’s Benedict XVI’s own fault that he lifted the ban of excommunication in his over-eagerness to bring them back on board. His initial gesture was much too generous and the Pius X Society bishops have done nothing but kick him in the nuts ever since. The pope also issued a decree making the Latin mass more generally available, acceding to a key demand of the traditionalists. Another mistake, because now they accuse anyone who attends the modern Novus Ordo mass of not fulfilling their Sunday obligation and refuse to attend Novus Ordo masses themselves. Stupid Benny Hex.

The dingbats of dingbats in this cult is…or was before his nefarious antics insured the ensuing publicity bit the societies ample arse’s and smeared Benny baby as anti-Semitic and which culminated in getting his own ample arse kicked out the door…but not excommunicated…go figure!…….a Richard Nelson Williamson.

Charming little jeebus drooler this one is!

“I believe that the historical evidence is strongly against, is hugely against six million Jews having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler.
I think that 200,000 to 300,000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps, but none of them in gas chambers.”

And he also…surprise surprise holds exactly the same opinions as Bishop Bernard Fellay, his erstwhile boss that actually kicked young master Dickie into touch for publicly revealing the true essence of the St. Pius X.

    It goes deeper.

Benny baby….He reversed his predecessors decision to kick the society from Traditional RCC escapades.
Because they were a little to big for their boots in doctrinal terms.
Anyway citing a wish to a reconciliation after 30 odd years Benny felt that it would unite a church so they could all advance together…or some such twaddle….

The outlook of the St.Pius X cretins was, and is, well known for all that time.
Three days before the great re-union ‘Dickie’ could not control himself and made the statements above to a TV interview.

The backlash was of course rather inconvenient, and fingers and suspicions levelled at Benny, considering his chequered youth, the Vatican’s response was priceless, despite the evidence and former declarations plastered all over the internet and the media and the general public knowledge about the Pius X attitude they straight faced claimed they had no inkling of their attitude.
They played it down saying basically it was one man’s interpretation of history, but …

“Vatican officials stated that they had not been aware of Williamson’s views prior to the lifting of the excommunication as a result, in a July 2009 Vatican reorganization, the Pope tightened control and supervision over reconciliation efforts with SSPX.”

‘Dickie’ had been kicked to the curb last year and negotiations are ongoing for reconciliation…again!

Seems he was just to free with their doctrinal beliefs in public…very embarrassing!
But they have learnt nothing because surprise surprise…Fellay pops up spouting the same rhetoric that ‘dickie’ did and does!

Thing is ‘dickie’ has been relieved from duty, but not actually ‘fired’ from the cult.
When, or if, he issues a public apology for his remarks that is acceptable to his poopness then all will be kittens and roses in Vatican city, so far he has failed to issue any such retraction, he said he had to reassess the information he had received but no apology and certainly no retraction…that was several years back…so far zilch!

It is like a very badly written dime novel with an ultra tacky plot…absolutely stunning in its banality.

  19. shouldbeworking:

The apology was sent via the traditional methods. The courier’s donkey is lost trying to cross the Alps.

  20. Raging Bee:

So, first the Church declared them heretics. Then the Church tried to negotiate with them but failed. Then the Church reinstated them. That’s gotta be the most pathetic, spineless, blatant capitulation to reich-wing loonies I’ve ever heard of. This makes the Church look even more wretched than it looked otherwise.

Oh, and what is a “Sedevacantist?” Someone who makes himself vacant? Someone who sits in a position of vacancy? I’m sure the real answer to that question will be just as meaningless as any other theological term I’ve heard.

  21. Raging Bee:

Pius X is that like Malcolm X?

No. Malcolm was a considerably more sane and decent person than Pius.

  22. billdaniels:

Sedevacantism come from two Latin words, sede meaning seat and vacantis meaning vacant. In English it means the seat is vacant, The seat is symbolically the throne of Peter that the pope now occupies. Sedevacantasists insist that the pope is not a real pope, so there is no pope. His seat is vacant.

    I hope this helps.

  23. Reginald Selkirk:

Sedevacantasists insist that the pope is not a real pope, so there is no pope…

Well it’s easy to understand how the guy sitting in that vacant seat would want to make up with people who believe that. Not.

Well maybe that big ‘n’ bouncy Benny baby figures that there are more things they have in common then what divides them.

What does really stump me is that why would Benny want to get the RCC so much grief over basically four barking literalistic bozos that were kicked out years ago?

I mean it is not as if Pius X have a vast following accruing, even growing, that are a threat to split the communion swag in any diocese, they have no voice, no power base, and are no threat of any kind….except of fostering atheism of course!

This is a crisis and embarrassment for the RCC brewed and distilled by Benny baby alone!
Pius X are deranged and that has been known before Benny manipulated himself into the hot seat.
Yet the Vatican are determined to get them back in the stable along with the other broken down nags they got for doctrinal outriders!
    I find it …odd!
Because Benny has succeeded in alienating the goodwill of the C of E over pillaged bishops…the Jewish council over this holocaust denial mob he wants to reintegrate, and the Muslims for denigrating their religion some time ago and managed spectacularly to really piss off the rank and file over the endemic kiddy fiddlers in their ranks!
He ain’t exactly making friends and influencing people is he?

Unless of course Benny has real sympathies for Pius X’s position…and that is really a stretch….or maybe not!

  26. susans:

And in other news, most Jews could not possibly care less about what these morons think about us.

  27. jbrock:

A couple of nitpicks here. First, while SSPX exhibit a certain amount of sympathy for sedevacantists, they seem to stop short of taking that position themselves. At least that holds true for their leaders, if you can get past all the tl;dr-ity of their official bloviations. When it comes to the rank and file, things may well be a lot more ambiguous. Second, as far as I’ve ever been able to tell the RC hierarchy consider SSPX schismatic (on a par with, e.g., the Eastern Orthodox) rather than heretical (like, for example, Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons).

Don’t get me wrong; SSPX are arguably batshit crazy. But the RCC, at least in its current form, uses the term “heresy” rather more technically than Atheists are likely to do.
