Bryan Fischer Award Nominee: Peter LaBarbera

The Bryan Fischer Award is given to those with an incredibly lack of self-awareness and irony, constantly projecting their own most obvious traits onto others. Peter LaBarbera, one of the most virulent and appalling bigots in the country not named Fred Phelps, clearly earned that award in a conversation with equally bigoted nutball Ken Hutcherson:

LaBarbera: You can tell what Piers Morgan’s religion is and one of the sacraments is homosexuality, I mean he is obsessed.

Wow. No one is more obsessed with homosexuality than Peter LaBarbera. He thinks about gay sex more than gay people think about gay sex. He’s devoted his entire life to demonizing them and justifying discrimination against them.

Hutcherson brought his personal crazy to the conversation too:

Kirkwood: Rick Warren went on to say how many millions of dollars he’s given to the cause of HIV/AIDS and how he’s worked closely with gay organizations on that. My comment on that is you could give millions of dollars for that cause without having to be unequally yoked and be in fellowship with darkness, without having to work with organizations that openly boast about their sexual perversion.

Hutcherson: There are so many organizations out there, Exodus International, I don’t know if they are continuing to hold on to their strong point but he could’ve given millions of dollars at the time to Exodus International.

LaBarbera: Well we wouldn’t support that now because they are starting to slide. John makes a good point, even a lot of AIDS groups, it’s like the point of faith, it’s not really faith of course, is pro-homosexuality.

Kirkwood: I think he was trying to establish his street cred with homosexuals because then he came out and said, ‘I have many, many homosexual friends.’ Marc Lamont Hill said, ‘I get the love part about AIDS but what about this’?

Hutcherson: I think the correct statement would be one that we make: we’re friends with many, many ex-homosexuals. That should be the statement because homosexuals are not going to stay around me if they don’t want to change.

No, you aren’t friends with many, many ex-homosexuals. There is no such thing. Your ex-gay friends are as imaginary as your god.

They’re not imaginary: they’re very real liars

StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return!

Or people in torment and self- denial blaming themselves for being who they and what they are.

No, Ed, you’re entirely missing the point. Peter is not obsessed with gay people or gay sex, Peter is making a sacrifice. He’s making that sacrifice every time he attends a gay event and had to take out his camera to “document the decadence.” He’s making that sacrifice year in and year out, attending the same kinky gay events and “documenting the decadence,” even though that decadence really doesn’t change from year to year. And at these events (and this is the truly brave part), he has to move among crowds of sweaty gay men, many of whom are exhibiting homosexual behavior right in front of his eyes – and he has to watch that.

I’m telling you, he does all this so you don’t have to, and you should thank him.

” I think the correct statement would be one that we make”

That’s probably the only factual thing in that whole conversation.

cptdoom @4: He does the street fairs now because it was too hard to get good documentation of what was going on in the back rooms of those bars he used to frequent.

I am just relieved to see somebody new stepping up to claim the Bryan Fischer Award. Thanks to visionaries like Peter LaBarbera, Ed isn’t faced with the agonizingly redundant monthly announcement of ‘the eponymous winner’.
