Right Wing Watch reports that James Dobson aired a sermon on his regular radio show, Family Talk, by Pastor Laurence White of the Texas Restoration Project, who claims that the Holocaust was caused by separation of church and state and that God should destroy America if we don’t end abortion:
Once again the nation is being led down the path to destruction and once again by and large God’s people are looking the other way. I don’t have to tell anyone in this room tonight how far that path to destruction we’ve already traveled. You see the evidence in families that are fractured and marriages that are broken; in young people that lose their way and often their lives in a maze of alcohol and drugs; in a culture that can no longer distinguish between lust and love; that is willing to tolerate the vilest perversion as an “alternative, acceptable lifestyle” while pestilence stalks the land; in public schools that have become facilitators for fornication and procurers for the abortionist knife; in a nation that has lost the moral will to distinguish between that which is right and that which is wrong: we know all too well how far down that road to destruction we have already gone…
We can win the next election or the next ten elections, we can balance the budget, we can reduce the deficit, we can bring down taxes and build the mightiest military machine on the face of the earth, but if we do not stop abortion then God will destroy and God should destroy America.
But remember, if a non-wingnut suggests that American has ever done anything wrong, they’re America-haters and probably communists too.

So God is the enemy of the United States? And Dobson (if you believe his claims) is working for God? Meaning that Dobson is giving aid to the enemies of this country, the very definition of treason?

This diatribe is the kind of flailing about we should expect when a previously successful marketing strategy begins to fail. In this case that would be the decreasing ability of conservative religious leaders to bring a sufficient number of voters to the polls to maintain their influence and power.
Abortion as a litmus test may be suffering decreasing returns. All successful strategies ultimately fail, simply because conditions change. So I wonder what’s changed? Perhaps younger conservative Christians are less likely to vote for a candidate based only on their stance on abortion. Perhaps younger conservative Christian voters aren’t sufficiently replacing the ones dying of old age.

Wait, so did god create the US to be a shining city on a hill and to be an ally of Israel to usher in the End Times, or are we just another heathen empire doomed for destruction? Christians really need to get their stories straight.

Why do religions always claim to be “the religion of peace” yet have one of their primary goals to raise mighty armies?

You know, I was going to ask if anybody here knew what the Nazi Party’s specific stance on abortion was — and then I realized that it didn’t matter. Hitler could have held dozens of rallies calling for the end of abortion and the American Religious Right wouldn’t change their analogies or talking points one iota.
Because they equate every fertilized egg, at any and every stage, not just with a full-term baby, but with a human being per se (well, the ones they approve of, the “innocent” ones.) Aborted fetus = Jew sent to concentration camp showers. They wouldn’t care if Nazi Germany actually sent abortionists to the showers. They’d still see themselves as freedom fighters.

Because “peace” requires that we purge the unspiritual, those who fail to reflect the nature of God the right way and thus cause disharmony.
Even many of the religions which claim to be pacifist only do so because they believe that the divine army and vengeance will be sufficient to fight and vanquish the wicked.

It is my information that the National Socialist Party in Germany proposed to make abortion illegal during the 1932 elections there.

@Sastra #7 – Since you asked….
The NSDAP held that the Aryan people must rule the world. That required many more ethnically and ideologically pure Aryans than existed at the time, so the party instituted what could only be called a breeding program, encouraging Aryan women to have as many children as they physically could. Women who could not or would not conceive and bring to term were a waste of wartime resources. Any Aryan woman who had an abortion, and any doctor who aborted the child of an Aryan woman, faced the death penalty.

I think you have hit the nail squarely upon the thumb. This election cycle was probably the high water mark for the influence of the religious right. I have heard that the retention rates for young fundamentalists is on the order of 30% and that they are increasingly fed up with the moral stance of their parents (beyond the usual youthful rebellion).

A lot of fundies openly hate the USA and the US government.
They so so themselves and quite often.
Some of them want to set up an
Islamicxian theocracy. Since that didn’t happen in the last election many of them now want to secede from the USA.elysehart

Several commenters have already said it.
IIRC, Hitler wanted a lot more of the Aryan master race and a whole lot less of the inferior races. Abortion for German women was outlawed.

Dobson’s Focus on Hating Everyone’s intake of loot has been down for years. They’ve had several rounds of layoffs. Being a hater just isn’t as profitable as it once was.
It’s no secret that US xianity is dying. Even the fundies, not known for their intelligence, are starting to figure it out.
It’s my impression that the fundies and Catholic hierarchy are getting more and more extreme as they see water cascading over the sides of their leaky old boat. Which is rather silly. It will just make the decline go faster.
There really aren’t all that many people who want to go back to the Dark Ages. The joy of slaughtering your pagan, atheist, apostate, heretic, and single mother neighbors is outweighed by the fact that you will be poor and have a short lifespan.

According to Huffpo, Dobson was pushed out of Focus on Hating Everyone.
The new head is Jim Daly. Oddly enough, he calls Jerry Falwell, D.J. Kennedy, and Dobson “venomous personalitites”.
He is right but it isn’t going to make much difference. The whole fundie universe is run by vaguely humanoid toads.

Pick two. Achieving all four at once is impossible.
I’m sure our “liberal media” will now devote the next month to discussing how Dobson’s anti-American rhetoric has influenced the thinking of the various republicans he’s advised over the years. Right?

“…but if we do not stop abortion then God will destroy and God should destroy America.”
Legal abortion (yes, I know that White didn’t mention the “legal” part, but I think that’s what he meant) hasn’t been “stopped” for almost 40 years (Roe vs. Wade)…and America is still around. God must have a pretty short fuse.
