Farah: God is Going to Destroy America

Joseph Farah continues his drumbeat of whackadoodleism, saying that God is going to destroy America just like he did ancient Israel because we have turned from him, thrown him out, shaken our fists at him, slapped him in the face, who the hell knows what. And there’s one line in this column that absolutely cracks me up:

Do you want to know where America is today in historical and biblical terms?

It’s where ancient Israel was before being destroyed by God.

In Hosea 8, God speaks to the prophet about the precipice on which Israel stands: “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.”

We are in full apostasy boogie.

Wasn’t that a KC and the Sunshine Band song? If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go put on my apostasy boogie shoes.

It sounds like that Bible verse might make for an interesting one to point out to people who are religious nuts and strongly in favor of returning to the gold standard. After all, their veneration of gold verges on Idolatry….

    Good!

The world will be a much better, happier place without the United States of AmeriKKKa, Inc. poisoning the and killing the poor with it economic policies while corroding science with its Christianity. Any horror that could befall us would be worth it as long as I got to watch Farrah and every capitalist, every theist, every flag-waving jingoistic died slooooowly in hunger, disease, agony, and despair.

    Death to America!

    Well thanks.

But you do realize that the Deity has a notoriously poor aim and doesn’t care about collateral damage.

Chances are, Canada and Mexico are going with us.

Well, since God is supposedly everywhere, this morning in the shower I gave my ass a good shake in his direction.

In fact, if god is everywhere, then he’s in my underwear – that means I’ve got my balls pressed up against his face right now. If he didn’t want my balls pressed against his face, he shouldn’t have decided to be omnipresent! He was asking for it, really. Look at the way he was dressed!

Makes you wonder what the meteor that dug out the Gulf ff Mexico was actually aimed at.

If we are to be subject the the Old Testament god, should we not all have converted to Judaism. If we are going New Testament than god has more reason to be pissed at the European Union than the more Christian USA. Oh I forgot, the US is the center of god’s universe, its pleasure and anger only are manifest here. It’s not as if folks in the US could be self centered or anything like that.

Few sights are as laughable as Joseph Farah talking about religion.

I thought God was supposed to destroy us six years ago when we all started getting gay married up here.

We did get the Harper government, but it’s not exactly been the Apocalypse I was promised…

Your analysis here is every bit as good as WND’s. If this was instead snark, it failed miserably, at least with me.

    Abdul Alhazred,

God is going to destroy America. The Democrats are going to destroy America. Ergo, the Democrats are God :D

Given how doomed the USA apparently is, you’d think people like Farah would be moving out of the way of all this impending wrath. Maybe they realise how crap their god’s aim is, and know they’re probably safer staying put while he swings and misses yet again!

This is interesting. Farah quotes Hosea from the Old Testament but, as Ed has pointed out, in the the New Testament, Paul says:

“For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God … for [the one who is in authority] is God’s servant for your good” (Rom. 13:1, 4, ESV).

And here I thought Farah was a Christian.

    Ed Brayton,

It seems that according to the religious right, God is always going to destroy America.

I trust that when the U.S. comes out of its recession and carries on, thanks to Democratic policies, this Farah person will admit that God does not exist?

And here I thought it was the liberals, teh ghey, et al., who were destroying America. I and many others kept saying it was God, but no, these idiots wouldn’t listen. Now they want to twist it all up and claim that they were the ones to realize this first.

Like the way I miss corn flakes when they aren’t in my bed anymore?

If it is just the people that are to be destroyed, dibs on some swamp land in Florida.
And can I personally send Las Vegas back to the grains of sand whence it came? Pleeeeeeese!

GOD is going to destroy America. Well, that pretty much covers everthing from Prudhoe Bay to Patagonia.

I’d say that GOD is already in the process, having punched in on July 6,1954–Pornstache Joe’s birth date.

No, it’s wasn’t snark. Just my daily primal scream of anger and disappointment in this country and it’s citizens. Nothing is changing, and what little change may come will be too little too late.

    Nothing is changing

I completely sympathize, but I believe that this incorrect perception is a product of your understandably depressed mood.

Just talking about social and political progress, and putting scientific and medical progress aside, the following changes have occurred in the relatively recent past…

Bill of Rights, Emancipation Proclamation, women get the vote, New Deal, Brown vs. Board of Education, Civil Rights Act, Americans With Disabilities Act, DADT (originally an improvement over the prior situation) and repeal of DADT, gay marriage in many jurisdictions, American with African physical features elected president, marijuana prohibition ended in Colorado and Washington (sounds trivial but could be the beginning of the end of WOD), etc.

Things constantly change, sometimes for the worse, but sometimes for the better.

We are making princes who He knows not. And we are making idols of material things, so that we may be cut off.

But enough about the republican party and their worship of the wealthy with their pursuit of material things (like car elevators), how do you feel about the election?

If the Almighty Bible-monster is going to destroy America, why don’t the people who know his plans move to another country to avoid it?

“They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not”

This strange confession of ignorance by a traditionally omniscient God might explain the Republican pundit forecasting of the election result … they had God-with-his-crystal-ball-switched-off whispering in their ear: “ignore the polls: it’ll be Romney, with 332″.
