Joseph Farah is thankful for many things, including things that he has argued in the past do not actually exist. The very first paragraph of his column telling his readers what he is thankful for is in pretty stark contrast to the paranoid conspiracy theories he pushes on a daily basis:
Thank You, Lord, for allowing me to live in the greatest country in the world – one where we as citizens are permitted to live in freedom, to speak our minds, to debate the great issues of the day openly and without fear, and, most of all, to worship You and to tell others about You and Your Gospel of saving grace and redemption.
Hmmm. This is the same guy who, a few months ago, was claiming that the government was spying on him using drones and that Christians were about to be “hunted down like dogs.” The same guy who, less than a week ago, was calling for secession because America had become a socialist nightmare. The same guy who says that America has become so decadent and disobedient to God that He is going to have to destroy us with natural disasters. Now he’s suddenly Lee Greenwood. Quite amusing.

The thing is, I don’t think it’s much of a double standard: I think that people like Farah have a pretty simple, straightforward, and internally coherent sets of standard: it can be summarized as: “Any part of the world which is not owned/ruled by people like me sucks and should cease to exist“.

The problem is that they will continue to defend the glory of America even when they are not in control . It is not that they vacillate between “America is awful” and “America is awesome” based on political makeup of our government. It is always about how the HATE HATE HATE certain elements of America, but how America is still great anyway (for now, until the things they HATE have their way). The hypocrisy/double standard is that they think that anyone else who does the same exact thing that they do, but criticize parts of society that they don’t personally oppose, actually are saying that America is awful. They, of course, are never saying that America is terrible because there are terrible parts of America. Libruls, however, obviously are, those America-haters.
