The Bryan Fischer Award is given to those who display a staggering lack of self-awareness and sense of irony, those who are continually accusing their opponents of having their own worst and most blatant traits. And this picture of Bill O’Reilly pretty much speaks for itself:

Hasn’t O’Reilly been given emetrius status and excluded from consideration any more?

As opposed to media operations that exist solely to promote a political party, regardless of what ideology it is following this week?

I do not see the problem. Just separate the two statements.
“THE FAR LEFT RUNNING WILD”
“There are entire media operations that exist soley to promote ideology. This is a bad situation that is getting worse.”
The second statement is true and the first is vague and meaningless.

Chalk up another “blinking at it trying to make it make sense”.

Well some conservatives seem to think that ‘reality’ is just another ideology. From this perspective, the statement is true.
As far as a bad situation getting worse? Also true, if your paycheck is signed by one of those ‘other’ ideologies.

Has anyone ever seen O’Reilly talk about the “near left” or “center left”?

Exhibit A: Fox News.

So totally shocked to see a thread full of Pinheads. You guys just don’t get it. You are not it-getters. Bill spreads the Truth(tm), and the Truth(tm) has no ideology. It just is.
Only those that veer from the Truth(tm) can be ideological. It’s a simple tautology.
He just goes where the Facts(tm) take him, bro.

I think there needs to be a retirement ceremony of some sort. Since Bile O’Liarly doesn’t wear a jersey, they’ll just have to hoist his necktie into the rafters. Extra points awarded if it’s still around his neck at the time.

The next slide needs to read:
“Shamelessly promoting ideology regardless of facts is hurting the Republican party.”
“Soon FOX news will have no credibility, even among the uneducated, and the liberal, fact based media will go uncontested.”
“We really need to stop doing this.”
Did they even notice Romney shooting himself in the foot in the debates by repeating the narrative they invented about when Obama called something a terrorist attack? I doubt it.

I always find it amusing that what Fox News calls “the far left” refers to positions that would be considered centre-right here in Canada.

30 years ago Obama would have fit in with the moderate, so-called “Rockefeller Republicans.” The religious right and libertarians chased those people out of the Republican party.

At this point, perhaps it should be the Fischer/O’Reilly award.

Speaking of paychecks, I wonder how much money O’Reilly is paid to utter his nonsense…

@Tony
I’m gonna guess “more per episode than I make in a year” and stop thinking about it before I get too angry.

We all know how Bill O’Reilly, who once said that “we ought to hang this guy” (“this guy” was George Soros) and actually invited Al Qaeda to attack Coit Towers in San Francisco, is opposed to people “running wild” (i.e., his headline is enough to warrant a B.F. Award nominee).

Well, I don’t know about that. I think O’R may be fully aware of what he’s doing. It’s a calculated move on Faux Noise’s part to do this. He and FN just don’t think (probably correctly) that his listeners will realize the projection of “accusing their opponents of having their own worst and most blatant traits”. Do you actually have to lack self-awareness, or can you just ignore your own hypocrisy to win the award?

I tend to agree with this. I think there were/are many who are completely aware that they have no argument, and so loudly proclaim/project their own worst traits onto the other guy in hopes that no one is paying much attention. As Rove said, when things look bad, attack, attack, attack.
It may have had some chance of working. But as the electorate keeps changing, that chance keeps shrinking. Next time if they want any chance, they will have to be more moderate…or convincingly pretend to be more moderate. But both of those options feel unlikely at this point.

I think #16 and #20 are onto something. Perhaps a completely new award is in order:
The Bill O’Reilly award, given to those who display a staggering lack of regard for their own intellectual integrity through use of blatant hypocrisy, those who are continually and knowingly accusing their opponents of having their own worst and most blatant traits, in attempts to project their own failings onto those opponents and away from themselves.

Hypothesis. The loudest voices in the wingnut choir are in fact bullshiters. It’s not that they disbelieve in their shtick they just don’t care if it is true or not so long as it keeps the ratings up and the money rolling in.
Now how would we test this?
