Here’s the video of JT Eberhard proposing to Michaelyn Everhart in front of a thousand people at Skepticon. Yeah, I know those public proposals can be hokey. You’ve all seen them at football games and such. And I’m a cynical prick. But this brought tears to my eyes at the time and did again when I watched the video. I knew it was happening, as did half the audience, but she didn’t. And the reaction is priceless. Congratulations, JT and Michaelyn. And thanks, JT, for letting us all be a part of it.

I hope (as expressed earlier) that they hyphenate the name of any offspring.

JT wants to combine it to make it Everhard. Viagra Everhard does have a nice ring to it. Sounds like the villain from a porn parody of James Bond.

That was sooooo beautiful. :) I guess I missed some awesome events when I missed Skepticon. Fri I had to work and then Sat and Sun we had a family emergency to deal with, so I didn’t get to go like I had hoped.

My problem with public proposals isn’t that they’re hokey, it’s that they put extra pressure on the proposee to accept, so as not to humiliate the proposer. Of course, I hope no one ever formally proposes if they don’t already know what the answer will be. But still.

I’m a WWJTD fan, and I admit that I teared up a little watching the video on JT’s site. I wish them well, and all the happiness, etc. But you have to admit it would have been killer if she had stood up, paused and looked at him, and screamed, “Who are you, and where did you get all those pictures of me?,” just before she went up and accepted.
